The goal of our "Song Challenges" is to write songs/lyrics on demand within set parameters. We don't critique each other's songs in this thread (but you can say you like someone's song if you want to.) Please post your original works. If you have already written a song/lyric that fits within the parameters, please feel free to post it.
The theme of this challenge centers around gratitude. It could be about Thanksgiving or gratitude of any kind. However, it could also be the opposite - a tongue in cheek "Thanks a lot" sort of thing, No thanks. etc. Please make sure the song/lyrics contains the expression of gratitude (or the opposite) in the chorus or repeating line of the verse.
Have fun!

I saw this challenge and decided to rework this one. Thank you Jean for keeping these challenges going!
"Peace Is On Me Tonight" (c) 2011 by Dave Gill
Here's to the family holed up in a shelter and to the soldier back from war who can no longer drive Here's to the lovers who have argued for hours but somehow still manage to keep love alive I know that it may seem just as bad as it can be But that don't mean we give up the fight so just for a moment Let's raise up our glasses This round - is on me - tonight
Let's make a toast to all that we can do and all that we're hopin' to be Forget for a moment our ongoing battles This round of Peace is on me
Here's to the white and the blue collared workers who put in more hours than there are in a day And here's one for all who give their life to help others and the ones who believe in the power to pray It's hard sometimes to keep from doin' the wrong thing to work from the dark to the light So pause for a moment let's all raise our glasses This round - is on me - tonight
Let's make a toast to all that we can do and all that we're hopin' to be Forget for a moment our ongoing battles This round of Peace is on me
<interlude>
Here's to our families wherever they may be We salute our Armed Forces all over the world and cheers to the police and the fire department and a special one for all of the bar-hoppin girls Let's all remember we're in this together Stop fussin' and do what is right Here we're all equal So raise up your glasses This round - is on me - tonight
Let's make a toast to all that we can do and all that we're hopin' to be Forget for a moment our ongoing battles This round of Peace is on me
This round of Peace is on me
Peace,
Dave

Hi Jean,
Been gone a while and haven't written since the 50/90, other than last night's disapointment song, and I won't put it on the boards, gotta live with the peoples decision and get on with life.
So "Thank You"!!.... for sparkin' an idea and helpin' to get me out of the dumps!
Thanks But No Thanks
(c) 2012 Geneva Griffin
Verse 1 I was shocked to hear your voice, There was a time I'd been overjoyed, Now to my surprise I couldn't shed a tear.. You were mine and I was yours, You've left the one you left me for, You kept me cryin'..lyin' in wait for years..
Chorus So Thanks but No Thanks, You had your chance.. those years in the past.. Thanks but No Thanks, Cause today I'm thankful that.. love didn't last.. My wounds have healed, in those arms of time.... But if I look real hard, my scars are brought to light.. So Thanks but No Thanks..
Verse 2 Sorry for what you done to me, Could we catch up over coffee, And maybe one day laugh over old times.. Ya hurt the one you loved back then, But hope one day to get me back again, Funny I prayed.. you'd be back in my life..
Chorus But Thanks but No Thanks, You had your chance.. those years in the past.. Thanks but No Thanks, Cause today I'm thankful that.. love didn't last.. My wounds have healed, in those arms of time.... And when I look real hard, my scars are brought to light.. So Thanks but No Thanks..
Bridge I said Thanks for your concern, I appreciate your call, If I need moral support, Or anything at all, But then again.. when I stop and think.... ..Thanks but No Thanks..
Chorus Ya Thanks but No Thanks, You had your chance.. those years in the past.. Thanks but No Thanks, Cause today I'm thankful that.. love didn't last.. My wounds have healed, in those arms of time.... But if I look real hard, my scars are brought to light.. So Thanks but No Thanks..

Hi Jean, I'm thankful for the challenge and for your time and effort in posting them for us. This one's from the heart. Best, Lynn "I Am Thankful" (c)2012 Lynn OrloffHave I ever told you Jesus though at times my lips complain That I’m thankful for the sunshine, even thankful for the rain That I’m thankful for the blessings, and though trials sometimes come You are there to hold my hand and give me grace through everyone Have I told you lately Jesus though at times I lose my way That I’m thankful beyond measure that you love me every day That you shine your light so brightly I can’t help but see you there And you answer in your own way, every humble pleading prayer I am thankful, I am thankful, I am thankful precious Jesus I am thankful, I am thankful, I am thankful precious LordDid I tell you precious Jesus when there’s days I feel confused Disappointed and discouraged I can always look to you And I know that in my searching I don’t have to look too far You are faithful, and you’re waiting, I just look and there you are Have I ever told you Jesus when the storms of life prevail I am thankful for the shelter that you render without fail How you calm me and remind me that this all shall come to pass In my weakness I am strengthened by your words that light my path I am thankful, I am thankful, I am thankful precious Jesus I am thankful, I am thankful, yes I'm thankful precious LordI am thankful, I am thankful, I am thankful precious Jesus I am thankful, I am thankful, oh so thankful precious Lord

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMOs4QD66A8Thank you my friend Thank you again For all that you do For just being you My gratitude will never end You give your time Unselfishly Mountains to climb You carry me When rivers run deep When the road has stones You encourage me I’m not alone Thank you my friend Thank you again For all that you do For just being you My gratitude will never end When shadows fall And hide the light When trouble calls You make things right If dreaming is gone And my world is gray You help me go on You show the way Thank you my friend Thank you again For all that you do For just being you My gratitude will never end

saw this section only recently and thought I'd have a go, cheers.
Thanks But No Thanks.
Took a long lost year And an ocean of beer To get over you, My will to survive Was barely alive But I pulled through, Now you’re flashing bedroom eyes Saying you apologise For leaving me, Well thanks for the information But I’ve no inclination To repeat history.
chorus I cried for you In the gutters and drunk tanks, But I got used to Being sober without you So thanks but no thanks.
It feels like yesterday I begged you to stay On trembling knees, But you shook your head At every word I said And threw down your keys, You never once looked round As you scurried down The garden path, No words can ever describe How I hurt inside But now I just laugh.
chorus I cried for you In the gutters and drunk tanks, But I got used to Being sober without you So thanks but no thanks.
bridge So you left the man you ran to And your heart is on the line But I can't take another hangover With you on my mind.
chorus Yeah I cried for you In the gutters and drunk tanks But I got used to Being sober without you So thanks but no thanks.
