This song is all mine, lyric, melody, chording, playing, singing. I can't always get tracks for my songs. I am still new with the guitar, please take that into consideration. This song is MEANT to be nostalgic, to be a memory, so I already know that "records" dates it, I will not be changing that, I am sorry, it is what I intended it to be subject wise... I try not to torture everyone with songs I don't have good music to, but this went over well on Facebook, so I will give it a try. SPINNING RECORDS IN YOUR ROOM on SoundClick Spinning Records in Your Room by Tammy © 2012 At your home in your room all alone we put the record player on our song's about forever whenever we're together harmony's wrapped in our arms (chorus) Baby, Don't let this end too soon start up another tune set that needle down spin that record round and round turn up that forty-five I want to listen by your side I'm falling in love with you spinning records in your room A record starts with the beat of our hearts our bodies start to move the rhythms are the dance of our teenage romance the night won't be ending soon (chorus) Baby, Don't let this end too soon start up another tune set that needle down spin that record round and round turn up that forty-five I want to listen by your side I'm falling in love with you spinning records in your room (bridge) My mind always comes back to this each time our record's needle skips will our song last for long (chorus) Baby, Don't let this end too soon start up another tune set that needle down spin that record round and round turn up that forty-five I want to listen by your side I'm falling in love with you spinning records in your room

Okay Tammy,
That sure gave me a feeling , and brought back some great memories, like parking down by the river and singing Johnny Mathis songs to my date. Thanks Tammy.

Wow, I read the lyrics first and for some reason heard a snappy tune in my head. After listening, I was surprised to hear a ballad.....I like how it moves chordally and the hook is so close I can taste it, a trim and a tweak ........pow.....a little piece of gold. This really has the potential to take off.....nicely done.
By the way, I don't personally think the term "record" is outdated.....45?, yes......heh.....two cents.

Seems like you hit your mark setting it back in time Tammy. And for some...It's still vinyl. Good luck on it and keep playing and writing.

Hi Tammy,
This has a nice feel to it. It's a good story and I think easily relatable. I notice in the last line of V2, "the night won't be ending soon" might compete with the chorus line "don't let this end too soon".
Good work learning the guitar!

Tammy, It's good that songs are still written for us oldtimers. Yours takes me back to those days. The lyrics are great. Vic

Tam...like I said in my email...loved the verse chording and melody and the hook but that forced chord going into the chorus has got to go. You have to get away from that. It's becoming a not-so-pleasant signature for you. Even the bridge seems familiar.
Thought the chorus could have used a minor or 2 for tension...it would have accented the watlzy feel of this, which I do like.

Charles,
Thank you for giving this a listen.
What is it about the hook? I am not asking for you to write it out or for an example, but if you can elaborate...is it too long, not catchy, can you clarify?
Do appreciate your time and comments!

I only meant that it feels as though something is amiss with the hook, without working on it myself....I wouldn't know what it was.It just feels like a song about to take great shape melodically.....I know, not helping.

Hi Tammmy,
This is a way cool approach to teenage love, but I think it would be more effective if, in the bridge, you follow through with the first line. Right now, you're keeping it in the present tense, like it's happening now and that's not what you're trying to say, and it needs to be stronger.
Melodically, the bridge could use more work as well. It's a little anti-climactic. There's no build up.
I love the chorus, very well written lyrically, giving the sense of nostalgia that you intended.
Great song idea and keep up the guitar practice. It beats waiting around for someone to do it for you, especially when all you need is something simple for a critique post like this.

Wow, I am so impressed and psyched that you have really taken your playing and recording to heights I bet you never even imagined. Of course, I do miss those early tunes of you just singing in your shower (!) -- ha, ha. I hope you are proud of yourself also, because you have accomplished a great, great deal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good and brings back memories. My favorite line was about the needle skipping. There are lots of old songs that I anticipate the skip that was always in a certain spot.If it's not there, I'm disappointed.

Nat,
I understand this is a chording flaw, but why is it wrong if that chord is in the key in the previous key and the key of the next key?? it is a common/crossover chord? I don't know, it feels like a nice stepping stone, that is why I do it, but you know how I hate to dissappoint you...i'm conflicted...

Wow, I like this. I see what Mac C is saying here, you are one tweak away from this song simply taking off. It is one of my favs of yours, Tams. Nice job. mike

Tammy, as always, your lovely voice does it for me! I love this song, it's so relatable and the sentiment just catches everyone, but I'd love to see an upbeat version of it (honestly, I'd love for my all-female band to cover it! Seriously!!!) I could see it in a movie or something! Good one!

Tammy,
You write some childrens songs and I thought this was another one of those from the title. Know why? When I was in grade school I spun some 45's on an old small box that had a record player in it. I loved that thing!!!
Of course this would have to be an adult song as my kids would certainly not relate to records!
I really like how you sing this. Lots of subtle feeling and warmth. strong chorus imo.
Good job.

Wow. That chorus is going to stick with me quite a while. Magical. And what a voice you have! Beautiful. If I had to offer a suggestion for possible improvement, I'm thinking the verses and chorus could work together a bit better melodically. If I were to listen to them independently, I wouldn't necessarily think they were from the same song (lyrics notwithstanding). But I like them both individually! Especially the chorus!! However, this is something a couple more listens would likely cure. And don't mind if I do! Excellent tune!

Hi Tammy,
Hey just looking at the lyrics I thought it was going to be more uptempo--but when the ballad started--well you sold it really well, lol. man the whole new generation doesn't know what they are missing with their ipods. The old pop and crack of the vinyl and the skipping as you pointed out--seems like only yesterday. You captured a very nostalgic moment in many of us old timers earlier lives--great job. Take care, Roger

Hi Tams......lovely song....I particularly loved the fall into the chorus...and your playing is getting better and better.
How did it feel for you? I remember, recording myself with two cassette decks turned on simultaneously, and just marveling at myself!!! It's about as much fun as anyone can have when they are by themselves. Sounds wonderful, and put a big smile on my face. Love it!!! -Tom

Tammy Technically it's not wrong but you've done it in a few songs now where I expect it to go to that chord and voila! it's there. With this type of tune, maybe a 1 line pre, 2 chords, would have been better. Like a minor 7th and another chord. It just feels forced Tam...even the bridge is a bit predictable and bridges need to really elevate the song or they drag it down. You'll get there. Zeek

Roger,
Yes, it was intended to be a faster song, but the emotional part of it brought me to that melody and I believe there are many who still associate good memories to records, I'm glad you could see/hear that! Thanks for giving it a listen!

Neat idea for a song Tammy. I'd like hearing this song with a dominate yet tender piano track with acoustic picking support, a little bass to warm it up, very little if any percussion. This would also allow your voice to be showcased better. Nice write, really cool subject.
Experiment with the last line of the bridge a bit by either cutting off the word "long" a little sooner, with just three syllables ( "lo----o--ong." ) If you feel you need four, then hold the last with more of a fade and let the music take over there. Just some 1st impression ideas to consider, the song has potential. Nice job, nice write.
