She was 17, and I was in the army She said she loved me the first time she saw me She was so afraid that I would travel far I was being paid to fight another man's war
She said, I'll Be Waiting when you get home, baby Here's another letter to see you through I'll keep writing, I don't mean maybe I'll Be Waiting for you
I went overseas, and she went back to school I thought that she'd forget and take me for a fool I misunderstood the things she felt inside Our love was something good, we had nothing to hide
She said, I'll be waiting when you get home, baby Here's another letter to see you through I'll keep writing, I don't mean maybe And I'll Be Waiting for you
The years went by She said she'd always be mine Always be mine
Now she's 21, and I'm back home again We're gonna live our lives the way it should've been We're gonna live and learn even though it's not the same We're gonna have our turn to play another man's game
I'll Be Waiting when you get home, baby Here's another letter to see you through I'll keep writing, I don't mean maybe I'll Be Waiting for you

I like the chorus. I almost feel that the 3rd verse tells too much if that makes any sense I want the bridge to finish it and turn back to the chorus of Ill be waiting on you baby.
Just my opinion.

Just my opinion. Thanks. I could easily change it. I wrote this about my girl friend when I was in the Army. She was not at all like the girl in this song. She didn't wait.

G'Mornin Bro Jimmy!
I like that Singer ends up with The Girl, at Song's End.
I'll recommend ya Fast-Forwards & maybe have Singer reflectin'-back How It Was, while surrounded by maybe 2-3 Kids. At Song's End.
Also recommend ya come up with Newer Rhyme than Maybe/Baby...it's too 1950's, JMO.
Good Luck with it, Amigo! Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan
PS: I actually sent a gal a "Dear-John" from 'Nam...she was in too-big-a-hurry to get Married..heh!

Hi Jim: This song touched me. My husband received about two hundred letters from me. I think I got five. I'm glad the guy gets the girl in the end.
