Ahhhh....childhood memories!
The Queen's Head
When I was a kid I watched a show King's wife lost her head Which rolled by then slowed
The camera zoomed in Did I see her eyes? I ran to my room But to my great surprise
CHORUS The queen's head Left for dead Followed me there Her steady stare Beneath that sheath Made me scared In my young eyes The queen's head Had never died
Old Henry the Eighth Loved Anne Boleyn Until he saw red And sent her head rollin'
That blindfold she wore Seemed wet with tears Guess that's how I saw All of Anne Boleyn's fears
CHORUS (w/ changes) The queen's head Left for dead Followed me there Her steady stare Beneath that sheath Made me scared Still in my eyes The queen's head Has never died
(c) 2012, Lisa Gundling
P.S. I posted this ten minutes or so ago but then made some changes...

Hi Lisa A very unusual one this time.Thought it was a lyric about a UK pub when I saw the title lol I mentioned to someone today that I'm sick of hearing about the Queen(it's her Diamond Anniversary, yawn) and it's going toe to toe with the Olympic Torch for press coverage. I was most amused as some Queens say(not me I'm married)) by the Boleyn/rollin rhyme. I like all things King Henry V111 even though he was a an evil swine. Travis

You had a nightmare, right,Lisa ? Actually, I like far out stuff At a couple read throughs, it looks pretty good--The C is quite long compared to the verses. Possibly cut a line or two out of it Outside of that, possibly a one line outro-- Long Live the Queen Write on

I really like this Lisa...a bit off the wall but a universal theme...how small kids are influenced by these scenes. Who cannot relate to gruesome?? I'm actually just reading a book about the Tudor dynasty. Just finished ole Henry's part in things. He really was a wretched creature, and many many people were executed in his reign...many for their wealth (monks and abbots of monasteries), while the rest were killed because of his almost impossible to adhere to laws created because he needed to be the absolute ruler. ANY deviation from his (well Cromwell and Cranmer's) policies was deemed treasonous, any disagreement was punished by death. Even Cromwell was beheaded after years of service, while Cranmer was burned by Mary, his daughter. Not a good time to be an independent thinker
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Hey Travis,
I'm intrigued by Henry VIII also! I read the Margaret George biography/historical fiction account of him at one point....I came away with a whole new understanding of his complexity!
Regarding the Boleyn/rollin' rhyme -- hee hee. I liked that too, though I hope it really does work! Originally, I had "bowling" and I had the queen's head crashing into my thoughts....but I thought that went TOO far. After all, I have already pushed the limits here! LOL!

Hi Wy,
Actually, I wish it had been a nightmare! After seeing her head roll on the show, I actually ran into my room, then went to use the bathroom and flushed the toilet. I thought that the queen's head was coming out of the toilet, chasing me, and I fled from the bathroom. For years after that, I would flush the toilet and run! When I'm in a particularly scary, deserted bathroom, I still imagine the queen's head...
(Uh, okay, I'm late for my therapy session, so I've gotta run!) When I return, I'll take a look at the maybe-too-long chorus, and think about your funny tagline too!
Thanks for stopping by! Lisa

I thought that you had written AFTER Wy, but realized that I had the order wrong!
Thank you for the cute and creepy -- I'll take that as a compliment from a top-one-percenter mensa kind of guy!

Hi John,
I've no doubt that you like off-the-wall -- lol!
Interesting stuff about Henry the VIII, and your conclusion about it not being a good time to live for independent thinkers! Something tells me that you would NOT have fared too well during his reign!
Thanks for your always-interesting visit!

Hi Lisa,
I'm gonna have nightmares! Definitely a unique idea, well written. Out of curiosity, do you have a type of music that you imagine with it?
Good write!

Hi Jason,
Oh no -- don't let the queen head haunt you too -- she never goes away! I don't have music in mind...I sat down to write something else and all of a sudden I found myself writing about the queen's head.
Thanks for your nice visit!

Hey Mackie,
What a perfect quote for this topic! And yes, that subconscious world can be so vivid, and in children especially, it's SO very much alive! Thank you for your thoughtful and interesting insights on this topic!

Thanks for the heads up on this one. Love the horror captured from the childhood recollections. Divorce was a wee bit more sadistic back then. She took a cut in her benefits in a big way, and he married another poor soul doomed to the ax. Nicely done. ~~~MFB III

Hi Calvin -- LOL -- I saw your funny throne song, but I haven't had a chance to comment on anything the past few days! Thank you very much for the great suggestion -- it does read better that way and it will definitely go into the rewrite! -- Lisa

The Ray Harryhausen version of 'Clash of Titans' came out when I was a boy. I remember being freaked out afterward by Medusa. When I would try to sleep, I would see her severed head and glowing eyes staring back at me. I'd jump out of bed and run into my parents' room. Your song made me think of that.

Nice & Spoo-Kay...heh! (I've always wondered just How Long those severed heads could still SEE what was goin'-on afterwards...must really be as Terrifying a Visual as anything-Imaginable.)
Once ya understand the Plumbing-Involved in a toilet, you can forget Your Fears...heh...(too-small an opening for any Heads to pop-up!)
Thanks for inspiring Our Co- on the next Terrifying Kid's Memory Number...should be ready to post tomorrow!
Good Luck with this one...Was certainly Inspirational, eh? ;-)>

Hi Aaron,
Hey -- when we wrote "Rogue's Song," you didn't mention that Medusa was bringing up childhood terrors! Thanks for sharing your creepy story -- makes me feel better about the normalcy (or lack thereof) of mine!

Hi Stan,
The queen's head was more like a movie image, so toilet plumbing knowledge didn't help a bit! Now, I DID once fall into a toilet when I was a child (in the Florida Keys, now that I think about it!) and couldn't get myself out. But, well, that's reserved for another song!
I can't say that I'm glad this song inspired our "Under the Bed" co-write, because I don't really like to feel responsible for making others remember their childhood fears, but, well....okay, I'm glad! Laughing....
Thanks for your visit and for our latest lyric! I'll be visiting that next!

Hi BlackWearsBlue,
I'm happy to hear that this caught your eye!
It is a very real memory and the fear lasted for years! Even today, if I'm not careful, the sound of a flushing toilet will evoke those feelings...!
Thank you for stopping by, and nice to meet you!

I'm tempted to call this cute, Lisa, but given the subject, that doesn't seem apt. Whatever, it is really original and well-written, for sure.

Hey Travis,
I just Googled and found listings for The Queen's Head pub! I didn't know!
Also, I haven't heard from Aaron about any music for this, but I'm sure that the day it strikes his fancy to write about a severed queen's head haunting a kid...he'll be right on it! lol!
