Glad I could contribute to making you famous, John. Wow! Suitably discordant and definitely a convincing warning of an impending disaster: hence, truly an "alarum". Donna Note: "Alarum": a loud, frantic warning, especially a call to arms; a warning of impending danger, usually war.

In the classical field, often one only becomes famous during postmortem. So I think I'll wait on that. Thanks again for the title. It works great. Best, John

Hey John,
Ahhhhh..... man, I just don't know what to say. Breathless.
I'd analyse, but to do so would spoil the whole thing.
Magic !
cheers, niteshift
PS - if you ever put up crap like you did a few weeks ago, I will indeed, get in my row boat and slap you with that wet fish.

Thanks Nite. Yeah, I'd analyze too but that would make me a hypocriter. However if I were to analyze, I'd say that basically it's an etude with a recurring theme, variations there of, and episodes to fill the empty spots.. I'll do my best to hide the crap from you Nite. Best, John

John--
THIS ONE HAS YOUR CLASSIC TOUCH--PEOPLE ARE FRANTICALLY RUNNING TO AND FRO--MAYBE IT COULD USE SOME VERY LIGHT SOUND EFFECTS--A WHISTLE AND/OR A BASS DRUM--BUT IT SOUNDS GREAT WITHOUT ANYTHING BUT PIANO!
FINE WORK MY FRIEND!

The title is perfect, Donna deserves her kudos.
I wish you could do a video of your hands on the keyboard of your piano, I would love to watch you play.
You have captured the frantic and heart stopping rush of people feeling alarmed.

Love it John,
I see you couldn't stay away!
What piano are you using these days. I was completely convinced except for a couple of held out chords (IE too perfect). I don't think anyone will care...
Anyway. Great little tune.
Peace,
Ian

Ian Thanks Ian! Yeah, my brother reminded me why I'm composing and recording in the first place. It's not for the money. And hopefully any unauthorized licensing will at least find an appreciative audience. I'm using the Ivory Italian Grand. Laying it down dry and adding a pinch of Logic Pro's platinum reverb. That's all the processing I do. I consider this genre to be contemporary classical. I just signed 30 similar piano solos to Editors Choice Music. Hopefully they'll find an attentive audience. Music needs three essential elements; composing, performing, and a listening audience. Money is just the ketchup on the burger. Anyway, that’s why I’ve decided not to worry about the unethical entrepreneurs. Best, John

Thank you Wy. Donna came up with a perfect title for this. "Et tu Etude" - Clever. Maybe I'll steal it sometime. Oh wait... do to my high ethical standards, I'll have to get permission from you first. Best, John

It'll be all right for you to steal et tu---I already started a lyric from the battle I heard in your post--not progressing too well though--it needs a princess-all ancient stories should have a princess--like-- Once upon a time in a faraway land Lived a beautiful princess Now this land was a very soggy land So everybody wore wooden shoes However the shoes were all pointy toed As was the custom in the land But the princess's feet were not pointy at all Do you think this lyric will get me in trouble John ?

It's amazing to see what one word can inspire!
Sounds great...enjoyed it!

Mike Thanks Michael! Enigmatic? Had to look-up all the meanings. I'm doing quite a bit of composing in triple meter lately. Though as I'm sure you know, 6/8 time is suppose to be felt in 2's. Best, John

Best, John I think you resisted, but in every 6/8 piece of mine, there is invariably one spot, at least, where I paradiddle against the beat--accenting every other eighth note, giving a bar of music 3 beats, instead of two. In fact, yes, yesterday, I had 3 two syllable words, all with accents on the first syllable, and the song was 6/8...I stared at that sucker for a half an hour, 'til it became obvious to paradiddle, right there... Mike

Mike Meter and rhythm can certainly be challenging Michael. I try not to think about it too much. Polyrhythm used to try me crazy, i.e., 3 against 2, 7 against 4, etc. Chopin had a lot of polyrhythms in his work. He would have 17 against 4, etc... When I wanted to be exact, I'd find a common denominator when possible. If there were 4 against 3 I'd break it up in 12's. Paradiddle? Haven't heard that term in 40 years. Best, John
