Had to really dig for this one and retype it, lost a lot of my stuff...most maybe crap...but it's my crap...anyway here's one about my grandfather going hunting on a saturday nite...thanks glyn
Pa hollered, Let’s go git them coons He’d load them dogs in that ole’ blue trailer I’d jump up, grab the hats with the carbide lights The guns and the ole’ coon squawler
Here we’e go to that dusky creek bank Let the dogs loose and away they’d run Up and down the creek bank and across the water We’d hunt till the morning sun
Pa’s famous blue tick hounds And Big John Mack’s walker breed Running and yapping through the woods With those carbide lights on our heads
To lead us through the trails Pa holler, Katie get that coon Come on Blue get em’ treed Me in back blowing on that coon squawler
Nothing like the smell of the woods With that ole’ dusky creek To get my innards a spinning And my adrenalin a flowing
You could hear those dogs way up ahead Got one flushed out, got em’ a running That coon will run till he jumps a tree And try and hide way up top
Dogs will circle that tree Do their best to climb it Ain’t no way that coon’s Gonna come down
Now don’t shoot that coon Catch em’, later we’ll let em’ go So’s we can hunt them again On another Saturday nite
Pa’s shine his light on that coon sitting As high in that tree he could get He’s says, guinea shimmy on up that tree And shake that ole’ coon on down
Up I’d go like a circus act Swinging from limb to limb I’d get close enough so’s that Coon couldn’t jump on my head
Once we had to cut that tree down And it fell on pa’s favorite dog Katie Pa didn’t cry, but you could tell Inside he was a dying
He loved those dogs more than anything I think at times even more than ma This was the happiest I’d seen him Running his dogs late on a Saturday nite
After pa died, I dreamed one nite I could see pa and his dogs Treeing coons in the woods Running along that ole’ creek bank
They’d always have a contest Split off in 2 groups to see who could Catch the most coons The winner rubbed the losers nose with the coon tails
Yeah, I love the sound of those dogs a yapping Way up a head of us, deep in the woods Running those coons Hunting On A Saturday Nite

Glyn, you should write a book. I enjoyed that. Vic

Good story Glyn. I'm glad they didn't kill the coons. But remember that racoons do tend to get rabies.

If it is a short story, why is it written as if it is a song lyric?

Was trying to make it a song lyric but it's too long, so I'm making it a short story...will have to make it into a story form, been really sick and haven't been able to really work on it..but will get to it...thanks
