What are your proudest single lines or couplets? "I just wanna be there when the sh!t hits the fan Catch it all in a bucket, and use what I can."Kinda a gross image, I know. But for a song about being a "tortured artist", I think that it's pretty appropriate. From this song: "Tortured Artist"" See? I may have another one or two to post (not as gross, I'm sure), but for now I think that image will hold you over!

I'm not the girl over there; Glamor clothes and diamonds in her hair. (The Girl Inside Me - Justice)
If I had wings I would be an angel. If you were true I could imagine. (Love Is a Lie - Justice)
It feels like we're dancing to the edge of the world; One damaged man; an unacceptable girl. (No In Between - Megan Cunningham)
The road to my hell is paved with your kisses. Sweet whispered words, sound just like screams. (No In Between - Megan Cunningham)
He breaks hearts like window panes And counts those hearts like drops of rain. (Basic Black - Bill Creel)
She lived in LA County. He came from Carolina. What they both wanted the most Was a love from coast to coast. (Coast To Coast - William Ray)

Uh. Well. I really like this line from Master of the Moot Point. "I'm the... Master of the moot point Roll up another joint Puffing, puffing, passing You can stick with me, kid And when you're all crossfaded You can look my way and Thank me for the good times And let me turn out the lights." Okay. It's more than a line. But I still really like it.

She bit me in some places you don’t need to know Like Belsize Park and Walthamstow Piranha Lover - Most of the lyrics for this song were written by my collaborator Len, but this particular couplet is all mine Todd, on a separate note and relating to one of your other threads this was recorded in a single take, one mic for the vocal and one for the guitar.

From I've Seen Better Days
As I thumb my way south, some think I'm crazy, For following you, and searching the maze in, The cities I've seen,
From Warmed My Soul
You slid away in the dead of night, Left a hole where love had been, I keep on walking to fill my empty mind, Guided by our old routine

Preachers say "come on now give me your dollars. You'll get to heaven somehow." Farmers experimenting with all kinds of medecine. We're gonna have supercow. And the world keeps on changing, cause no one's refraining from change.

From "Song for Spike":
Life has tested me Love really messed with me but I learned - I'm fine on my own
Time kept track of me When fate turned it's back on me and taught me how much I'd grown
*************************************** From "Winter Change":
I can feel the winter coming it's blowing across my mind it's falling down the mountains I see through the twisted pines
I can see the white flakes falling right before my eyes colorless confusion in the smoke-like colored skies

I wrote this one just about 2 hours ago. I suppose there's a song in there somewhere.
I’ve been involved in romantic entanglements And I’ve seen what they can do If you want my advice Put your heart on ice And keep your connections few

"Lines you're GLAD that you wrote"
All of mine. Maybe some more than others, but to slowly, over time, discover than one is indeed gifted, is endlessly rewarding. And to build upon one's ability over time is nothing short of a blessing.

I like that line!

my favorite is actually a chorus
(from "up front and honest") "since we're being right up front and honest There's something its better if you knew even with all your scars and baggage I am still in love with you"
for a single line I like (from "Disappear") "slip away like a two length lead, in Kentucky air"
for a couplet (from "Shayla, wont you bring me a beer) "I don't really need it, what can I say I just love to watch you walk away"
to be completely honest, what I'm working on is normally my favorite.

"She was the prima ballerina at the maid of honor ball, She ended up contaminated by urban blight and sprawl."
I like this line but never play the song, Rust Belt Baby, the rest sucks. Its one of those songs I thought were great when penned, but upon reflection, will never see the light of day.

3 old songs off the top of my head.... "Raising glasses to touchdown passes All the games we watch today, we used to play We still have curfews called working man blues So don't try to hard to act your age, It can wait" "I made a play without rehearsal Strong words can be so hurtful I never seem to get my point across" "I'm like Brooklyn where the subway screeches Roof top vocals with a hip hop beat Everyone say bring back the day When the Dodgers used to play Come home from LA Mike Caro

I've penned a fair-share of Gospelly-Ones..(often-comedic, since I think there's NO Religion that's without its Comedic Aspects)& Here's The Chorus to my All-Time Favorite:
I didn't ask to be sent here, Brother I don't remember what WAS my Crime But I'm not Askin' for an Early-Release In Fact, I'm a-HOPIN' for a Little More Time--
(The Organ Music & Hand-Clappin' makes it SOAR...heh-heh!)
&..it's the Finale..on my "Songs Somebody ELSE Coulda Prolly Sung BETTER" CD...at CDBaby.com...prolly the Best of all 7 I've got there.
Thanks for the Opportunity to Plug It a wee-bit...I'm outta Beer Money again!
Best Wishes & Big Hugs, Stan

And though I know you might be with someone else I swear I hear a catch in your voice As it starts to break But that might be fake For my own sweet sake It’ll be a cold day in hell Baby Before I make the same mistake Again
Someday Mike Dunbar and I will finish this one

"You're possesive, and obsessive, and sometimes dowright opressive, when you ask me if I've been drinkin', where I've been and what I'm thinkin'. You always tell me, I'm putting you through hell...Ah but now honey, that goes for me as well.

I had to read that twice. I almost thought you wrote:
I stole a heartbeat from the story of your life Another chapter The one about your wife
That would be an interesting song....

Not sure. Maybe Iggy has a better grasp on some of my lyrics. Most are too personal to me to know if I am glad I wrote them, as to how others take them,,,or not. I am specifically a Music/Melody guy.

Some great lines guys... I sometimes start to go through my 2000+ odd songs but get so caught up with nostalgia I rarely get very far and my mind wanders.
Someday I'll dig something out and post it. It's been nearly 16 years of JPF and I have never posted a song. Perhaps the time has come on of these days. I also have about 400+ additional music only songs and probably that many unused lyrics.

I just wrote one for Jean's challenge, and the song ended up with the singer, a guy who tie-dyes shirts accidentally drinking lye and dying. Then, in heaven, he's sitting at a bar with Jackie Gleason bar-tending, and Gleason has an awful "sh*t happens" tie-dye on, and the singer says "hey, I'll make you one that's more... you..." and so, the bridge is ONE line: God loves a poor soul--I love that, cuz it's recent, I suppose, but also because it was an almost impossible, maze-like route, that led to that line... Sometimes, you may have to have a bunch of mundane or routine lines/stuff/whatever, just to lead you to that tiny epiphany. A little Gleason as "the Poor Soul" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcLJFVlzYyw*******************************************************

Im not real big on patting myself on the back for lines Ive written, here or some lines I wrote that I thought were to poetic to be in a song, but now Im ok with.
More Than Just The Habit: "The beam of a corner street lamp lights the litter and despair" "He feels just like a hostage who's ransom wont get paid"
The Lords Final Call: "Then the devil he burst in and said sinning was okay, dont you know he was trying to lead me astray"
When I make it Home: "Young Private James Davis sat writing his love,The air all around laced with oders of war".
Cheers Paul

Hi, I try to write all my lines to be good to me---others will decide which are witty, memorable..... I know it does not always work, but I try to a every line as if it were my last.
