On Feb.14, 1990 she walked into the cabinet shop where me and my little brother worked. We had been vying for her affection. I was sure I had no chance. She walked in wearing a scarlet red string type blouse and looked stunning. She was carryin an envelope (valentine card) with her. She could have gone left to where my brothers work station was, or right-to me. She turned right. We were married for ten years and I still miss her. I wrote this in Feb.2001. I recently re-recorded it. If you listen closely you can hear my dog shake her head, flapping her ears ! I never was able to remove it, so I kept it there for posterity. I love you Christina and I always will. I hope your happy. Please enjoy Next To You and God Bless you all !! Next To You © Darrell Lee (Cowart) 2001 V1 Girl You've really got my attention now Everything is so damn clear.....And I'm thinking that You could use, a little comfort now You didn't get much these last ten years And I can't seem to face my reality I just can't believe your really gone And I can't believe I brought this down on me How much longer can the pain go on V2 What if I told you, I didn't have a prayer To beg forgiveness for what I've been...Would you take my hand and.. And help me out Girl, Just one more time And pray for the healin' to begin Cause then I know you'd find your reality And soar with the eagles baby some day Dont you worry if the world's not there to see Cause it dont matter, anyway chorus Thinkin' 'bout the day you brought me a Valentine Dreamin' on the day we said "I do" Wishin' that I had the chance, at one more day What I'd give to be next to you What I'd give to be next to you break V3 Now take that old guitar, That you loved so much And fill the air with a beautiful sound...I like the way you sing it.. Write some music, Give it your sweet touch (dog shakes head) And I hope salvation will abound Now I know I'll pay the price for the things I've done And get down on my bended knees But it you find some day that your heart is on the run It's O.K. to run home to me Yea it's O.K. to run home to me......oh chorus/end I'm thinkin' 'bout the day you brought me a Valentine Dreamin' on the day we said "I do" Wishin' that I had the chance, at one more day What I'd give to be next to you What I'd give to be next to you What I'd give to be next to you.....oh What I'd give to be next to you......... fade/end http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10281071

Nice singing and playing there, Darrell! And a convincing delivery too - you're really wearing your heart on your sleeve in this one. Man, I can feel your pain. LOL - I can see your dog in my mind's eye - yeah, leave that in there. Scott

Hey Darrell,
Really pretty tune and solid lyric writing. I like the vocal phrasing. I hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi Darrell, This is so personal I don't dare critique it. I'm sure it's exactly like it's meant to be! I'm very sorry about your wife for whatever reason she’s gone it's obvious you're still in love with her. I think your vocal is great here, it's a lovely song. Dottie

Darrell,
Nice song, and your voice has a nice quality about it. Very listenable. A hard subject to sing about though.
And I hope the dog gets royalties!

Darrel, Your song is very sweet and moving. I cannot imagine the pain of your loss. Your lyrics kinda say it all from your heart. This is a good thing. Your verses are excellent but IMO you do need a break from the same melody carrying on into the chorus. Something that bridges it all together. It has a Cat Stevens similiarity which is outstanding...Don't put it in a drawer anymore...This is a true love story that should be shared. Thank you for the opportunity to hear it.. AWESOME BOB

Darrell, Man, there's a lot of naked emotion in this, pain and anguish mixed with sorrow. You sure laid it on the line here. Good luck with Christine. I think it's safe to say she'll know how you feel when she hears this song.

Scott, Mackie,Stevie, Calvin, Dottie, Andy,Bob and Dan. Thank You ALL so very much for the listen. It is indeed a deeply personal tune as it was meant to be. Not sure if it's enduring love that I feel these days more than simple regret but it's all good now. She wanted me to move on and I have. I really, really appreciate you guys for your kind words and understanding where I was coming from naturally. I love hangin' out with you all and I love everyones music. God Bless all of you !! I'll leave Pepper's head shake in there Scott as she is my current love and she should be a part of who I am ! lol !! Thank you all again so much !!
