Okay, JPF, here is the most current version (February 6, 2012) of Roger's and my lyric, "Keep That Cell From Callin' Me". Please give us your feedback.

Keep That Cell From Callin' Me
©2012 Roger Sosnowski / Shayne Vaughan

Verse 1
Well it sounded like you on the golf course with the guys
Funny you told me you had to work all day
I heard people yelling fore and slappin' high 5's
Now boy, our future ain't lookin all that bright

Chorus
Better keep that cell from callin' me
Oh I guess you didn't know
Today it autodialed me while
You were putting on a show
But I ain't playin second fiddle
Won't be your monkey in the middle
How can I love someone I can't believe?
Better keep that cell from callin' me

Verse 2
I heard you laughin' down at Badlands Bar with your boozin' friends
After droppin me off at home claimin' you were sick
Then you kept goin' on about sexy Amber Lynn
Well babe, I'll be goin off when we meet again

Chorus
Better keep that cell from callin me
Oh I guess you didn't know
Today it autodialed me while
You were putting on a show
But I ain't playin second fiddle
Won't be your monkey in the middle
How can I love someone I can't believe?
Better keep that cell from callin' me

Bridge
Think I'll play my own little game
N' stage a date with my ol flame Michael Ray
hit a club or two n maybe swing by his place
Throw in some oooh's and aaah's
And when things get to soundin' hot
I'll dial your phone
Set mine on the countertop...
Pretty soon you'll be sayin'

Chorus
Better keep that cell from callin' me
Oh I guess you didn't know
Today it autodialed me while
You were putting on a show
But I ain't playin second fiddle
Won't be your monkey in the middle
How can I love someone I can't believe?
Better keep that cell from callin' me

(For female vocalist)
(Modified 1-29-12)

Verse 1
Well it sounded like you were on the golf course with the guys
Funny you said you had to work all day today
I heard you carryin on and slappin high 5's
Now boy...our future ain't lookin too bright
Yeah

Chorus
You better keep your cell phone from callin me
Oh I guess you didn't know
Today it autodialed me while
You were putting on a show
Well I ain't playin second fiddle
And I won't be your monkey in the middle
I just can't love someone I can't believe
You better keep your cell phone from calling me

Verse 2
I heard you down at Billy's Bar laughin' with your friends
After you dropped me off sayin you was sick
Then you were goin off about sexy Amber Lynn
Well Honey I'll be goin off when we meet again
Yeah

Chorus
You better keep your cell phone from callin me
Oh I guess you didn't know
Today it autodialed me while
You were putting on a show
Well I ain't playin second fiddle
And I won't be your monkey in the middle
I just can't love someone I can't believe
You better keep your cell phone from calling me

Besides a little tweeking here and there, getting rid of the "I's" for example once you have established who is singing and other "filler" words (just / and )you have a really great "universal/funny" song.

The situation is believable, current and really well presented.

Good Job Guys!

Hi Shayne and Roger,

Great story -- and comical too!

One thing struck me in the bridge...she still seems to be talking to her boyfriend/husband in the bridge, yet when she says that she'll "stage" a date, then she's already giving her plan away. Thus, at the end of the bridge, should it be: "pretty soon HE'LL be sayin'"? That way, it will seem like the bridge is a secret "aside" to the audience.

This is a fun one -- I'm sure that the music will be too!

Now I'm wondering about that change...Roger and I are discussing it...

Hi Doug,

Thanks for looking this one over. Shayne and I are in the process of tightening it up a bit. Getting rid of some of those redundant I's and you's. Changes out soon. Thanks for the suggestions. Take care,
Roger

HiDee Meister-Ski Guys!

Real Cute Carryings-On here, Gents!

Me? I got a Dumb-Phone that, with 150 Pre-paid Minutes on it WOULDN'T connect local OR long distance for a day & a half (preferring to read "Emergencies Only" Use, 'till La Femme blew 45 minutes talkin' to several Babes-in-India on how to fix it.)

Came REAL close to sailing it into The Gulf...& stickin' with the land lines....

I had No Idea these cussed Amenities had THIS much Venom in 'Em
'till I read Your Lyric here....talk about "Kiss and Cell"...heh!

I'd sug condensing your hook..to "KEEP YOUR CELL FROM CALLIN' ME"...Most listeners already Know the "Phone" part, methinks...

Good Luck with a Fun One..Glad I own a Dumb One, I Guess!

Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug,
Stan

Hi Shayne and Roger

I like the Chorus a lot. What I don't like is This one line in the 2nd verse the very first seven words. I'll say change it.

Verse 2
I heard you down at Billy's Bar laughin' with your friends
After you dropped me off sayin you was sick
Then you were goin off about sexy Amber Lynn
Well Honey I'll b

I heard you down at Billy's Bar -----------I have heard lines like this so many times

I had a phone a few years back that would pocket call my wife, the rat bastard never dialed anyone else just her, so I can relate to the concept. Cant wait to hear the final write with a melody...

Cheers

Hey Stan,
Thanks for checking it out! Yeah, condensing the title would be good, except it may be heard by some as "Keep Your Self From Calling Me", which would lose the whole cell phone theme. smile
