In April 2010, I posted a song for consideration after seeing a request for submissions. I heard nothing back, and soon forgot about it. Imagine my surprise when - three days ago - I got an email saying money had been sent to my PayPal account for placement of my song in an episode of the American TV series "Hellcats". My first thought was "Oh sure. This is definitely a scam", but a quick peek into my account showed the loot was there.  And the song title and my name are at the top of the Featured Music credits on the episode's web page.  (For some reason, my collaborator's name isn't listed as well. However, I've contacted the site moderators and requested that they adjust the information.) Anyway, to say I'm 'tickled pink' about the placement would certainly be an understatement. I guess this will be my '15 minutes of fame'.

It's a great achievement, Donna!
Make sure to use it when you pitch songs elsewhere. This kind of track record is interesting for publishers, and might just help you along, especially when you get more placements.
It's saying that your music is both marketable and useable!
Can we hear it somewhere? It's interesting to hear what's working out there..

Just back from Amsterdam, so I couldn't respond earlier. Roy, Everett, John, Colin, Vic, Larry, and Magne (and John again), thanks for dropping in. I still can't get over this little placement victory. It certainly is very encouraging. Fact is, I've been having a bit of a break from lyric writing (well, at least until FAWM ). However, I have a lot of songs sittlng idle on my computer, so I feel motivated again to try getting them out there. Cant tell you how happy I am for you. I ALWAYS thought from day one and upon leaving feedback on your first posts here that you had something. And you were VERY professional. It's one thing to be that with a lyric or a song but to have it in attitude is HUGE.
It makes all the difference....

Tom and Mike, thanks so much for your comments. I've always appreciated the ongoing encouragement from both of you. Tom, no secret. I joined Music Dealers a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, it was new at the time, but I thought 'What the heck. It's free and it's easy to upload'. They have an online contract that you need to read and agree to. At this stage, they're only set up to send payment to one payee, so that person is responsible for splitting the proceeds with any collaborators (which of course I've done ). thanks Donna I myself am also very impressed with Music Dealers...they seem to be a very professional company and they get alot of placements...I only learned of them recently and when I did I posted the info on JPF for everyone to check out...I agree its a bit of a headache to have to designate one person as the payee instead of checks going to different writers on the song-but oh well money is always some kind of problem aint it-lol......again congratulations on getting the song picked up for TV and let us know of all your future succeses..if you keep getting royalty checks you will need a tax deduction-marry me-I am at least good for that

Who knows...if it comes to the crunch... I agree, Music Dealers seem to be pretty professional. On the one or two occasions I had a query for them, they got back to me straightaway, and answered clearly.

Excellent news, Donna! Starting to do the same on musicdealers myself, so that is so encouraging to hear! Just keep submitting, & who knows, eh? Slow & steady wins the race, eh? lol Or to quote a Pantene ad: "It won't happen overnight, but it will happen!" I can't complain, I have 2 songwriters working on 2 of my songs, or I should say backing instrumental tracks, one of who has a publishing contract with BMG. It all takes time. Once again, congratulations, & keep writing!
