using an acer aspire laptop, running windows 7 and an intel pent. processor to record on.
went through my usb microphone and audacity 1.3 first and when I played in back the sound was wow, wowing with the guitar but not the vocals.
then played around with the settings on the microphone but had the same affect.
tried recording a video with my logitech usb camera and the same microphone with the same affect.
then tried just recording directly into the laptop using the usb camera same thing.
Any suggestions??
Douglas

Well you are getting wowed with and without the microphone, with and without Audacity. It is probably a setting on the computer's audio that is off. Maybe the sample rate or bit rate - 44,100 Hz and 16 bit???

Well i don't know enough about your system to say, but if you have Realtek as your computer sound device, you can adjust it under - speakers, default format.
In Audacity it is under edit, preferences, quality.
I don't know anything about USB microphones.
You should attempt to adjust them so they are all set the same - 44,100, 16 (or 24).

Hello again Colin and I guess I am still putting this question out there.
the setting for "Realtek HD Audio Manager" is 16 Bits, 44100 Hz (CD quality)
Audicity is 32-bit float, 44100 Hz
Does any of this help or explain the "whow, whow" effect I hear during play back using a USB mocrophone or the built it microphone??

I am not a big fan of USB mics or using built in mics.....as the quality is usually poor and problems like this are frequent and usually hard to diagnose and fix. If the mic is OK then it could be your input levels set too high or the wrong default I/O settings on Audacity. You may need to play around with these plus adjust levels to try to cure problem. It could also be "machine noise" coming from your PC that the mic is picking up....try to keep the mic a good distance from your laptop to eliminate this. Also double check that the version of Audacity you are using is compatible with your laptop bit rate and operating system. There is a section in the Audacity download page that deals with this.

Hello Jim. "Drats I thought you would have the solution to my other problem." I had to change the settings in the microphone properties section. The sound effects were both selected as a default I believe and that altered the sound during recording. I de-selected them and volia. Have a good night.
