Ok since no one else is posting yet, and before I go to bed to sleep gotta work tonite, here's my 2nd song, it was in the movie...I can't remember if it's called Something About Mary...or What About Mary...but it was in there...so here's my song
Here's my 1st one this week. I worked on this one with my voice teacher last year, but I still had to practice a few times before pressing record since it's been a while.
Before last year, the only song I knew from the musical Chess was "One Night In Bangkok," so I'd never heard this song before my voice teacher presented it to me. It's one of my favs that I've done.
Enjoy!
By the way, I'm surprised there aren't any more posts yet! There are TONS of movie songs, musical numbers, and TV show themes......
@Glyn- You Page Flipper you!!!! :-p you can post ANY song ... would love to hear another of your own if you'd like!
And I need to make one of these for Mike too - for the previous page! Not that he's using up everything he could post.... HINT HINT!!
@Ann -- I'm surprised too!! and I'm the same way re: Chess - I still don't know all the songs, but have learned at least one part to "I Know Him So Well" - it's one of the few female/female duet songs out there! great song... would love to see that show... someday!
FORGOT TO MENTION!! SINCE WE ARE CLOSE TO HALLOWEEN.... SONGS FROM
THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW
OR
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS
OR
PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
WILL GET A BONUS COUPON!! (especially if it's really funny! LOL! ... and most of these songs are freakishly hard to sing as well, so if you do one - you'll have earned it!)
But of course the Sound of Music and My Fair Lady and West Side Story etc are all fine too!
@Linda I'd completely forgotten about that song "I Know Him So Well." Now that I remember it, some girls in my choir class sang that song for our annual recital when I was in high school. I'd forgotten that song is from Chess.
Speaking of Phantom of the Opera, my high school choir regularly sang a medley of tunes from that musical for our quarterly concerts for all the parents. Luckily I was an alto so I didn't have to sing those high-up-in-the-rafters notes haha!
@Michael LeBlanc Listening now to your picks. It's funny how both songs I remember hearing a lot on oldies radio growing up as a kid but never knew who the artist or title was, especially "The Weight"!! Which by the way sounds awesome! Sounds directly from the late 60s, like it could've been in Easy Rider instead. Liked the Gordon Lightfoot one too. Well-sung and played.
Mojo, I've been working the long weekend, now home for 2 days, and I've listened several times to your songs and love them..but most of all I love your picture with your mic in hand and Skynyrd shirt...
Ok this is my bonus song... Linda wanted to hear another one of my own songs, did this one when I was beginning to get sick, and was coughing alot....about a year and a half ago, needs redoing...but here it is,,my own music and vocals...remember I'm NO singer...and I meant to sing crocodile tears but said alligator, lol..don't know why...
I didn't particularly care for the arrangement of this one. I thought it went too fast. Good thing I know the song like the back of my hand, thanks to all those hours of watching Disney movies as a child! I even remember seeing this one in theaters when it first came out.
Here's mine ... sort of a mishmash between Snow White's Mirror Mirror on the wall and West Side Story smushed together.... LOL
I Feel Pretty
West Side Story

I still have to LISTEN ... just bringing down the embedded players right now... my daughter GOT ENGAGED over the weekend so we are all full of excitement around here!!
But kinda sorta offline more than on!! Plus waiting for my antibiotics to kick in for my sinus infection too thank you all for your patience, I can't wait to get to hear all these fun choices!
Aw man, nobody's going for "Sweet Transvestite" from Rocky Horror yet...??? eh well, me either, too HARD! hahahaa
@ Linda...just great, loved hearing you sing this and loved the video.....
I wish more folks would join in on this, it's really fun and I'm learning alot about writing better and singing....thanks again Linda for having this...glyn
Just keep talking it up. Those who will have fun here will be drawn in! I too felt like "karaoke" was a little, hmmm.... Non-real-musician ??? -ish ?? You know... It's that derogatory word Simon Cowell throws out there to singers.... "That was so karaoke".... But once I started in, I realized how much I was learning and absorbing about song structure, writing, and by listening to others and how each person interprets and phrases the same lyrics, what works and actually, what songs everyone LOVES to sing.
I am also expanding my general knowledge base of songs I never heard before... Stuff not in my usual genres of favorites or that I was too young for, or just plain missed on more current radio.
And if we don't keep abreast of what IS selling and WHY.... How can we improve as current writers looking to pitch any song anywhere?
IE I had never heard Adele before.... But here is everyone singing her hits. And NOW I notice her on the radio... And wow, she IS an amazing artist. And I was introduced to her by ....participating in a karaoke site of all things.
Granted, I've also heard maybe more renditions of "Crazy" and "Fever" than I ever thought I would, but it's all right. Those songs endure and are enjoyed for good reason!!
OK soapbox time over!! LOL
Also... Looks like I picked a week I thought would be fun but is kind of a dud. LOL! It'll happen!! So... Midnight TONIGHT we'll go to Open Mic early... And have a long weekend of it!
PS: and if you still wanna do a movie song... that's cool too Bonus Coupon opportunities will still apply if anyone's adventurous enough!
Listening now!
Mojo - great cover of Tears in Heaven... lovely.
- The Weight - oh hey I do know this one! just didn't realize that was its title...! see, learn something new every day. Great job - harmonies just right too. :)
- AH-HA ... now I know where I've heard this!!
Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge performed it in "It Might Get Loud." Jimmy declined singing along, saying he was "hopeless" at singing.
-Lightfoot -- hey I really enjoyed this too... very very nice rendition.
@Joe -- Alphabet without U ... oh dear dear dear... funny Joe!! Just getting to that one... LOL ... hey - U can rap!
@Glyn - Ben ... just beautiful rendition of this timeless MJ song. - 16 candles -- oh also very nice!! great oldie - terrific! - Buttercup -- I don't think I know this one - great job singing it tho, I do like your singing! - Snake Charmer -- wow this is a really interesting lyric! enjoying your song here... great twist on the words.... great stuff!
@Ann -- I don't know all the songs from Chess so this is a first time through for me... but it is very pretty and your voice is sweet on it... enjoyed! thank you! -- Ariel's song - super interpretation! and you're right, it is a little fast... but it's all right... you rendered it really nicely!
Here's one from Toy Story and it's not me (I'm in the background) ... this is my son Joseph who wants EVERYONE to listen to him...!!!

One more from me.... since it's dead here...
I got one of THE nicest compliments I've ever had on this one... but I know it's still wobbly and needs work... have loved this song, forever, but never recorded it. Sang this at 6 AM or something when I had to be up, (and I don't do mornings) and it just ran through my head without leaving me alone, so... I sang it.

ok here is one that Mark Kaufman had the music and several of us put our own lyrics and vocals to..so here is Marks music with my lyric and me singing...again thanks Mark for this wonderful music...glyn
Okay, here's one for the open mike. Collab with the inimitable Beth Williams. A spooky waltz. Only time I ever got to use the "gloop" in my sound effects library, too.
@ Glyn,Snake charmer was cool! Not That Man is a pretty cool song also,i like it.Make You Feel My Love is one of my favorite songs of that type but Bob Dylan's version is the only one i can listen to,oh,besides yours of course.Whoever that was in the karaoke version really needed not to sing i thought though.
@ Linda,Not a fan at all of musicals and glittery showtune stuff but YOU do sound awesome singing those!
@ Joseph,I really enjoyed listening and watcgh your performance. It looks like you have a knack for entertaining so keep it up!
@Ann,really nice vocals on Part Of Your World!Keep on keepin' on!
@Michael LeBlanc @Linda Thanks for the compliment about Part of Your World! Glad you enjoyed it!
@Linda Listening to your rendition of Memory. Boy is that a VERY difficult song (I've seen the sheet music, wow does it swoop from low to high!) but you sang it very well. It was a truly heartfelt version of a sad song! Are you classically trained just out of curiosity?
Here's my 3rd movie song for this week, this time one without vocals, but nonetheless my version of a famous piece of music.
This is one of my favorite pieces of all time from a composer whom I have loved since I was a child. And this was SUCH a challenge to play for this self-taught pianist. But I knew that going in because it's Beethoven after all! This is me playing it after about 8 months of intense practice on my keyboard. There are still some parts I need to work on but I know that.
You're not alone Glyn! I just been extra sick this week. Urgh.
Thank you Ann!! I don't have formal classical training with lessons, no, but I do have a large range somehow, and a LOT of choral experience with sacred and/or folk type music both auditioned & non-auditioned choirs. Listened to a LOT of directors!!! All different.
But I'd call it "classical background" far more than formally trained.
I still want lessons but all I can find around here are opera teachers. I wanna rock!!! LOL!!
Thanks for listening though. I need to take that sometime when I'm not propped up in bed singing.... And redo it Lol Linda
PS I am actually out!! To watch my son's marching band halftime show tonight! More marching band tomorrow too. I hope my sinus infection etc doesn't all get worse. But anyway I forgot my headphones so I can't listen to ya during the game ...soon!!

THINGIE:
I am mobile at the moment, but want to announce now next week will be a "Halloweeen Jive," get down & boogie with your spooky songs, which will be held over through Halloween!
I have a cool graphic ready - but not sure I can find it to access it till I'm home. [color:#000000] AlSO, if you run out of or can't find enough spooky themed songs, if you have a cam -- and wear a Halloween costume -- sing anything and it'll count. If you don't have a cam but add a track of spooky scary howls and / or maniacal laughter to the beginning of your song, that will count too.
For SONG COUNT... since this is a longer Challenge, with Halloween on a Monday - let me just say "Pace yourselves," HAVE FUN, and try not to over-flood the board with toooo much fun. About 4 ... spaced out over the timeframe... should be all right... if you love the holiday and have a lot of fun with this. :-)
@Joe - this is a new one to me! This is spooky sounding - thanks for starting us out a little bit early! enjoyed that - pretty cool song!
@Ann - truly enjoyed your playing of this gorgeous piece of music! Very nice touch on the keys... and it is extremely difficult... I haven't practiced enough to get it down this nicely myself... I think I would have to memorize it to truly perform it with any degree of finesse.... the sheet music score is SO difficult for me to read with the double-sharps and accidentals - yipes... Beethoven was brilliant. sigh... LOVELY. Have been looking forward to hearing this since you posted it.
{{I'm home now BTW... and near asleep... but listening before I hit the hay!}}
@Mojo -- Angel -- yeah, great standard blues --- even got that classic "killing floor" line tossed in! Great job - nice sound and singing! -- Blues in Motion - yeah!!! rocking some more great blues sound! GREAT stuff! love the harp and the guitar & bass here too
@Glyn -- Not That Man - oooh I like this theme, and the music is very cool on this - well done, girl!! :-D Sad but interesting and important, and it does happen... you hit things right on the head. To Make You Feel -- Another great job singing here -- your phrasing is spot-on as always! super emotion. enjoyed! All righty -- have a great rest of the weekend guys - I have a VERY busy day tomorrow but less so Monday (I think) so I'll be back in soon as I can.
