Our family Band, Blueberry Hill Bluegrass has come a long way in the past year. We've been gigging a lot, so I haven't had much time for writing & arranging this summer. I did finally write a new tune yesterday & we recorded it on the front porch this morning during our practice time.

Let us know what you think!

p.s.- you can also check out our website at www.blueberryhillbluegrass.com

Cheers!

GREAT! This is really good and the recording doesn't sound like a front porch recording.

Thanks Rob. I was surprised at the recording myself. I just used our Tascam dp008 with the little onboard mics! Then I tweaked it in Audacity just a tad. Like you say, not that bad. I just ordered another condenser mic for our little home studio. We have decided to record everything live, the way Jerry Garcia and David Grisman did with Tony Rice. Hey, if they can, we can. But we really feel something is lacking laying down individual tracks. We love to play live and the bounce off each other. So we're just gonna go with it & see what happens! Thanks for the listen!

Kevin...

Like I told you over on "The Ramp", this is one cool song...and that's from someone who's not real excited about Bluegrass! really do like it. I think it's your presentation presentation and and the character in your voice that sells this one for me. besides, the song itself is pretty danged good! Lots of good lines and emotions in this one!

I was in Winslow last week...gladf to be back in Tennessee, thoughy!

Great job on a great song...loved it! All the best...

Sounds real good to me. A mighty fine laid back bluegrass tune. A real good live recording and I like the vocals and harmony. Energy dropped off a little during the solos, but that can be the fault of the recording setup, too.

Good job and that must be a blast to play and sing with the family!

Thank you Al. I've never been to Winslow, but I've been to Flagstaff, which isn't too far away. I think Arizona is a beautiful state & hwy 40 just gets my creative wheels spinning.

Howdy Kevin. This was the first time we played the song as a band. We worked out the arrangement verbally then just played. We're working on the instrumental breaks and they are coming along. The song will also be recorded with our ace dobro player, Ol' Uncle Loren soon. Someone else mentioned the lack of energy during the breaks & I agree. We'll spice that up. Vocally, I still need some practice with it to get my breathing right. Thanks for listening!

Love it, Kevin - everything about it. I really envy you - you must be having the time of your life! smile

Yeah, a few more practices on this to get those solos down and this will be a knockout. Good job!

I love the organic feel of this, from instrumentation to vocal. Real nice harmonies too.

I feel a bit of a disconnect between music and lyric. You have a rather somber tune but this perky upbeat lyric. It's not a bad marriage, but maybe more of a troubled one! Even interjecting a few minor chords in the chorus would help that.

Solid work.

Gee whiz, Tammy. Thanks for the greeting. Much appreciated. Matter of fact, I need a pick-me-up, about now. Glad to be back. Well if I could sing the alphabet for you, I would. But I would have to learn it first! I always get hung up in the l,m,n,o,p region... :>)

What a cool song, I love the title it just sings to me! smile

It must be very nice to have a family band. Did you all just grow up playing instruments together?

Hi Dottie. I played guitar for my kids when they were babies. We took them to lots of bluegrass festivals. My daughter plays the guitar & my son plays banjo now. My wife plays the bass. We have a friend we call Unkle Loren, who is a very good dobro player, and he joins us when we play out somewhere. It is really nice!

Ha Ha, that's funny Mr. Nelson. We were recording in the lawn, just past the front porch, where it was shady. Just using the onboard mics, it turned out pretty good, considering. Been working on tweaking our studio acoustics, and we're gonna lay down some demo tracks this Saturday. I hope they sound as good as our "front porch" stuff.

Thanks for stopping by, man.

Hey Kevin...

Bluegrass isn't my first genre but I appreciate quality....and you delivered.
I lived up in the Seattle area in the 60's and Winslow sounds familiar to me....maybe part of Bainbridge Island?
Thought there might be a connection to your tune.

Thanks everyone for your comments. We have been performing this song live and folks seem to dig it. We are in the process of mixing a new version, so I'll post it up when it's complete. Hopefully in just a few days.

By the way, Congnac, I'm not sure how Soundclick works, either, but it's the first song I've had at number one without lots of promotion. I just told a handful of folks. The other two songs that made #1 were winners of the Soundclick songwriting contest, so they received front page promotion as a prize. That's an easy way to get to the top spot in a hurry, since the front page ad gets lots of hits. We are beginning recordings for our bluegrass C.D., so we'll be sure to include Long Walk in the line up.

Best wishes, friends.

Well, Ma'am, you're the second one to say that. This is mostly an impressionist type song & I had in mind Winslow, AZ during the monsoon season. It can rain buckets one minute, then be scorching hot, the next. Long highways through the desert felt lonely to me, but exciting. I was in Kingman a couple years back. Seemed like a truck stop town, on a road to nowhere. I was out walking from our motel at 2 a.m., and saw my first real-live cockroach. It was a lonely place that day. So that's what it's about -- Arizona, and a girl with walking shoes. There aint much of a burning sun around these parts. At least lately. Sure wish there was, though!

But since this is an impressionist lyric, it can be Winslow, WA if you like. Or it can be a big Cuban kickboxing dude named Winslow. Whichever rings your chimes the most. I don't mind either way. :>)

Thanks for listening & your thoughts. Glad you liked!
