Well, here goes... I'm sceeeeeerd, but still want to share, and want to know your thoughts all the way around. I had trouble with mixing... it sure sounded better with the headphones than it does when I play it back on Soundclick. I may not be the right vocalist for this, but want to know if the melody and music is working right, somewhat, very little, or not at all! lol! Thanks! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11031059V1 You said the Angels would rejoice So I lifted up my voice And I admitted that I love The same King you do. V2 The Truth was in your eyes Watchful hour, no compromise I could see the depths of wisdom In all you knew. Pre-Chorus: And if I've captured... only a fiber of All the things offered to us with Holy Love, Then I am comforted, truly comforted.. Comforted Chorus: And you, the Evangelist.. Ooh, you are a gift To the glory of a sovereign King And you know He placed that call Because He loves us, one and all... Thank you for answering V3 And there's so much more to learn, For that Homeland make me yearn As I journey on this pilgrimage In this foreign land V4 On the border of the final day, Through you, He sent His Word my way Leading me out of my darkness Yes, God holds my hand Pre-Chorus: Though we may borrow from what we learned yesterday We can live right now by the power of His grace And I am comforted, truly comforted.. Comforted Repeat Chorus Repeat V1/Outro: You said the Angels would rejoice So I lifted up my voice And I admitted that I love.... The same... King... you... do... (c) 2004 Jennifer L. Warner

Michael, thanks for stopping by for a listen and commenting! I'm glad you like it! I'll give it a re-record to get the pitch problems out soon, mostly just wanted to make sure this melody and music is working ok! I may have to get someone else more suited for this style on the vocal. Really appreciate your kudos!

Hey Jen, so what were you sceeeeeerd of exactly? The vocals sound good the music is nice, the lyrics fit.....nicely done! The only nit I have was I was anticipating a step down in the prechorus on the second line. And that is a very small thing.
And on the Headphones thing Jen, alllllways remember, HEADPHONES LIE! I believe it was Mike Caro who told me a while back the best way to see what you've got is to put it on cd, listen to it on a stereo, walk out of the room and listen to it, and finally throw it in your car stereo and turn it up. That usually gives me a good idea of what I got goin on.

The melody works nicely Jen...it moves around nicely and has a Carole King quality to it.
As far as the recording goes, I'm assuming you only wanted to convey the essence of the song...which you've done.
So kudos, and best of luck on the next steps..
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Dave-- Thanks so much!! No turkeys, Hey? I don't know what I'm going to do for Thanksgiving, then! Haha... guess I'll have to keep working on that! Todd-- Thanks so very much.. I guess I was mostly scared because this is a "worktape" and I know my vocal isn't the perfect fit on this one. But you made a GREAT observation about stepping down in the pre-chorus... actually on the first pre-chorus, it IS supposed to step down, so I boo-booed. I didn't even realize it until you pointed it out. But I intended it to step up in the second pre-chorus. Will have to listen again to see if it needs to step up in the 2nd one. And I will take that advice about listening on several different mediums for sound-quality.. those headphones DO lie! John-- thanks very much for the kudos! Yes, that's exactly it... I wanted to convey the essence. I will need to get a proper vocal done on the real demo! ***Could anybody recommend a vocalist who could do this Christian style for a demo? Thanks, --Jen

Your vocal tone is quite beautiful. Clearly one of the biggest obstacles for you is just confidence. There are places I can hear you right at the edge of letting it go and just letting your heart do it. It's hard for us for whom the notes don't come automatically, but eventually that's where the best takes come from.
In terms of songwriting, there are a few places where I heard the melody wanting to rise and you didn't do it. I'm not sure if that was intentional or more self-consciousness about your voice. Which I totally get.
Production-wise, it felt like you might be pushing the vocal level toward clipping a few times. Other than that, the point of this is conveying raw emotion without putting excess in the way. This gets the job done.
Nicely done.

Thanks, NGB! Yes, you are right about the confidence! I usually have it, but I didn't on this one. At least not on the present recording. So, in places where the melody may need to rise, are you able to be more specific as to where? Not meaning to make you listen again, but it wasn't intentional, but may have been subconscious.
Production-wise, was nearly red-lined during the Chorus.. that's what I mean by I had a hard time with the mix. I think I started off too soft or too far from the mic in the beginning, and I haven't figured out if I can segment the parts of the song to turn some parts up and some parts down. I can adjust each track's volume, but within one track, can't seem to adjust parts. So, I had to turn the whole thing up just to bring out the beginning.
Thanks for that catch. I will likely re-record my vocal anyway to get a more accurate production to send for demo while I'm searching for the right vocalist to do the demo! Appreciate your time and input very much!

Do you use compression? That's exactly what it's for...but as with everything, the better you get it in at first the less futzing later.
Ill listen again in the morning regarding the melody.

Good stuff...Nice vocal, melody works too. I find I have the best luck writing the lyrics after I've come up with the musical arrangement. If I write the lyrics first, I always have trouble fitting music around them.

Yeah, I'm not sure why you were scared either? Sounds great, Jen. I was going to ask about compression too. If you aren't using it, you should consider it - you can find free plug-ins on the web if your software doesn't have a compressor. It can really even out a vocal track nicely. As for the song - it fired on all cylinders for me Scott

You've got a very Gloria Estefan voice, which of course is one of the best voice of the last 30 years. At first I thought Karen Carpenter but gE is closer, but both have a natural ckarity.
So the first rise I hear is the the last syllable of the second line of each verse. You have a melodic rise at the end of the first line but the classic line I hear is to rise even more on the second. I can whistle it and if there weren't small girls sleeping in my house I'd go to the piano and play the melody I hear.
Similarly, the second comforted needs to soar. It's like a bird, first one is getting read to jump, second is flying, last one is landing and taking a breath.
Some real beauty in this song.

Hi, Jim--- thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments. I'm glad to know your writing style... I always like to know how others write as I get to know them, incase there is potential of working together!! Really appreciate your time! Scott-- Thank you so much, and glad you like it!! No, I haven't played with the compression... as NGB mentioned it also, I will check that out. I know I have it on my software, but it's also good to know what it is for in the first place! Thanks so much, it's those little nuggets that help me learn all the way around! NGB-- WOW! What a wonderful compliment! Thank you! And as for that rise on the last sylly of the 2nd line of each verse.. nice catch! Yes, it is exactly supposed to rise there, and my voice just wasn't cooperating, so I kind of subconsciously gave up on it.. but I think that will make a significant difference when I re-do it. Also on the second "comforted"-- I get you all the way! Very keen observation, so thank you! And as I told Scott, I will also check out the compression technique if necessary after I re-record! Thank you for coming back and listening again, to clarify! That's a big help!!! All the best, --Jen

Hey Jen... Enjoyed your tune and vocals. You asked about a female vocalist for a demo. You might contact Heather Cowles...(many here have used her) if you just want a basic G/V demo or to use her vocal track. If you like you can email her at: micowles1@aol.com. Here is her My Space page with some of her music: http://www.myspace.com/heathercowlesmusicLarry

Well, if my voice would clear up, I'd be able to get this one done.... But, Larry-- thank you so much for your kind words! And thank you for Heather's info. I've heard her on other songs here, she will be the first one I go to if I can't get it done!1 Linda-- Haha... I will run just as soon as I am able! Thanks much!! --Jen
