Happy July! July is a time of declaring our independence, and this can equally apply to what we do as musicians, songwriters and singers. Numerous artists have made a good living for themselves doing what they love most: writing and performing their own songs/compositions and controlling all of the creative and business aspects of their career (something not likely to occur if you were signed to a major record label). With that frame of reference, we are very proud to have as our guest artist and presenter for our July meeting next Friday the 22nd, the amazing Tracy Newman! Tracy's first love has always been songwriting, but her writing skills took her on a grand detour into television-land where she became quite successful. Along the way she wrote for Cheers and the Ellen DeGeneres show (where she won Emmy and Peabody awards) and co-created According to Jim which ran for 8 seasons. But songwriting was always calling and one day she gave up her lucrative TV gig to "go for it" as a songwriter and performer. In the process she recently won two prestigious songwriting competitions and was #1 on the indie sales charts in the Pop Country genre! Tracy writes both solo and with collaborators, and has performed solo, as a trio and with her full band (known Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements - pictured below). ![[Linked Image]](http://thetasound.com/JPF/TNandR.jpg) If you are interested in knowing how Tracy has achieved the recognition and success she currently enjoys, how her group is in demand for live shows several times a month, and how she manages to keep writing amazingly high quality songs despite her terrifically busy schedule, then join us Friday, July 22nd at 7:30 p.m. at Theta Sound Studio for a very special evening with Tracy Newman. The song circle theme for this month is Independence, America, Love of Country, etc., so create a song or pull one out of your song bag to perform that fits the theme. Arrive at 7:15 p.m. to grab some food, get a prime seat and we'll start at 7:30. Please RSVP to this e-mail. Also, if you think of anyone who should be here to participate, by all means... send them a copy of this e-mail or bring them along. Time, place and parking details are below... Friday, July 22nd, 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. Theta Sound Studio (call 818-9-555-888 for directions--looks funny... but it works!) And bring a little something for the potluck table. All the best...
