Well, we said we were going to do it, and, gosh dangit, we (think) we did it. The final mix wrapped at Foothill College's Dept. of Music Technology last week. We recorded the song at The Annex (Digital Audio Productions, Menlo Park, CA), tapping some very gifted Bay Area session pros, 18 months earlier on Nov. 6, 2009. We're eager to post it at JPF and have you, our peers, critique 'What's Left to Finish?' the song we're billing as 'The 4th Saddest Country Song in History,' but, per my co-producer/co-writer's request, we've got to wait until the Grammy-winning songwriter and the Nashville producer, who requested first digs, have had the opp this weekend to do their long-awaited listen. Thank you, by the way, for the emails of support. Someday, we just might divulge the story behind the song...and why it took us so damn long to complete it. But until then, please accept this teaser: She took one of us back. Ya-ta-hey! Ralph Scott, SUBURBAN COWBOYS MUSIC

Terrific, When you get it posted on a Web Site add a link on the MP3 Board so we can decide if it is the 4th saddest country song of all time. Good luck.

Will do Ray. Thanks for the invite. We should have it posted within 7 days. (Of course, it's okay too if you and the gang decide it's the 5th or even 6th saddest country song...)

What's left to finish? How about "listening to the song"? I couldn't get all the way through it. Nor did I want to. The singer's voice is really obnoxious in that sentimentally sappy "I want to be Elvis, but I don't know how" kind of way. The music gives the listener nothing to grab ahold of. The stereotypical lyrics in the vein of "she left me, and now my world has ended" don't even approach good craft, much less above-average craft. There are people in Nashville who can turn out something this bad in 180 minutes, never mind 18 months. It will probably be a huge hit, if y'all are connected to the right people, but this is nowhere near a great song. Just telling you what I really think.

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
