Hi, thought I was too savvy to get song-scammed, but never say never in this biz. I have created a Google group: "Zanetis is a Nashville Song Scammer" for musicians and songwriters to help one another navigate the shark-infested publishing waters. My dumb/sad tale is at that site or my blog at myspace.com/jkellyjr. Share your experiences and advice, please! I wasn't even looking for anything, and this Slick Willy got me.Be careful out there.

Also, I was approached by a person going by the alias "John Rice" at Diamond Garden Music. He's really Eric Zanetis, and he's linked to Horizon Music, too. He never identified himself as Zanetis. Not once in emails and phone calls.

I read your blog -- did you get your song on that compilation CD? That is one of the good things about belonging to a forum like this (and others), is that you can ask questions when you get emails about amazing opportunities.
At the same time, there is no reason to post the same message in multiple forums here at JPF -- we get it. At some point in time you will probably have to let this go and move on.

Thanks!
My multiple posts weren't meant to indicate an added degree of angst over this particular scam. So many forums here; wasn't sure which would be most effective in getting these nefarious names out. I'm a journalist, and we are dogged types when we see wrongs committed. I could just let go (and I will; ain't my first songwriting rodeo) but just letting go is how we let unfettered greed bring us all to our economic knees. All you need is love, but carry a big stick.
To answer: If you think there will ever be a professional compilation album by Zanetis, "Rice", Diamond Garden Music, et al, called "Soundtrack of America" sent to radio, TV, industry artists, ect., I have[s][/s] a song bridge to sell you. When Zanetis/Rice was found out, I asked for my money back and "contract" rescinded. He said I would receive a certified letter within two days. But nada. However, I posted on the Horizon forum, and a songwriter thanked me for saving her because she almost fell for "Rice's" scam a few days ago with a different compilation title. Anyone with iTunes can compile something, but promising to be sent out to 800 on a big-time listing is ridiculous. It was too easy; my song is a good demo, but still a demo. He just caught me at a very down time, and I forgot the journalist's credo: "If your mother says she loves you, check it out."
I find far too many fellow writers on these forums tacitly approving scammers' immoral successes via sarcasm or outright blaming the writer. Let's stop that. Every songwriter taken robs all of you. Don't just let it go so quickly. Spread the names of the frauds. Hey, that includes TAXI (been there, done that). Invented the pay-for-subs scam.

This group/names has showed up numerous times here at JPF. In google, post this: Zanetis site:jpfolks.com == Here is a post from 2004 that tells you all you need to know: http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/189418 (Note: I didn't get any hits on "Diamond Garden" or "Soundtrack of America", though Nonetheless, belonging to a site like this helps reduce the chances of shark attacks. Ahh, scammers...got to love the persistance, don't ya...no, yeah, me neither.
Glad to know there are places we can find out the "who's who" of them before we get bitten...again. Unfortunately, its not who you know but what you know, and some of us at times are too stubborn to find that out before hand.
Good luck.
