David & Tams, Excellent song, Dave. It has a strong, folkish melody with a memorable chorus and the lyrics are plainspoken, to the point and they fit the melody well.
Tams, You did a fine job singing on this. I noticed a few times you "tweaked" the melody, perhaps trying for an emotional effect. I tend to like a more straight-forward reading of the lyric. Others may not. I agree with some of the earlier posters that your elongation of "we" at the end of the chorus just doesn't fit. I think you should sing it with an air of resignation. Hit the note and let your voice softly fade out.
Overall, a strong effort by both of you. It's a good song.

Really nice song. This is a good demo to get the feel of the song. I could hear a different melody in a couple of places during the verses but the song itself is really good. I can imagine this as backing music to TV for sure but will need a more polished version to make the grade for that. I could also hear this done on piano rather than guitar. Might be worth David trying that out. Keep up the good work on your vocals. They have certainly improved from what I can hear but there is still room for improvement so keep working hard and you'll do just fine.

Nick,
Appreciate the listen! I am glad you liked it and the more fully produced version is being worked on right now, the musicians are reading comments, so I am sure they will take your suggestions into consideration.
I agree that David is wise, but I don't give him much of a choice...I keep begging until he says "yes"...LOL!! He's very sweet to let me have a version of this wonderful song!

All of the great comments above really say it all Tammy.
Me and Helen listened twice and both loved it.
She said you have a most amazing voice to make you weep.
I love your singing as well
God Bless Roy and Helen

Tammy, I came back for another go tonight. I've listened to it several times. You know the only thing that would make it sadder for me would be a lonely violin !! I love sad.

Nice to meet you David and may I say what a beautiful and bittersweet lyric and melody. Tammy I can understand why you wanted to sing this and you sang so well. There's something very contagious about the Chorus. I can really hear/feel this as an Alison Krauss kind of song. Best, Lynn

This is a gorgeous song. I'm coming late to the game so don't have anything to add as far as the lyrics or vocals, which are both wonderful. Some suggestions on the overall mix balance. There is a harsh ringing at 1.1K, very noticeable on the word "for" in "there's nothing for me here". You need a deep cut there. I did a quick EQ on the mix and these settings cut some ringing and muddiness, and really brings out the vocal. FREQ Q GAIN
166 1.55 -1.2

735 0.4 -3.4
1.1K 0.13 -8.1
2.0K 0.39 -2.0
2.56K 0.42 -0.7 In total, these might be a bit much but I think the 1.1K cut is most important. ..ant
