A song about our ancestors who settled the land and the reason why most of even know about it...because our grand parents told us. If anyone plays banjo and wants to add a track, feel free. Cuz My Grand Dad Said My grand daddy, he told me a story that he heard at his own grand daddy’s knee about wooden ships and men and how they came here to this land Of the brave and the strong and the free They took the long road, they had no plan Somehow ended up in the bosom of the promised land Built a home, among the trees Raised their children, to believe In the Lord and the land of the free They said their prayers, they pulled the plow They fished the sea and they dug under ground Through salt and dirt, calloused hands And how I know is cuz my grand dad said So, say your prayers And pull that plow Wish for rain Plant your seeds in fertile ground The sun will shine, and you’ll stand proud Just say your prayers son and pull that plow Well, ya know it’s not easy Try’n to tow that line I keep thinkin’ that’s just the way it was back in the olden times But blood and sweat is what built this land And how I know is cos my grand dad said So say your prayers And pull that plow Wish for rain Plant your seeds in fertile ground The sun will shine, and you’ll stand proud Just say your prayers and pull that plow So say your prayers And pull that plow Wish for rain Plant your seeds in fertile ground The sun will shine, and you’ll stand proud Just say your prayers son and pull that plow

I think it sounds good.
You sound like Steve Earle.
I think a mandolin would fit in better than a banjo, to tell you the truth.

First, I wish I had a mandolin and second, I wish I could play a mandolin.
I think there must be some mandolin players around here.
I am a lyricist, but I also have a good ear for music.

Hi Duncan, This sounds very cool. You've written a really nice story and who ever is singing is doing a great job too. I love the melody, actually there isn't anything I don't like about it...very nice job! Dottie

Thanks Dottie. It's me singing in my best mid-grovel voice. I certainly wish I was a better musician or that I could add a piano or fiddle or...something. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for the raisins. I just wrote a new verse for this and think I'll spend some time on the weekend to record a new version. Do you play banjo?
