Time to mark your calendar now for the March 4th meeting of Just Plain Folks L.A. Our special industry guest will be composer, songwriter, musician, arranger and music prep specialist, Bettie Ross. Knowing Bettie both personally and professionally, I came up with a title that fits this next meeting to a tee: "Versatility - The Key to Success in the Music Industry." Bettie is not only versatile, she is talented, competent and successful! Add to that, she won two top honors at the 2009 JPF Music Awards: Best Piano Solo Album for "A Magical Time of Year" and Best Piano Solo Song for "Merrymaking." (The album was recorded by yours truly here at Theta Sound Studio, and that's where I first heard about Just Plain Folks!) In addition to the JPF awards, Bettie has earned two Gold Records for pipe organ performances on albums by Meat Loaf and by Faith Hill. Her electronic feature film score for "The Mirror" will be released later this year. In Bettie's "day job" as a music copyist, she's earned more than 150 Gold and Platinum albums since 1995, and is currently on the music prep team for Bono and The Edge's "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark" on Broadway. To hear some of Bettie's music and learn more about this versatile musician, check out these links: http://www.bettieross.comhttp://www.myspace.com/bettierosshttp://www.myspace.com/bettierossfilmmusichttp://soundcloud.com/bettie-rosshttp://www.youtube.com/user/BRoss3011http://www.reverbnation.com/bettierosshttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm1710242http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bettierossFollowing Bettie's performance, talk, and Q&A with the audience, our song circle will continue with an appropriate theme for the month of March... in honor of St. Patrick's Day, let's create some songs/music with an Irish or Celtic vibe. Some of my favorite music has come from the isles and Bill Whelan's "Riverdance" along with the awesome "Celtic Woman" concerts are certainly a big part of my affinity for that music. So... do come out for this special meeting (actually, they're all special...). You may come at 7:15 p.m. if you like, which will give you time to network with other earlybirds and enjoy some of the fine food and drink (please bring a little something for the snack table). Also, if you think of anyone who should be here to participate, by all means... send them a copy of this notice or bring them along. Time, place and parking details are below... Friday, March 4th, 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. Theta Sound Studio Burbank, California (e-mail rmt@thetasound.com for directions) All the best... Randall Michael Tobin
