It is our pleasure to announce the 2011 kickoff meeting and showcase of the Tampa Bay chapter of "Just Plain Folks. A group involving all walks of the music industry from Songwriters and Musicians to Recording Studio Engineers and Publishers. This event will be held on from 2:pm to approx 6:pm or later depending on performers. This is an all-inclusive organization and is dedicated to the purpose of networking and educating any person interested in the Music Industry. We welcome anyone at any stage of musical growth to join us for an afternoon of information, networking and if interested an opportunity to showcase their talent to others with similar goals. We are working on a guest speaker so stay tuned. The meeting/showcase will be held at: The L. A. Hangout 16411 No. Florida Ave. Lutz FL 33549 813-964-5431 This is one of the best stages and performance rooms we have encountered in Tampa Bay since we started this chapter in 2003, so bring on your best game and if you like a camera. This is a non smoking room and food and drink are available through the venue. Please feel free to bring any promotional material along with your instrument of choice and of course your friends and loved ones (note: unruly children will be forced to eat a salad) if you care to showcase. A P.A. mics and amp will be provided to assist in performing of original material. We look forward to meeting with as many of you as possible as the slogan for " Just Plain Folks" is" We're All In This Together" it couldnt be more true. There is a local musicians' and songwriters' Meetup I've been a member of for the past about 5 years that has been inactive for the past year or two. There suddenly has been a bunch of people responding on it asking for some get-togethers. So I plan to post this meeting on the Meetup. FYI

Q, You can bring any gear you care to, to enhance your performance as a band, but we no longer supply a full backline. It's just not practical for the amout of setup and the limited time it's used. I will bring my conga, percussion setup and if any one else wants to voluteer a bass amp and or drums that's strictly on a volunteer basis. Getting a cold during allergy season has done a number on my voice. Been trying for a week to nurse it back to health. I wish I could participate in the showcase and chat and schmooze, but I think it would set my voice back; it's still only whispery at this point. Last year I lost my voice for 5 weeks so I have to take this seriously. My regrets that it's looking like I cannot attend the kickoff in Lutz.

Sadly I won't be able to make it today for a laundry list of reasons... one of which being that I'm resting my voice for my gig tonight at Tanya and Matt's. I've been fighting a nasty cold, too.
I am sure the showcase will be great and a fun time will be had by all. Wish I could have made it. Sigh.

I had a great time. Al gets mucho credito for masterminding the whole thing. Andy did his usual superb job on sound. Wonderful talent and I was happy to see the Film Crowd back. Life is good when we are all in it together.
