(I'm posting this on behalf of my friend Max Dearing, who runs Dark Pines Studio in Graham, NC)
Written a great song, but don't know where to submit it to sell it? Not sure how to market yourself as a songwriter? Come talk to 4 guys who DO know... and are making a living as a working musician/songwriter!
Dark Pines Studio - Graham, NC. is hosting a Songwriter's Roundtable, on Monday, Jan., 10, 2011 from 7pm-10pm-ish. (Longer if there's interest in stickin' around.)
Panel members who have confirmed for the roundtable; Bill West, Shelby Merchant and Jeff McClean. Unfortunately, I had a cancellation from the 4th guy I asked, and I'm waiting to hear back from a coupla' other guys I've contacted.
If you would like to join us, it'd be a pleasure having you here! Or, if you would like to recommend anyone, please lemme know.
The concept of this round table really isn't about 4 guys telling everyone else what to do. It's really meant to get everyone truly engaged in how to work together to help solve each others problems... with ideas of what has worked, and just as important, what hasn't worked for individuals in the past.
There are a lot of good songwriters in the region, and having worked with quite a few of them, it just makes sense to provide them with the opportunity to explore how to deal with the new realities in selling your music.
There's lots of new pitfalls, walls and legal hoops to jump through and avoid. I make no claim to having any real insight to solving all these issues, I was simply asked to consider hosting this roundtable to, in fact, learn for myself what songwriters are facing. It made sense to me, and it seems like the right thing to do.
Bring your guitar, questions and a willingness to share! (We do have a piano and a couple of guitars here, if you need em'.)
This Songwriter's Roundtable, will be a two part evening. We'll start out with a discussion panel on; Copyright, IP Rights, marketing, distribution and controlling your own destiny. We plan to tape this segment as educational material to be put out on the web.
Next, we'll break out into a traditional songwriter's circle. We'll record this and each person in attendance will receive a copy for their own personal use/review.
We have space for 10 attendees plus the 4 panel members.
Cost is $5.00 to cover refreshments and CD.
Inclement weather date is the next week; Monday Jan, 17.
If you're interested in attending, give the studio a shout, or email Max Dearing @ max@darkpinesstudio.com

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
