Well folks, Heather went through the lyrics three times and chose 3 which she then narrowed down to the one that in her words was the most interesting for her.
Thanks to everyone who took part. Happy Christmas to all
God Bless Helen and Roy
So the lyrics she chose were entered by Dottie:
I’m as Gone as T-Rex
The dinosaurs are gone Come on out of your cave I tried to keep the flame burning But there’s nothing left to save You’re living in our stone age Should a known it wouldn’t last We can’t build a future With you digging up my past
Chorus I’m as gone as T-Rex, honey You can forget about me I ain’t living in history Counting rings ‘round petrified trees Analyze this, You’re Foot-lose-and-fancy-free I’m as gone as T-Rex, honey You can forget about me
My life’s been evolving I thawed out from your Ice Age I’m walking upright, on two feet I’ve joined the human race Like fossils in the rocks We just didn’t make it Scrutinize it all you want But, I ain’t got to take it
Chorus I’m as gone as T-Rex, honey You can forget about me I ain’t living in history Counting rings ‘round petrified trees Analyze this, You’re Foot-lose-and-fancy-free I’m as gone as T-Rex, honey You can forget about me
Aw, don’t look so pitiful You’ll discover fresh bones My skeleton’s out of the closet So I might as well go home We weren’t meant to be I should a saw it coming Like a Neanderthal caveman I should a took off running
Chorus
Bridge It’s a crying shame; you can’t let go of the past Like the Jurassic period it wasn’t meant to last You’ll find love’s not something you can extract And I’m not waiting for another eruption of Deccan Flats
Chorus

Dandelion Wine by Lee Arten
Grandma wrote the recipe in script so clear and round. Mama typed it for me when I moved out of town. Lost it once when travelling, had to scribble it again. Always meant to take the time and make some of my own.
Chorus Grandma's dandelion wine took a while. It had a kick and it made folks smile. Looked like early sunlight pale and yellow. Tasted like spring, and early summer, in a bottle.
Grandma liked to pick her dandelions in the early dew. Mama just got 'em when she could draft a kid, or two. I'd have to take vacation to get my dandelion picking done. Or just smile and think of Granny, when I see 'em in the lawn.
Spoken Grandma boiled blossoms, orange and lemon, till it was right. Then covered up the mixture and let it stand one night. Strained it through a cloth, put sugar and yeast in to make it go. In two weeks it was bottled. Then the time moved really slow. Months and months went by before Grandma poured a single glass. Grandpa didn't like to wait for all that time to pass.
Chorus.
Last year I decided to have a flower picking meet. Called Joe and Arnie, and got the girls from up the street. Picked five buckets full of blossoms, had a fine old time. Today we opened the first bottle of our own dandelion wine.
Our dandelion wine took a while. It has a kick and makes us smile. Looks like early sunlight, pale and yellow. Tastes like spring, and early summer, in a bottle. Tastes like spring, and early summer, in a bottle...

"What Should I Think" by coalminer
Verse-1 Every night I hear you talking in your sleep, Giving up secrets you swear that you don't keep, You always find it hard to look me in the eyes, That's how I know you're coming up with clever lies. Oh, I, What should I think.
CHORUS:
Oh, baby what should I think, Or I'll just assume the worst on my own, The only times that I start to think, Are the times that you leave me alone.
Verse-2 Is there something going on that I don't know, Looks like something's on your mind you're afraid to show, A little truth always goes a long way, You put together all the right words to say. Oh, I, What should I think.
CHORUS:repeat BRIDGE:instr.
CHORUS:repeat

She Gets to Ride Her Appaloosa by Kevin Emmrich
(verses) Sally lives in the city streets are filthy she doesn't feel pretty
her chances slim she won't give in like her mom did when she was just a kid
(chorus) but at night she dreams of riding her appaloosa where no one calls her a loser because way out west life's like a 100 percent on a test and she doesn't worry about the future because she gets to ride her appaloosa
(verses) she sees a desert flower painted on the wall, gotta hurry it'll be dark in an hour
walking home on 5th is kinda crazy the boys all talk they might be lazy but their words cut deeper than a cougar's claws
(chorus again)
(bridge) the dinner dishes clink like a western dinner bell she's hurries with the clean-up so her mom won't begin to yell Miss Thompson says the way out is education but most here don't make it to graduation times are tough, wishes aren't enough even if you have the dedication
(chorus again)

by Vic Arnold 2010
Remember when we first met your smile lit up the stage that I stood on. Squinting through the gloom I smiled back without knowing who I smiled upon, But somewhere, somehow in that darkened room I saw the light that shone my way, And afterwards I took your hand and we ran off to where our future lay.
These memories of what is done. More of life behind us now than what has yet begun. Those faded photographs, like autumn leaves, Of people long forgotten who hide between the pages of our dreams.
(instrumental)
See that nice house on the hill? Can it be the same that we moved in? Remember how it used to be before we fixed it up good way back then? We would watch the children grow. It seemed like only yesterday, And now you smile and close your eyes, I hold your hand and feel you slip away.
These memories of what is done. More of life behind us now than what has yet begun. Those faded photographs, like autumn leaves, Of people long forgotten who hide between the pages of our dreams.

“An Answer To My Prayer” by Lynn Orloff
It used to be..... you needed me And all the world could see I needed you We had the kind of love that others would be jealous of Yet somehow over time, I slipped your heart and mind But I can wait and I can pray, hopin’ you’ll come back and say
That you love me, that you need me That you can’t make it through the day without me there If I could only hear you say those words again It would be an answer to my prayer
It used to be..... our hearts ran free And in that freedom I became your choice But now it seems I live with shattered dreams Though nothin’s goin’ right, I’m holdin’ on real tight Down here darlin’ on my knees, hopin’ that you’ll say to me
That you love me, that you need me That you can’t make it through the day without me there If I could only hear you say those words again It would be an answer to my prayer
Bridge I’m not gonna’ leave your comin’ back to chance I’ll do the best thing that I can, I’ll put it in God’s hands And I believe He’ll bring you back though I won’t know the day But when He does, I’ll know because I’ll hear those words you’ll say
That you love me, that you need me That you can’t make it through one day without me there Oh if I could only hear you say those words again It would be an answer It would be the sweetest answer It would be an answer to my prayer
That you love me (tagline)

A Voice Singing In The Dark by Glynda
Pa’d have me take the meals out back To the lil’ shack every day Lay them at the edge of the door Knock turn around and be on my way
I’d often look over my shoulder To see what I could see Two gloved hands takin the food back in’ I wanted to know more ,but I had to let this be
Chorus 1 Late into the night I’d be awaken by a voice Singing in the dark I’d hang out over my window sill Tried to see where the singing Was coming from, but still…….. Never could see a thing Just a voice singing in the dark
For as long as I can remember This is what was done’ From the first break of dawn Before the fall of the evening sun
I carried that food out back Go and pick up the empty dishes I oftened wondered what was pa hiding But I knew better than to go against his wishes
Chorus 2 Pa was gone to town one day I heard a loud thump, then a scream I ran outside, half way out the doorway A little ole’ man was lying there Face down in in the dirt Scared to death, I said a prayer This was the man that belonged to The voice singing in the dark
His chest began to hurt so he came outside for help, .collapsed outside the door…. He’d been badly burned in the coal mines ,didn’t want no one to see him no more. We got him to the hospital just in time
When he came home I too became his friend and late at night I‘d smile when I‘d hear…A Voice Singing In The Dark

Didn’t See It Coming by DonnaMarilyn
V1 Went out of my way Doing all I could Making sure you were happy And that things were good
V2 So when you confessed You'd been with her last night It knocked me for a loop ‘Cause it plain wasn’t right
Chorus Know what, babe, I didn’t see it coming When I fell for you I should have hit the ground running You were having me on Now everything's gone Yeah I didn’t see it coming
V3 I’m shaking my head About what just happened It's hard not to feel Confused and abandoned
V4 But can’t help thinking You wish you’d been true ‘Cause the pain in your eyes Says ‘I still love you’
Chorus Know what, babe, I didn’t see it coming When I fell for you I should have hit the ground running You were having me on Now everything's gone Yeah I didn’t see it coming
Bridge Here we sit at the kitchen table I know you hope I won’t be able To speak the words you see in my eyes But you can see what’s coming, it’s no surprise
Chorus Know what, babe, I didn’t see it coming When I fell for you I should have hit the ground running You were having me on Now everything's gone Yeah I didn’t see it coming
Outro Now everything's gone Yeah we didn't see it coming

A Place To Come Back To (c)2010 Greg C. Brown
I can't tell what you're thinking, There was once a time I could. You never had to say it, I always understood. And I could sense your feelings As though I could read your mind. But lately I don't know you Even after all this time.
I think you've gotten restless, Maybe lost out on some dreams. Are there things that you've been missing, Or places you've not seen? It shouldn't be surprising, As I wait each night alone, That you've become this stranger I have never really known.
CHORUS If you're looking for that greener pasture, I can only wish my very best for you. I hope you find what it is you're after, But if you don't, you know that's okay too, 'Cause you'll always have a place to come back to.
We went through changing seasons While we shared a single soul. All the storms that we have weathered, I thought would keep us whole. But somehow things are different, Yet I almost never saw The signals you were sending, Or the writing on the wall.
CHORUS If you're looking for that greener pasture, I can only wish my very best for you. I hope you find what it is you're after, But if you don't, you know that's okay too, 'Cause you'll always have a place to come back to.
BRIDGE I won't let my teardrops fall Over what I thought we had. I won't hold you with emotions, I'll just wish you luck instead.
REPEAT CHORUS If you're looking for that proverbial greener pasture... I can only wish my very best for you. I hope you find what it is you're after, But if you don't, you know that's okay too, 'Cause you'll always have a place to come back to.
You'll always have a place to come back to.

HE RIDES by Ricki E. Bellos
Daddy came from a broken home Shattered hearts and fractured bones Just a matter of time before he’d move on down the line Worked real hard to buy his first bike Cherry red with loud straight pipes Left without warning on a sunny Sunday morning Knew he’d never be sorry Just him and his Harley
He rides Out of the blue into Mama’s life He rides
Mama said when he rode to town Made her weak and her young heart pound It didn’t take them long though her pa said it was wrong She’d wrap herself around him tight Holding on with all her might Loved to ride behind him with loving arms to hold him Never said he’d stay But made it to my tenth birthday
He rides, he rides Into the night out of our lives He rides My Daddy rides He rides
I think about him more and more Wondering what he left us for Mama said as she died I had his likeness in my eyes Now I have a child of my own Who holds me in this one horse town Dreamed I followed in his steps and headed for the west I still have this photograph Of the bike, them and me in his lap
I ride, I ride Just ahead of the storm for the rest of my life I ride Watch me ride I ride
Wonder if Mama would have felt the same If Daddy rode up in a pickup truck

When she finally gets to dance
As a child she watched Fred Astaire movies on TV She would dance with him everynight but only in her dreams And dreams are as real as the love you feel When you're only 9 -years old
When she finally gets to dance I hope he sweeps her off her feet I hope he spins her 'round the ol' dance floor And makes her life complete When she finally gets to dance
Later on she learned that boys can be sometimes cruel and mean At the prom she danced the night away but only in her dreams 'Cause dreams are as real as the love you feel When you're almost seventeen
When she finally gets to dance I hope he sweeps her off her feet I hope he spins her 'round the ol' dance floor And makes her life complete When she finally gets to dance
A little conversation, a drink and a dance A little human affection, is that too much to ask?
As the years roll by their weight has left scars that were not there When she was only 9 years old and dreamt of Fred Astaire But dreams are as real as the love you feel When you're pushing thirty-four
When she finally gets to dance I hope he sweeps her off her feet I hope he spins her 'round the ol' dance floor And makes her life complete When she finally gets to dance

Just A Slice
When the mercury dips below The no kissing zone And I'm holding my own hand Cause I'm so alone
And I'm convinved I'll never know Happiness again The saddest movie ever made Just won't seem to end
CHORUS.... I'm not asking for the moon Just a slice Some tender " I love you's " Would be nice
I've waited for my lover but She don't come around I guess the one that loves me is No where to be found
CHORUS.... I'm not asking for the moon Just a slice Some tender " I love you's " Would be nice
Instrumental break...
Bridge..... Everybody want's to go to sleep smiling No one ever wants to cry
CHORUS.... I'm not asking for the moon Just a slice Some tender " I love you's " Would be nice
I'm not asking for the moon Just a slice I'm not asking for the moon Just a slice

I Don't Know You Anymore by Linda Adams
When you were small And life was easy Your biggest problems all could be Wiped away by me
With just one kiss But that was long ago Now you know just how much I don't know And time won't slow
CHORUS: Now it seems I don't know you anymore Who's this stranger pacing 'cross my floor Flying angry out the door And I can't make it better With kisses, cards, or letters I don't know what to do But how I miss that little boy I knew
2 When you were small Your heart was tender Is it still buried in you somewhere Waiting on a prayer
Are you still there? Where's the smile I knew? It seems all we ever do is argue About the rules
CHORUS
This isn't a little game we're playin' No one has to lose All my love is always stayin' Here with you
Even if it seems - (CH)
I still love you I love you.

See That Hillbilly by songcabinet
See that Hillbilly Comin' down the chimney He's all dressed up in fancy clothes Wonder if it's Jimmy Narh, he's too skinny So, it's probably my ol' Uncle Joe What's with the sack Must be somethin' with my sight I saw Reindeers and a sleigh On my roof top tonight
See that Hillbilly Comin' down the chimney Wonder if he brought something we could eat Hopin' for some Mexican Chili Or steaks, so we can grill'em But, if I know him right, we're not in for a treat Hey, you don't look like Joe Noo, I don't have milk and jelly rolls Tell me, what are those deers doing Up there on my roof?
Whoo, he jumped right back up And left a package, wrapped up in some shiny stuff Looks like bells and kids in the snow Hmm, that reminds me of something I once was told Back when I was a baby 'billy It slowly comes back to me now My dad said, "Sunny"
See that Hillbilly Comin' down the chimney Whaddayaknow he came back again this year You can call him Willie Or something more fulfilling But I don't want to hear no silly Christmas tales If what we are is Country You better get it right, Sunny Those Reindeers are nothin' but fillies And that big man with the beard Is nothin' but a Hillbilly, down here

Chorus I’m as gone as T-Rex, honey You can forget about me I ain’t living in history Counting rings ‘round petrified trees Analyze this, You’re Foot-lose-and-fancy-free I’m as gone as T-Rex, honey You can forget about me

A Little Too Long by Colin Ward
V1 We've been friends since we were kids, And I never thought much about you 'n me, All through school you were hangin' around, You were just the boy from down the street
V2 I started to notice when you grew up, You turned into a man with style, Good thing I paid attention 'cause I could have lost out, And missed you by a country mile
Rise On a perfect day I saw you in the park, When you took my hand I felt the first spark
Chorus With a hug just a little too long, And a kiss that knocked me off my feet, Saw that look in your eyes, and I realized, You're the one I'm gonna keep
V3 You weren't my high school sweetheart, You never asked me to dance, Now we're in our prime, don't wanna waste time, We're ready for a little romance
Rise Falling for you may seem a bit strange, I had some growing up to do, guess I've changed
Chorus With a hug just a little too long, And a kiss that knocked me off my feet, Saw that look in your eyes, and I realized, You're the one I'm gonna keep
Bridge Why aren't you taken, I really don't know, Better capture your heart, won't be moving too slow
Chorus

Run To Me (c)2010 Rod Coleman
Upbeat tempo
Lost in our teenage days Thinkin' we were cool Kissin' in my pick-up truck Parked behind the school Talkin' 'bout the future All those crazy dreams Tried to figure out our lives And laughed at everything
(run to me, run to me)
vs I've wanted to tell you For such a long time A day doesn't go by You're not on my mind Didn't say to make things better But couldn't let it go Cause' I've loved you forever And should have told you so
(run to me, run to me)
(Chorus) Run to me, when the world is undone Run to me, when you need a place to run When those tears clear your eyes enough to see, Run to me
vs Life's so complicated Not easy as it seemed Only thing that's never changed I want you here with me We both made some choices Messed up what we planned Run into these open arms And we'll start over again
(run to me, run to me)
(Chorus)

"TAKE A DEEP BREATH" Lyrics (C) 2010 by Stan Good, BMI
Too-Often Life is Movin' at a Break-Neck Faster Pace I Believe the First Time..was When I Saw His Face Wanted to Run Right-Up to Him..Be His "Forever-Fool" But I Had Learned The Hard Way..There IS One Simple Rule:
(CHORUS) "TAKE A DEEP BREATH" Yeah, SLOW-Things-DOWN! Pause..And REFLECT-A-BIT To SEE What's Goin'-ROUND! "TAKE A DEEP BREATH" Ya Need Some OXYGEN, My Friend Then..When You Have THOUGHT-a-BIT GO-AHEAD and PLUNGE RIGHT-IN! {Alt: JUMP}
I Remember Well..Back When We Thought..We Both WANTED KIDS Glad for ALL Those EXTRA Years We PONDERED What We DID~ For Years NO Little-Feet-PATTERED..'Cuz We Kept-It-COOL 'Got to Know OURSELVES Lots-BETTER..Before DIAPERS-SHOES-&-SCHOOL!
So..(REPEAT CHORUS)
(BRIDGE) BE CAREFUL What-You-WISH-FOR.. You'll GET IT, Given-TIME! ENJOY The ROUTE, Along The WAY The RUSH is IN Your MIND!
(SOLO TIME)
{OPTIONAL VERSE} Over Every Lifetime You'll Hear SCHEMES to Make You RICH SOME of Them ARE Real..But MOST are Just a B---TCH~ IF You Dig REAL Deeply, MOST('ll) Scare You Half-to-DEATH So, Before You Spend a CENT, TAKE a REAL DEEP BREATH...
Yeah..(REPEAT CHORUS)
(TAG) Yeah, Give It ALL Some DEEPER-THOUGHT.. BEFORE You PLUNGE RIGHT-IN!!--

Roy, Have you a link to any of Heather's demos so we can hear what she sounds like and what style she sings? I might submit a lyric if I have anything that fits her.

Congrats Dottie. Really good lyric. It was in my top 3 too. Thanks to Mr. Cooper for letting us all participate. Merry Christmas to all.
I have music for all of my songs and they vary from rock to country to folk and everywhere in between. (except rap)
