I have a JVC Everio HD camcorder....it has more battery life by a mile..... more storage (60gig internal hard drive as opposed to 2 gig SD card) and IMO a far better sound and video quality. It cost me slightly more than $300 but the difference is well worth it. It was the camera that shot my studio video both sound and audio (the audio was straight from the built in automatic mic). No worries about focus etc and the sound capture is excellent as can be heard. Just point and click...it does the rest. It also comes with its own editing software etc.

Zoom makes a great little audio recorder, I wish that they would have come out with the Q3HD a couple of months earlier. You can upgrade to larger SDHC cards (32 gigs) which make good storage devices. I have about 15 various sized SD cards that are filled with audio that represents evolutionary epochs. Same goes for my camcorder, I have a Sony handicam and about 5 cards filed with video.
A good tripod is essential equipment along with whatever you get.

I've got the Q3, not the HD. I like it a lot. I thought about getting the hi def version, but I'm not looking to go into video production, just to put some stuff on youtube for fun. The sound, however, is really good! Here's something we did on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWJlPoH75YcJust put it on the tripod on the table, turned it on and went up to play.
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Good stuff Mike. My attempt at Youtube is in my signature below. Nothing serious, but lots of fun.

Hi Rick... Thanks for your input. I've just ordered the Q3HD from Sweetwater, along with the tripod, bigger card, etc. Their return policy is real nice if you hate your new merchandise. When will you put more on YouTube? Here's my channel if you want to check out my originals. (They were done with a Canon FX). http://www.youtube.com/user/MartelKate
