Well, I hope you will stick with me because we are BACK TO ACAPELLA!!! But...now we know that anything is possible... I promise I have talked to local musicians and guitar teachers and have had no luck. I want to explain this song a little... I hear this with a simple guitar ala John Denver. I was speaking to a friend and was interested in an answer he gave me and I questioned whether his answer would have been different if he had ever had children and what he would be like if he had and therefore I got saddled with another song to throw at you , see, if I wasn't such a talker, I wouldn't have anything to write about!! Acapella Version: WHO WOULD HE BE on SoundClick 10/21 Thank you to Paul for crawling inside my heart and mind and playing along with me, a beautiful gift, I'm glad to share this song with you. With music added by Paul C.: WHO WOULD HE BE with music by Paul Who Would He Be © 2010 Who would he be, if he held a life in his arms and knew his love could give a heart its start What would he see, while his mind becomes amazed as he looks down to find his own face (chorus) If heaven opened up and pulled back the hands of time would he choose to take a chance and try another life could his days have been spent making his house a home then he wouldn't be alone who would he be Who would he be if he knew his hands could capture tears so that all the fears disappear What would he see, when the look of peace that comes with sleep makes him whole as he watches his dream (chorus) If heaven opened up and pulled back the hands of time would he choose to take a chance and try another life could his days have been spent making his house a home then he wouldn't be alone who would he be (chorus) If heaven opened up and pulled back the hands of time would he choose to take a chance and try another life could his days have been spent making his house a home then he wouldn't be alone who would he be

Tammy,
Your voice brings the emotion of the words to life. Easy flow and very nice listen. I enjoyed it. Acoustic guitar, definitely.

Deep thoughts... one different decision and we'd be different.. I probably wouldn't been Pres by now, lol.. Nice melody.

Can I call you President Lightening Louie? Or will just "Pres" do?
I am very intrigued by this idea of who would we all be if we had traveled down a different road....but the emotion it took to remember those special moments as a mother with my own children to write the verse was a very moving experience.
Thanks for giving it a listen!

The raw emotion of this piece kinda threw me into a tailspin of sorts. I can't even get half way through the song without the tears flowing down my face. It brings out the feelings of regret and what if... Being single and never married it makes me think of what life would be like if I had ever settled down and focussed on a family. What would he be?
Thanks for sharing, Danny

Hi Tammy,
It does make you stop and think, doesn't it? Very nice and tight writing. This is cool.

Yes, a very thought provoking song, Tammy. Nice! I've been married for 28 years but my wife and I don't have kids. We thought about it, of course, but we chose a different path. I don't regret the decision but there are times when I daydream about how much different life would have been. I suspect I wouldn't even recognize myself In any case, your song resonated very strongly with me Scott

Hi Tammy,
This is really touching. Very nice writing. I like songs that make you reflect and wonder...
I enjoyed the melody too….I can see how a simple arrangement like you mention would keep it personal and intimate.
Nice work in progress..

Hi Tammy, I admire your voice and your ability to sing such a strong a cappella! This is a very pretty melody with a stirring sentiment. You've made some guys cry here listening to it. That says something. Nice to meet you! I've been away! I started a cappella here too but: alas my pitch is not as great. I hurt eardrums Linda

Ricki,
That is one of my favorite lines as well, after I wrote it, even I was overwhelmed by it, even though I am sure it is every parents experience.
I promise I have been fiddling around with jamstudios and someone's going out the window, either me, the computer or the song, it is very frustrating and the chord progression has me dumbfounded, hey, we can't all be brilliant and talented.
Thanks for stopping by!!

Very nice, and a lyric lots of people will recognize themselves in.
I'd love to hear a complete version of this song. Just a guitar will probably be enough. Maybe some percussion, but nothing more - IMO.

Thank you, I do try my best to make the acapella as tolerable as I can to get the idea of the melody across.

Tammy, your voice is beautiful, and your vibrato mirrors that of Stevie Nicks in a way (which is GOOD). You have very nice control and good pitch. The song is emotional and thought provoking. I can see it being viable in perhaps a movie market or such.

Simply a beautiful peace of music. Thank you Tammy and I may have to move into your bathroom because the acoustics in there are sound fantastic. I'm with Polly on the movie soundtrack vibe. Every time I listen to one of your tracks I feel the urge to go and write the music for it. I think I need to start bringing a guitar in to work lol

Hi, Tammy! Believe me, "hearing a completed version" is my dream for ALL of my songs, but not one that comes true very often! I can relate! How about the two of us making a song together? Just for the fun of it - I don't have any commercial ambitions. I have hundreds of unfinished songs, and I'm sure you have hundreds of lyrics. Regards, Steffen

Steffen,
I would be happy to consider a collaboration with you.
I'm afraid I don't have hundreds of lyics, I just started singing and writing lyrics this February..
The lyrics I have all come with melodies which leaves me singing them without music.
I have plenty of songs just looking for music, but that means I need a musicaian who can do chord progression and "hear" the melody that I am singing and it isn't easy for most and I was warned early on that it would be difficult, but I'm one of those "beat the odds" kinda gals...
If there is a song you think you would like me to look at, then I will, I thank you for your kind offer.

Hi, Tammy! Working a musical arrangement around an existing vocal melody is not a new challenge for me. I've done that before, and as long as the melody works and isn't too much out of tune (which CAN be a problem with a-capella songs), I don't see any problem at all. Would you be willing to re-sing your song once the arrangement is solid? My time is a bit limited at the moment, but I love working on several different musical projects at the same time. Keeps me from getting bored by a song. So if you have any songs you think I would be able to turn into a full arrangement, send me the a-capella versions along with the lyric and any instructions you have for me. Be aware though that for certain genres I will need co-workers to replace my synth parts with real instruments (especially guitar). When I compose or arrange songs, I feel most comfortable with piano ballads and folk songs, but I'd love to try other genres (especially classic rock and progressive rock) too. Regards, Steffen

Steffen, Considering what you have said, I would like you to take a listen to one of my songs called "In Control", I have always heard it with more synthesized music, it might be interesting to you, it is a load of fun to sing. It is kind of pop/rock. I could send you a recording on how I hear the music, nothing too difficult. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1038504&content=musicI don't get commented on very often for being out of key, I don't think that will be a problem. I usually get the music and put it on my i-pod, record an acapella to it and send that and get it mixed with the music. "You're To Blame" is also fun angry rock tune. I would rather you really connect with something and feel it is right than me tell you what to do/not do. Tammy

Most likely Jesus, back for another shot at man's redemption, and absent from his father's mansion prepared for some of us in the sky. Or perhaps ourselves, moved ny your lyricsand song and setting off to do miraculous things, just because we "ARE" able. Great song Tammy, but then I would expect no less from you!!~~~MFB III

I like this a lot Tammy. I think it would be stronger if you used "If" as a title, though, as it's all about the counterfactual. Then the title would work after each line.. Then you also solve the problem of overusing your title. A&R usually have trouble with titles outside the chorus.
Like this:
If heaven opened up and pulled back the hands of time would he choose to take a chance and try another life could his days have been spent making his house a home then he wouldn't be alone If

Hi Tammy.
Love the title and this line in the song.
"If heaven opened up and pulled back the hands of time would he choose to take a chance and try another life"
It's got a very Contemporary Christian song feel to it. Was that your intent? I think it has got good potential.
Best of luck with it! I know how hard it is to find collaborators that can help bring a song to life. I wish I could sing as well as you do. Your voice brings a good feeling of honesty and vulnerability to the song.

Tammy, Very touching song and your voice is so beautiful! As for me, I hate to think of "who I'd be" had it not been for my children. My heart is changed forever! Please accept my interpretation of this beautiful song. Here is my recording of me playing acoustic guitar along with you a'capella recording. It goes out of sync a time or two but I hope that the idea comes through http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9780515Thank you for writing it! -Paul

Andy, Thank you for the encouragement. Did you happen to notice how well she stayed on key. And tempo... She was right on the key of D from the start. No tuning or capo required. That is very impressive to me! I don't know if I am out of line to leave this recording on the board or not. I did it without her consent (with the best intentions I have to say) but I have not heard from Tammy yet, so I don't know if it's appropriate to leave it on the boards or not. You seem to know her better than me, so please let me know if I am just being too paranoid, or not. I was looking at an earlier post that you did and it made me chuckle, on 2 points : Simply a beautiful peace of music. Thank you Tammy and I may have to move into your bathroom because the acoustics in there are sound fantastic. I'm with Polly on the movie soundtrack vibe. I think I need to start bringing a guitar in to work lol At one of my jobs, I actually had an old beater acoustic in the corner, that I would occasionally strum at lunch time. It was rather nice =) Also, your comment about recording in the bathroom reminded me of something I'd heard on a Les Paul documentary. In his early recording days, he and his wife would try every room in the house (recording songs...) and many of their "released" recordings were from the oddest of places. The kitchen, bathroom, etc... If anyone concurs that I should remove my recording from this board, please say so. As I'd said: my intentions are pure. I just want to help this song to blossom. Thanks -Paul
