Good that they do a CD now. The manual that I got with my Tascam Porta-Studio (v. 2.04, I think) was incomprehensible. I had to find a manual to tell me how to read the manual--and that was incomprehensible, too. And TEAC (the manufacturer) weren't any help--they had discontinued production (and support), and wanted everybody to buy the new model (of course). I finally found a users' group, and they have been a lot of help. But I mostly figgered out how to use the thing on my own. Lots of luck.
What's yours record to? A CD? (I hear some of them do that now.) Mine records to a digital-camera chip that will hold one song. Easy to upload to the 'puter, though; "Alice" the 'puter simply treats the Tascam as a portable hard drive (which, considering the digital-camera chip, I guess it is).

HiDee BroJoe~! Yeah, JUST when I'd mastered Reel-to-reel, along came CDs & Digital. And (Gag-Me-with-a-Spoon) Computers!!!
An ad-agency buddy GAVE me this TEAC Rig..which came with NO Instructions other'n "Good Luck!"... Sat here for Months, right next to the Printer I've yet to Learn HOW.
So I Googled-away, & VOILA..for a mere $50 I can GET the cussed CD to open all the Idiot-Locked Doors that came with this "Gift". THINK it has a Flash-Memory that can hold 12 Songs (On a Perfect Day..of course!) & I'm DYIN' to covert some of my CDs to MP3 & transport 'em off to MP3 Feedback board for proper-Flailin'!
And..who knows..maybe SOMEDAY I'll learn some of the Instruments I've ALSO accumylated over the years (Flea Markets can provide Amazing Stuff...cheaply!)and metamporphose into onea those Dreaded "Singer-Songwriter" Dudes. (Lyricists get So Little Respect..heh!) MY computer has an UN-Printable "Name"..but hope it can learn to get-along with this piece of equipment. (What kinda Music Program do ya recommend for Total Neophyte-Idiots?)
Thanks, Amigo, for bringing to life Many a Gleam in This Lyricist's Eye..in the past. & yeah..I'll need a LOT of Luck to find this CD for about the $25 I'd LIKE to find it FOR...(TEAC's made this model "Obsolete" a few years-ago.) But it's New-in-the-Box...waiting for me to Properly AGE it a wee-bit!
Thanks for Your Kind Visit, Amigo! Stay Tuned! Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

"Parents are notorious for telling you not to do something, but not telling you WHAT to do instead. So here are my thoughts. Don't bite the hand that feeds you, give it a manicure. Don't burn your bridges, go out and build more! And of course, Don't run with Scissors, use them to cut out your press clippings!" -Brian Austin Whitney
