Here's another one in the blue theme - I got lots of pictures recently at a balloon festival --- so there's a slide show in the making to accompany this.....

All your thoughts are welcome and appreciated..... for the bass encouragers out there ( yes you Kevin) I added a basic bass part --- please be gentle - I'm a beginner - but your constructive thoughts are welcome. Thanks !

I think you guys should get married, by the way.
You know I have been reading this song writing book lately and it has extensive interviews with a bunch of writers. And I read about this writer from the sixties and seventies named Laura Nyro. Have you ever heard of her? She died of cervical cancer in 1997. But she wrote "and when I'm gone" "wedding bell blues" "Eli's coming" and a million more.
Anyway the interview made my look at her style and art completely differently and really appreciate it.
And . . . this kind of reminds me of her. It has that simple sweetness she would employ on occation.
The harmony is cool but I think Calvins voice needs some bass EQed out of it. Combined with the guitar it kind of overwelms my speakers.

Laura Nero is/was a gem - I did not realize that she passed away - my that's so sad. I know of her work - yes - and I know that she put her art in the background - to have children - much like myself and many others...... her contemporary Joni became my musical mentor possibly Only because she was more prolific as well as innovative - but she also gave her child up for adoption rather than be a single mom. I understand that - so the passion went into song..... When I started working on singing a few years ago the coach that I had pointed me to Laura Nero - that my songs and singing style leant themselves to Laura -- I protested because I felt that if I tried to model my musical style around one artist - by mimicking her work as covers - as I would be then- it would narrow my audience.... so I refused to learn her songs as suggested ......... oh well we are who we are - an interesting comparison to me.... ha ha ....

okay on Calvins bass/ eq --- are you sure that it's not MY BASS guitar ??????

Joni Mitchell, is who I assume you mean by Joni, is my favorite too. What a brilliant artist!
Mixing is so hard. What sounds one way on your computer speakers, sounds another way on your home stereo, and another way in your car. Perhaps others with chime in with their opinions of the mix. But to my ear and speakers it sounds like the lows range is too full and it is distorting a bit.

Okay -- I greatly appreciate your sounds and Ears !!! I DO seem to hear a WHOLE LOT MORE with these new Head phones........ mine were Very Old !! ; )

Calvin and Joice. This is typical unique and fun stuff that I have come to enjoy from you guys!

I like the hook...it works...the music bass seems to be a bit overpowering the vocals, or something. I can't put my finger on it, but other than that, I really enjoyed it!!! Good job guys!

We did make a few more tweaks to the sound ... but I'm gonna post it with the slide show.... mostly we adjusted in other ways because we like the bass... but your comments and others were helpful in figuring what we needed to do better... so thanks so much for your help and ears ! jm

Joice, your vocal sounds especially pretty on this. Nivlac, yours gets lost a bit...so I'd love to either hear it pumped up a bit.

Nice work. Dido pretty much what everybody else has said. It has a great "feel" to it and gives you that excited and timeless feeling of doing something new (like a balloon ride) with someone you are really into.

The back ground vocals could be tightened up a little, but they get the point across. As far as the mixing goes, well, that's a whole different art form than songwriting. Capturing a heartfelt performance and good sound is better than a good mix (IMHO).

My deep apology for somehow missing this one Joice and Calvin. Nice, catchy tune and I like the mood of the lyric with the music.
