I just rediscovered this long forgotten song I wrote with Chad G.Smith back around 2001. I was listening through a stack of unmarked CDs to see what was on them and here it was. It was the last song we wrote together before Chad slipped off the face of the Earth seemingly. I was gonna do a completely new production but out of nostalgia for the good ole days with Chad I let the original rough work print carry the day. I do remember I had allergies at the time and you can hear me sniffing a few times between stanzas and it has string squeeks galour. It's a querky story that only Chad could write. I composed the music and contributed a few lines here and there but it's pure Chad for those who remember him. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9175564We Spanked a Good Night Out of the Moon (c) 2010 Steven M. Biederman/Chad G. Smith My sun baked milk shake was sitting in a puddle In the middle of a picnic table where I was sucking sugar from a melon I was sharing with my sister and her best friend Mabel When Mabel goosed me googley eyed You should have seen my seeds take flight Muh my my my Muh my my my Muh my my Summer The Mop Chop quartet was belting out a number as me and my pals whistled Dixie I was champing like a stallion to the rhythm of a fiddle When Mabel up and kissed me And though it came as no surprise She kind of had me hypnotized Muh my my my Muh my my my Muh my my Summer We danced all night sang by the fire and slapped the silver off the spoons That summer night When all was said and done We spanked a good night out of the moon We spanked a good night out of the moon My all time cool lines were falling like the pedals Of a pollen laden sweet magnolia I was busting buttons like the Wizard in the land of Oz Hands like Casanova Some days life sure fills your cup and when it does you suck it up Muh my my my Muh my my my Muh my my Summer We danced all night sang by the fire and slapped the silver off the spoons That summer night When all was said and done We spanked a good night out of the moon We spanked a good night out of the moon I spoke like a poet, tryin' to make her swoon delivering all my favorite lines But I sputtered like spokes in a bag of balloons Muh moo moo moo moo Muh my my my... Heart skipped a stroke, stung like shrapnel I said "Mabel it's been good to know ya" I was frozen like a possum in the headlights of her old man's squeelin' Chevy Nova Young love's a crazy thing It feels good even when it stings Muh my my my Muh my my my Muh my my Summer We danced all night sang by the fire and slapped the silver off the spoons That summer night When all was said and done We spanked a good night out of the moon We spanked a good night out of the moon Muh my my my Muh my my my Muh my my Summer Muh my my my Muh my my my Muh my my Summer

My wife's calling me for breakfast Stevie so I have to make this a little short. Man, that's one helluva song. Love the lyric - very inventive and a little wacky. And the music is a great fit to it - kind of old timey with a happy nostalgic feel to it. Has to be one of my favorites of yours - gonna go download it. Scott

Hi Stevie
I like this one a lot -- it the beginning the delivery made me think of Bruce Cockburn -- that's meant as a big compliment.. the string squeaks feel like a live performance and add to it ! Good song. jm

Listened twice. Laughed even harder the second time. And this: "I sputtered like spokes in a bag of balloons". How refreshingly antinormal! Don't change it. It's imperfect just like it is.

What a cool little tune! I think Dan said Roger Miller, and I couldn't place it as I was reading, but I think he pegged it. Very clever lyric and you did a wonderful job with the music. I love this part:
I spoke like a poet, tryin' to make her swoon delivering all my favorite lines But I sputtered like spokes in a bag of balloons
Maybe Chad will see this thread and come back for a visit.

Hi Stevie B, This is such fun! You put just the right music to this clever lyric. It must have been hard to keep a straight face while singing these words and sniffling! Wacky and inventive, worth another look, I think. Ricki

This is so cute, Stevie. I like it.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Thanks Scott. Chad wrote some pretty obscure lyrics and most of them were homeruns. I was lucky to have been able to co-write several tunes with him. Wish I knew how to get in touch with him now. I've tried every way I know how short of calling in the FBI but to no avail so far. I appreciate it as usual.

Very cool tune... Catchy and clever with a great attitude.
The only nit I really have is the use of the name 'Mabel'... Sure sounds like great grandma's name?
Regardless, this is a really good tune. I bet if a major artist recorded it they'd change that name, but someone should definitely pick this one up!
Peace,
Ian

Silversteinesque. Jonathan, Thanks for the listen and comments. I can only take credit lyrically to a couple of lines in the verses but I did write the bridge, which you quote, myself. When I was a kid we used to clothes pin baseball cards to the spokes of our bikes to make it sound like a motor. Then we used balloons which when the spokes hit the frame, made it sound kind of like like a Harley. That's where that line came from. Anyway, thanks again for the listen and review. Steve
