Hi Gang - Haven't posted anything in quite a while. Been slowly trying to complete the new Instrumental CD and a few vocal tunes that have been sitting around for four years or so. Next week John Daubert and I will be heading to NYU Center Of Neurology to seek out ANY kind of help we can get me I'll be laying in the MRI machine AGAIN this week as well for a few hours thinking about MUSIC of course. Got to love doing cover tunes though, both fun & no lyrical thinking Here is DIFFERENT DRUM - Written by Mike Nesmith yes the "Monkee" sung by Patch. Different Drum 2:58www.substudiomusic.com/DifferentDrum.mp3You and I travel to the beat of a different drum Oh can't you tell by the way I run Every time you make eyes at me Wo-oh You cry and moan and say it will work out But honey child I've got my doubts You can't see the forest for the trees Oh don't get me wrong It's not that I knock it It's just that I am not in the market For a boy who wants to love only me Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty All I'm saying is I'm not ready For any person place or thing To try and pull the reins in on me So good-bye I'll be leaving I see no sense in this crying and grieving We'll both live a lot longer If you live without me Oh don't get me wrong It's not that I knock it It's just that I am not in the market For a boy who wants to love only me Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty All I'm saying is I'm not ready For any person place or thing To try and pull the reins in on me So good-bye I'll be leaving I see no sense in this crying and grieving We'll both live a lot longer If you live without me

So upbeat and refreshing :-) Suddenly I imagined You and John running the streets of New York waving your hands up in the air :-)
All the best Jan

All the best Jan Jan Thanks. That's a much better image than me grabbing on to John so I can even walk in that mayhem, and him trying to fight the sounds of the city ringing his ears. I'm a tad freaked out, people with Vertigo & Tinnitus should stay OUT of New York City No matter how I feel I'll be sure to raise a fist in the air that day for you! Thanks

Sounds great Mike. Enjoyed it as much as the Stone Poneys with Linda R. as the vocalist. Maybe even better.

Mike,
This has always been a favorite song of mine. Patch did an outstanding job, even rivaling Ms. Ronstadt's rendition.
Good luck to you, and John, in NYC. Your time for answers is long overdue. Sending good wishes your way.

Hey thanks you guys.... Yeah we cranked this up and it sounded pretty darn cool.. She is very happy with it.. Not bad for one night. What I like about it is it sounds so "un-computer" recorded. This is live city.. We didn't even use a click track Yes I can tell where it moves time wise, but it feels great so it's cool... Tomorrow I have the joy of spending all afternoon in the MRI machine.. but with my favorite way to do it "the needle with the constrast IN" Hooray! 1- When I see this NYU Neurologist Monday he'll be seeing me for the first time. I will have a one page typed report with all medical FACTS & notes concerning my problem. Including brief history, symptoms etc.... 2- On CD disc & written report - Cervical Spine MRI, Thorasic Spine MRI, Lumbar Spine Report. Brain/Head MRI with Contrast.. CT Scan report, Neck Flex XRAY report. 3- I want to look at the MIDDLE EAR on this MRI and either PROVE it's part of the problem or THROW IT OUT forever. Because if one more person tells me about inner ear or ear anything I'm gonna lose it and whack somebody LOL.... 4- Stop waving fingers in my face, and making me squeeze hands, and checking my leg resistance and arm, hand resistance.. Trust me if you put your neck in my hands I can "End You" Give me a freaking diagnosis already... Injury? or Disease" One all causing problem? or Multiple problems?I usually have my hopes up. But for the first time ever they are not up at all.... NYU or not... How I feel now is like nothing i ever could have imagined.. I CAN"T stop the tipping sinking sensation. my body is SHOT and it wants to completely take over my head and heart... I wish it luck! Rock On Sub

Hi Shirley
Thanks sooooo much. We enjoyed the song very much. I love doing different types of songs.
Actually I get some ringing in my ears but it's friend and JPFer John Daubert who has the Tinnitus not me. I have a terrible chronic dis-equilibrium/balance disorder. Along with it extreme neck & back stiffness, weakness, soreness & pain. Been dealing with it for 13 years now, as it just gets worse.
So I'm off to see my 46th doctor Monday...
I was wondering do you have a soundclick or myspace page or someplace to hear your songs? Look forward to hearing what your up to.
PS- I'm a BIG Trekie.. Star Trek original series. Didn't know that about Bill Shattner. Bummer! Wonder how he has been dealing with it all these years.
Thanks for the kinds thoughts & words, it's sweet and I appreciate it.

Michael Nesmith the "musician" Monkee. Love his song "Joanne". He dabbled in TV comedy and decided to get out of show biz. He can afford it.
I like your version of the song. Patch has a natural country rock voice. Better than LR. Her accent sounds almost southern. The original was recorded when country rock was getting popular, guys like Chris Hillman, Clarence White, Bernie Leadon were around. The LA southern rock crowd. Sounds like you're using Midi samples, I may be wrong, but it sounds good.
I can't add any more well wishes or comments about your medical condition then what's already been said by others but I truly wish that you eventually get a correct diagnosis and real treatment that will at least improve your quality of life. I'm praying for full recovery most of all.
I've read your stories of being a longshoreman, hell of a position for a talented musician and producer to be in. I was an iron worker when I was 21. I was a beam walker. Had to pull up girders with a rope and walk them across the beam with another guy holding the other end. One slip up and we both fall. Like a high wire act. We were cocky and proud of what we could do. The only injury I got was a burn on my ankle. I was straddling a beam about 30 feet high and burning a hole in the iron with an acetylene torch. The hole dropped out right into my boot. It seemed like forever for me to untie the boot and shake it off. The damage was done. It was heavy work but I never suffered any after effects.
You may have explained this before, but did you belong to a union at the time? Do they help pay the medical bills?

Hi Mike I like this it has everything going for it. I can hear the production......it sounds simple yet there is a ton of stuff going on. Great job and Patch did the vocals proud. I bet she can sing just about anything. That Nesmith bloke was very under rated. I heard stories about the Monkees and how he hated some of the stuff they had to do. He could write better songs than they were forced to record. It caused a lot of friction. I hope all goes well and the doc finally comes up with something to help you. Best of luck Monday.

You have to have hope, Bro. Ricki Thanks Rick & Riki I'm not doing much singing these days, accept for Louis's Angels song. I have ZERO hope about this doctor tomorrow, this is the first time I have felt this way in the 13 years I been going to see doctors about it. But i appreciate the encouragement.

MIke S Thanks Mike good to see ya around... Yeah I was already frustrated in 1999 when an ENT told me after my sinus surgery there would be a 50% chance my problem would be gone.. Eight weeks with my nose spread across my face and ZERO! That was 11 years ago! Thanks Mike

You may have explained this before, but did you belong to a union at the time? Do they help pay the medical bills? Hi Ben Thanks... Yes and my union was the first ones to screw me... See I need 700 hours in a year to get medical benefits. When i went out of work due to this problem I was shy about 24 hours so I went/crawled back to work near the end of the year and make it to 700 hours. My pay stub read 700 hours... A few weeks layer (new year) I go the doctors and they say "you have no coverage" I call the union and ask WHY? they say "you have 692 hours and your 8 hours short,. I say NO here I'm faxing you my pay stub. They see it and say "Oh no, the last eight hours counts towards next years benefits you only have 692 I say "What? Been with you 17 years and never heard of that, okay I know guys who needed 200 hours to make 1000 hours for full benefits and they bought the 200 hours. I would like to BUY those eight hours,, They say - Oh no you can buy 200 to make 1000 hours but you can't but 8 to make 700 hours... I say - OKAY ARE YOU MAKING THIS UP AS WE GO ALONG"! But Ben - I'm passed all that now, and have to fight for every thing every step of the way... I KNOW my work is what damaged me but can't prove it, especially with NO DIAGNOSIS EVER given to me. What i would like to do tomorrow is BRING a 300 pound truck tire, a 50 pound lug gun and that 120 pound jackhammer and sit it RIGHT in front of the doctors office. And say OKAY now deal with these for eight hours today. Move them out of your way ALL DAY. Oh but wait it's 20 degrees out open ALL your windows NOW..Now TELL me this didn't cause my problem Biotch Just one day with this thing in his lap.... Never mind years and years and years.... There just not grasping the "TIRE" concept and how I was lifting them 40 hours a week since I was 22 the problem started getting bad when I was 32... I was done by 39 Iron Worker wow, yikes... I did alot of welding in the last few years i was there. Could also cause problems... I just can't believe that these doctors especially in the past FIVE years have watched me crawl into there office, holding the walls, can't stand up or sit up straight, totally bent over in pain and stiffness and NOTHING! They say and do nothing!

Thanks again all you guys, thanks for the prayers Shirley... I'm gonna try to get some sleep (hopefully) and I'm off to NYU. How out of it have I been? This will be my first trip to MANHATTAN since the 90's... Crazy city for someone with vertigo like symptoms... I'm so prepared, man this doctor has DEFINITELY not met anyone like me in his life, that's for sure. I will take a back seat approach and not speak too much... Let him think. But he has no idea how in tune I am. And how I'm no sheep! I'll be back!

Excellent work, Mike. Great stuff.
I always loved this song. It takes me back to the Brown Shoe in Chicago right after Linda Ronstadt left Stone Ponies. She was on the bill with Jackson Browne who had the hit with "Doctor My Eyes." They shared the same backup band and these guys played both artist's songs just like the records but with terrific feel. Linda said we'd be hearing from this band in the future, they were called the Eagles.
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Thanks guys... Randy I'll PM you back. Mike D - Thanks for stopping in and checking it out... Big Jim, Michele as well Calvin Follow Up... Went to NYU and it was a joke... I'll never see another Neurologist again!!! If I was as close minded un-passionate and stiff as an MD doctor with my music, I would totally SUCK! And instead of helping every single one I have ever made contact with accept for one or two clueless people. I would have helped no one...

Very good cover Mike...Loved it! You're a wonderful musician.
Re your body condition have you tried Chinese doctors and accupuncture?
I believe a few weeks of massages by qualified Chinese masseuaes would do the trick! Of course to get the good ones you have to go to China. It's not very expensive...I pay about $70 for a 3 hour massage in Shenzhen (just outside Hong Kong). I used to have a back that they say is as hard as a board! After a few sessions I am pretty supple now.
Cheers,
Stan

She is fabulous. I rarely like covers of famous songs - and I love Linda's version of this song. But this one is terrific - better than Linda's.
