Hey JPF, Great news! We are very excited to launch the first ever marketplace app on Facebook dubbed: Music Store. With Music Store, you'll be able to buy and download millions of songs from Facebook without leaving the site. You can also share albums and talk with your friends while shopping. You don't even have to sign up at WaTunes to use the app and its totally usable. Below are links to our press and the link to the App if you are a Facebook user. Give it a shot and let me know what you think! Press Release Music Store

Howdy Kevin, Gus here. Good Luck on this venture, sounds ambitious .............Wish you all the Best.................Gus Hi Gus, Thanks for the feedback. This is really a great idea for music discovery. Now we've made it even easier for musicians to promote their music using Facebook. Its easy to promote and sell your music to your Facebook friends, family, and fans. We're working on some really cool updates that'll make the widespread of your music even more awesome. Though we are sad that we exit the digital distribution, this is definitely a huge turn in the right direction for indies & majors alike. Let me know what you think of our application.

Hi Kevin,
Nice to see you still in thre game. I'm not on Facebook personally so I am not up on what "apps" are available. (My wife has a page though). Are you saying that Watunes owns the ONLY app for Facebook where you can buy music? Can you clarify that for me? If that is true, then kudos to you.

Congrats Kevin!
This seems like a brilliantly simple idea. I don't play out much these days, and don't have the energy to put together a whole new CD, but it would be nice to record a song now & then and then let my Facebook Friends have a listen...It's just WAY too convenient not to.
I'll have to give WaTunes a more thorough looking over when I have the time, but having taken just a quick tour through it, I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
Well done!

Brian Hey Brian, Thanks. WaTunes is growing very rapidly with the new Facebook App Music Store. When it comes to music apps, Facebook has hundreds of thousands. Most popular are iLike and Lala (which is now being shut down). WaTunes Music Store App is the first app to incorporate a simple, easy-to-use, full fledge storefront. Now with catalog of every independent distributor and major labels Universal, EMI, and Warner, we're put in even more stronger position to cater independent musicians. With this in mind there are A LOT of advantages with using Music Store both as a independent/major musician and a fan. These includes: No WaTunes Account Required: Meaning you don't have to sign up or register at WaTunes to use Music Store. You can gain access to the application, search for your favorite songs, and begin making your purchase. Easy Promotion for Artists: As more musicians are beginning having their own Facebook page, we've made it easy for them to transition their users to buy music directly off of Facebook without leaving the site. Because Music Store is an app, Facebook users are able to chat with their friends while they are making their purchases. Artist can drive fans to Music Store by sharing their own albums to any social medium (Facebook, MySpace, Hi5, Blogger, Twitter, Gmail, etc.).

LaLa.com is being shut down because Apple bought them and I've heard that they are going to incorporate it directly into iTunes.
So can you explain a bit more about what makes your store different? Also, let me rephrase my original question: Do you own the name "Music Store" as an app. for facebook? Is "Music Store" entirely owned/controlled by WaTunes? Is it something that people must buy to use, or is it free to use? It seems like you might have a big deal and I'd like to understand a bit better what it is etc. so I can fully explain it to JPF members and other folks I know in the industry. I am really playing catch up at the moment.
Thanks,
Brian

Kevin I was using the app from reverbnation that is build into facebook that sounds like it does the exact thing ... How does yours differ from reverbnation's app they they had for several years?
can you explain more, you got me intrigued. Also the danger with a facebook app is that they app can access private material on facebook (one that has been a hacker target of recent) . In order to get folks to use it what security or assurance is in place that the app is not designed to hack . I am not questioning you in anyway, I am tabling it for discussion because you will be asked by those who don't know you or other forums where you try to get more users. These are just some questions I am asking to help you out.
Thanks Dan

Here is the problem with any third party apps on facebook. Most people tend to use the same passwords (It is a huge mistake but they do it) third party apps are easily created. I do them in my sleep (Former Tenured Computer Science Professor) Once you authorize a third party app, if that app is malware they own your facebook info ... next they move on to your ebay account and paypal account working the password from facebook or other links from facebook ... (PLEASE note, I am not talking about you guys, I am talking apps in general. This is the problem you guys may run into when trying to get users. I actually shut down my facebook, I just had way too many issues with people saying they were someone I know only to find out it wasn't it was actually a hacker ... There is no verification of identity on facebook ...

Hi Dan, Awesome question. When you mention ReverbNation's app, I'm assuming you're talking about their "Store" app. One of the key difference that sets us apart is the format of the app. ReverbNation's "Store" is setup as a DIY merchandise storefront which enables its artist to sell music that they have on Reverb in a mini-store format. The "Music Store" app operates as an actual music storefront (similar to that of iTunes) as a place to easily share and display albums on every users Facebook profile (artists & fans alike). Think of it as a first step to sharing content on a more viral scale with little to no effort (easy promotion). Unlike Reverb, Facebook users do not have to sign up at WaTunes to use the app. Your fans can simply visit your album page on Music Store, listen to samples, make their purchases, and download high quality MP3s On-Demand. can you explain more, you got me intrigued. Also the danger with a facebook app is that they app can access private material on facebook (one that has been a hacker target of recent) . In order to get folks to use it what security or assurance is in place that the app is not designed to hack . I agree with privacy & security regarding application authorization. It can be dangerous if private information is moved and hacked. When we build the app, we strongly saw the security provisions of the app. This is why I can safely say that we don't receive any profile information from Facebook. As a result, the app is widely open and is instantly accessible when viewing the Music Store application profile. Another great factor is that the app is built within a security encryption on our private servers. This enables us to create a stable and secure environment around the application.

Thanks,
Brian Hi Brian, Yes, we wholly own the "Music Store" application and the name "Music Store". The best part about Music Store is that it is FREE to use! You can use "Music Store" to search for your favorite songs, listen to samples, and when you want, buy your favorite songs in high quality MP3s. What makes us really different than other apps and stores is our approach on introducing an effective buying mechanism in Facebook ecosystem. This enables us to enhance the Facebook strategies of musicians and labels alike. Imagine that your fans are able to make your music go viral through Facebook just by them liking and enjoying your music? Music Store will be an app that will be able to accomplish that and theres a lot more to come!
