I'm in the market for awesome sounding synth pad samples. Any recommendations will be appreciated. I'll check them all out. So far NI Absynth5, Symphobia, and Omnisphere have been recommended. Anyone have first hand experience with these? Thanks for your help! Best, John

John, Can you be more specific for your use. These tools excells in different areas. Nothing beats Omnisphere for synthpads, and it's pretty much the industry standard. But everyone also has it, so just using the presets can be tricky, as it'll be somewhat recognizeable when everyone submits work with the same sounds. http://www.spectrasonics.net/instruments/omnisphere.php Absynth is great for dark ambient sounding things, but can be somewhat limited for other things. http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/absynth-5/ Symphobia is the new industry standard for lush strings, I think. The expence is steep, but many are going for this now. http://www.projectsam.com/Products/Boxed-Products/ Also Evolve is widely used for filmwork, I think. http://www.heavyocity.com/Evolve/I would say all of these are a regular part of the industry pallette, and I don't think it's about choosing, it's about getting them to be able to level with the competition. Related to these I have Absynth 3 and Atmosphere (prior version to Omnisphere), but I've been researching this for months and have listen to what other composers working in tv/film, have. Im going to get Omnisphere, Symphobia and Evolve when I get a more powerful computer, but I probably won't upgrade Absynth. I'd say you won't be dissapointed with Omnisphere. It's a very safe bet, the broadcast quality for tv/film submissions are there right out of the box, and it will keep you excited and busy for ages.

I'm leaning towards Omnisphere, though someone told me it uses a lot of horsepower. Just looking for a variety of moody pads. Mostly dark I guess. Best, John

John the pro studio I use has Omnisphere it is pretty good...some great sounds and presets.....50 gig of storage needed though..... it is so meaty it messes with O/S causing latency or blips in memory usage. Tip.... store it on external hard drive and disable when not in use....Same prob with Ivory piano. Come to think of it the guys in the studio have just about everything but very little ever gets used. We all have favs and use them mostly. I can spot Virtual guitar sound and patterns a mile away. LOL

LOL Thanks Jim! Yeah, I've been warned about needed extra horsepower with Omnisphere. I found some good synth pads within my Logic Pro today. Didn't even know they were there - duh. I just posted a track titled "Blue". I mixed some Kirk Hunter strings and the EWQL trombones, Fr. horns with the pad. I'm pleased how it blended. Best, John

It pays to explore thoroughly what you already have....we found almost by accident some great stuff on Cubase 5 that came with it.....We did not know it was there and were using other expensive plugins that do the same job.
