Dear Brian,
Great news about your return and positive recovery. Viewing the replies from your friends and well wishers has been wonderful. Being new to JPF, I'm so pleased and appreciative to see all the POSITIVE postings and feedback from your extensive and dedicated membership. You're definitely "THE MAN", who's been doing a lot of good for a lot of people for a lot of years. GREAT JOB!
All the best, Jim Ridder

Hi Folks,
I am back out of the hospital. I had a short revisit this week. I am going to try to send a newsletter out today if my darn fingers can find enough keys!
Hope you're all doing well.

The word on the street says Your almost back in the saddle I guess for now that simply means Your riding somewhat straddled Don't rush recouperation Follow the doctor's course Until your sitting firmly Reigns in hand back on the horse And when we hear that YEE HAH And see ya round the bend We'll know you're back on duty And welcome you good friend! Hi Folks,
I am sorry for the radio silence. I am left handed and having lost a great deal of the use of it I am finding typing maddening. I am doing physical therapy and mostly doing well all things considered. I've had a few set babacks and often a good few hours is quickly followed by a nasty reminder that I narrowly escaped by a narrow margin and it wasn't without cost. My frustration is significant at times and the severe pain and discomfort is relentless on a level I could never have imagined. But I remind myself every day how lucky I am to be here in any shape and I truly do appreciate even the worst of times.
Thanks for the well wishes! I have no idea what the future holds for me right now, but I will keep JPF going as long as I am around and hopefully even beyond. It and all of you are just way too important to me to do anything else!
I am looking forward to the Super Bowl and to spending some quality time with Linda next week when she is off work. That's about as far out as my future planing allows.
Go Colts! (Unless you're Brenda or one of our other Cajuns.. then Go Saints!)
Brian

Brian,
You've got a lot of prayers for healing. It's great to hear from you. Rest up for the Super Bowl, it's going to be a good one. Manning's playing great, a few more yards and a couple of championships away from being called the best of all-time. Remember, he QB'd at Tennessee LOL.
All the Best, Mike
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Howdy Brian, Gus here. I'm new enough that we have never talked before. I got you on the frustrating hand thing, because I'm recovering from a stroke in May 2009, And this family you have built here, has played a significant role in my recovery. At one point, the doctors were asking my wife if I was an organ donor. I'm very lucky to have found JPF, & in the 4 months and over 900 posts, I have built friendships that will last my lifetime. Thank you for this gift you provided me, & please follow me down this wonderful road to a speedy full recovery........Gus

OK, Brian, I know I haven't been posting much in recent months, but you really didn't have to go to such lengths to get me to start checking this website daily! Seriously -- I am very glad to read your most recent post. Do rest, but stay in touch with what feeds your soul. It will help to heal your body. You've got immeasurable prayers on your behalf, and when you feel the frustration and pain, take a breath and feel the prayers of this huge community. And as the Saints have taught us - anything is possible! Brenda

Hi Brian ! I can't help but feel sad at what you're experiencing in your life...You are one of the smartest and kindest people that I've ever known, and you have affected SO many people in a positive way that it's not even funny ! You have given me great advice at times, and always have an honest answer ! I wish for you, that you can regain everything...I KNOW that you'll work hard toward that goal...Sending you some good energy from Chicago ! Love you man !

Hi Folks,
That's great to hear Steven. Over the years I've heard countless stories about how my work and the JPF phenomena has positively affected and even saved people's lives in a myriad of ways. There's a rather big story behind it all that also fits that storyline and I hope to be able to tell it all someday (if there's time and an interested audience). With this recent episode the plot has thickened so to speak and even I don't know the ending. I am so glad it has helped you as I am sure now that it will help me. I will say it has opened my eyes a great deal on who some of my friends really are and more noticeably who they aren't. These sorts of times often illustrate that clearly if you are paying close attention. I've always said that sharing in your success is the reward to those who shared in your failure. But I am learning right now who among those who have shared in the good times over the years are still around when the chips are down so to speak. Life is about always learning new lessons and I am learning a great deal these days. (I am referring to people outside of the boards by the way so no one here should feel that is directed at anyone involved on the boards).
As for football, the Colts and Saints are my two favorite teams but I have to go with the hometown heros who are also torn since they have a lot of ties to New Orleans themselves. We always said to any who asked that our favorite city to visit was NO over the years. We haven't been there since the storm yet (our entire local JPF Chapter moved away after the storm) but look forward to coming back should I be able to tour again. But I am still rooting for the Colts. After all, NO has Mardi Gras, but in Indy all we have that interests the outside world is the Colts. (Racing has faded and since Reggie Miller retired, so have the Pacers). We'll only have Manning a few more great years and need to take max advantage!

Hey Brian,
take it easy. I don't know why we all have to run and scream. It wasn't meant to be like that. Cool and easy do it better - and faster - than anything else. You saved lives, take care of yours now!
Best wishes for a good recovery!

Thanks Herbie (we posted at the same time and I didn't see yours).
Joice and Yann, I am not overworking it. But most of the recovery happens soon after the stroke so I can't waste this healing time. Just regaining typing would be huge. (I am hunting and pecking 1 key at a time and failing so far, but I will persist).

Brian, it so great to know that you even type, although very challenging for you. Knowing you as I do, I am not surprised how press on despite the pain and frustration. That quality in you has always been your backbone, and one that many members climbed on for our great support. It is sad for me to think you have been let down by even one member that has benefited from your hard work and love to JPF and YOUR members.
Many here and I bet many in personal emails have let you know how much you have done and meant to them. As in songwriting and performing, when we get let down in any way, we can focus on those few. (Someone says: "A hundred liked me, but that one indifferent, ignoring person to me is sticking to me like glue"). Know that all won't be troopers. Know that all won't be thinking about the past. Know that some will be selfish, and will just want others to help them.
But count the ones in or off the boards that really appreciate you, and WILL be there for you in any way you want them to be. I bet there's more of them than not. (With also the ones that might not have expressed their gratitude yet, but would step up if asked).
Your moto is not lost with MANY! Know that.
Get well. Cindy says to say hi.
Thank you for all you have done for me! It goes beyond words, as you must know from your very own giving of your thoughts and actions for me. Let me know what I can do. Cindy and I could make a trip out your way if wanted for anything. Errands run, garlic salmon cooked, playing some music for you during your home rehab time, anything. It's in type, so hold me to it! It would our pleasure.
John

We just got a dusting of snow around here. Just over two feet. Out and about after 3 hours clearing it all from on top of the cars and in the driveway. Not bad. Seen worse. Just "once" though! '96. Four more inches then. Really, this is pretty deep! Looks great. Roads decent now....Great work by the road crews in these couple of states, (NJ, PA, Delaware). Remarkable work. Going to the shore tomorrow for Tracy's baby baptism. Being dug out already and giving the roads a try, it's better than I thought it would be, with this blizzard. Everybody jumped on it right as the snow started to lighten up. Amazing to see everybody out and helping each other. Three hours and everyone is dug out and walking on their walks and drives! That relentless quality reminds me of you in this difficult time of yours. You'll get through. Ask for help when needed, or even when not really needed, but wanted. John

You mentioned that your left hand was affected. Was it the whole left side? Are you able to walk? What about speech and eyesight? Are they OK?
Also, if we want to send some money to help with the insurance co-payments, can we send it to you or perhaps to paypal?

Brian I'm glad to see you are up and moving. That's important. The loss you feel will slowly come back. Maybe not all but much of it. The Brain is incredibly resilient and can relearn many things. My Sister-in-Law couldn't even walk after her injury (not a stroke) couldn't talk, couldn't feed herself. If you saw her today you would never know she had a brain injury. And that's all a stroke is. an injury.
Keep working those fingers Brian.
I was in Indie picking up my repaired truck and would have stopped by but it was really a bad day. Timing was just off I guess. I might be heading back to Michigan for a short visit soon. If you are up to it I might stop by.
Be well Brian.

Hey Brian! Great to see you're up and about. I kind'a know what you mean about your left hand. I've got MS and it's done enough of a number on it that I can't play guitar anymore. Unfortunately, it's permanent but I've learned and am still learning to work around it. Hopefully you will regain much of the feeling you've lost as Bill Robinson indicated should happen. Enjoy the game today! I'm a Steeler fan but today it's all AFC, so go Colts! -Dave

Very sorry to hear about the pain and frustration, Brian. But I'm also very glad just to hear anything from you. Waking up every day is a miracle, and I guess we all too often forget to feel the proper gratitude for even the worst of times. It's great to be alive, and it's great to have you back.

Hi Folks,
Just touching in to say hello and to thank those who have continued to show support. My left hand is still a mess (esp. to a left hander) and answering emails, posts or texts is really tough. I really feel antsy to get back in the saddle soon. I had some huge plans for 2010 and time is flying by. It may be some time before I am out of Indianapolis as I am busy doing intensive therapy re-learning to walk and with doctor visits tossed in. It seems I am something of a medical miracle and thus curiosity to the med community. I've had a few serious scares each week to keep things interesting and I think our medical bills are now pouring in and the first wave to the tune of 6 figures already. Yee Ha!
I have oodles of stories and thoughts and need to share them soon to make room for more (and because I no longer take tomorrow for granted... I used to not take next year for granted but things have certainly changed on that notion).
It always inspires me to hear from folks, so don't be shy saying hi. I am not always able to respond quickly, but I read 100% of what I get and see directed towards me here.
Thanks again!
Brian

Glad you are back writing! Have you shared your "story" somewhere... newsletter or otherwise?
You are wise to approach the rehab so seriously.
