Here is another fun song that I recorded today. Tampa Stan Good and Beth Williams wrote the lyrics I musicated. There is that word again LOL http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=687727&songID=8649420New tweaked version http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=687727&songID=8659115The Natives Are Restless Tonight Can you hear the drums a-pounding? Can you feel the heat around and The natives are restless tonight Do you feel a Little sweaty Here's a night you won't forgetty 'Coz The natives are restless tonight Hey everything’s OK Everybody's got a lei Yeah! The natives are dressed less tonight We’re all bare footing stomping in the sand & that conga line’s real tight Everybody's smiling here on the island Coz The Natives are restless tonight Bongos Thumpin bodies bumpin The natives are restless tonight All Wearing grass skirts and nobody’s wearing shirts 'Cuz The natives are restless tonight Coconuts droppin Everybody’s boppin Coz the natives are restless tonight We’re all bare footing stomping in the sand That conga line is real tight Everybody's smiling here on the island & The Natives are restless tonight Drums are thumping And the joint is jumpin Cause the natives are restless tonight Spiced rum so nice here in paradise When the natives are restless tonight Floating on the breeze swinging through the trees As the natives get restless tonight The moon lights up the beach tonight Volcanic passions soon ignite You dance till you can’t stand Then lie on blankets on the sand Gonna party all night Everything’s alright The natives are restless tonight

Hi Big Jim, Wow! What a production! I can just see the crowd going wild, with lots of audience participation, whether you want it or not! "Do you feel a Little sweaty Here's a night you won't forgetty" I just love that! Jim did a wonderful job setting off Stan's riotous lyrics. Great team effort. Ricki

Hi guys, All I can say is - W O W ! Love the way you keep driving the hook into us ! And the music is total jungle jive which is super-duper. Sounds like a big time hit to me. Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart

Yowza! What a fun tune. Rocking just like I love 'em. Great production. I was thinking, "hey a sax solo should go right here" and bamm!, there it is.
Very fun, good job on the collab. Kudos to you and Stan.

Hey Jim and Stan, Yep, pretty good tune, but WHY are the natives restless ? Have you upset them ? LOL Coming from the grass skirt Isle of NZ, and having spent some time in Borneo ( even went to a native village roundhouse adorned with shrunken heads from the "old days" ), I'd like to hear more of a story. Something like "white man upsets natives, natives retaliate, they're all friends in the end, partying on the beach". If you two unPC guys really want to upset people, just include "cooking pot" and "grass skirts" into the lyrics and you're onto a winner. cheers, niteshift

Ahhh, I was HOPIN' You'd Blow The Doors off This Number...& ya Succeeded VERY Well, Bro Jimmy!
That's an Amazin' Sax Part in there..(How DO they get a SAX on an ISLAND???) and I'm Impressed as well as Amazed! ;-)>
I'm worderin' if ya can overdub a (Black?) Gal Voice accentin' "RESTLESS" in the Refrain...the "Natives" sound kinda All-Male..& not REAL-Enthused...(Yet!)
Vocally, I honestly don't think Tom Jones coulda done this a bit better, & I've always admired Tom's Chops, always. Your Arrangement & Production..Fabulous, As-Always, Amigo!!! Top Notch!!! ('Did yearn for a few more DRUMS on da way out..heh-heh..as if one's Walkin'-Away..off into da bushes...heh!)
Hope the Dancers have as much Fun with this as I..& I think You Have!!! BRAVO Amigo!!!
Best Wises & a Perpetual Big Jimmy Hug, Stan

LOL - loved this one Yeah, I can hear this being played all kinds of places. Meant to get people up on the dance floor..... I love the male chorus on the title line. Agree with Stan though that maybe they could be a little more enthusiastic. Outstanding work on this, Jim and Stan. Scott

G'Mornin' Bro 'Shift, & Thanks for the Sugs, Amigo!
Think the Overall-Thrust of this'n' is the Natives-are-Restless 'cuz They're DANCIN'!!! (I've been to Ecuador, myself...& I forget WHICH Native Market we went to where the Natives just wore PAINT...heh-heh...but got my doubts "cooking pots's" enhance the Storyline here...&...JMO, but "Shirtless" got the balls rollin' substantially-enough here..) ;-)>
DO keep this Baby in mind here for some good Movie Scene...(Could work wonders for a Bedroom Bit-O-Drama..as well as the Obvious Dance-Floor-Routine.) Any Other Scenes ya need a bitta Extra-Special "Enhancement", DO let us know, eh? (I'm DYIN' for MORE "Assignment Songs" here...& Hank Mancini is Mah Hero!!!)
Many Thanks & Major Hugs, Ol' Stan

Stan and Jim I fo rilly like dis
All kinds of imagery.....Happy feet abound.....I think the background singing is topshelf, really brings in the tribal native asspect and adds intensity....arrangement is old and new at the same time..... all in all very creative tune both lyrically and musically

HiDee One & All! I've failed to remember that THIS lyric was a CO-WRITE with Fellow JPF-er, BETH WILLIAMS.
Since WE penned this together, back in October..& Jim's a Really BUSY (& Fine) Guy, it looks like we Guys BOTH forgot BETH's Very-Helpful-Artistry that CO-Developed this Fun Lyric...(since I guess we're both Busy, Forgetful Guys.)
So, as-promised, here's a Public Apology to my Valued Gal Co-Writer, BETH WILLIAMS Who helped make this the FUN SONG it's certainly-become.
It's hard to say "Sincere Regrets" and "CONGRATS" in the Same Line..but I'm as bad at Memory-Things as I am at PC.
Sincere Regrets & CONGRATS, Mz O...Sorry to have prettywell Blown It...Momentarily...but I get in More Grovellin' Practice the Older I Get.
Best Wishes, Big Hugs, Mr Memory Hisself, Stan

Thanks to everyone for the kind remarks. This is just a working demo. There are tweaks etc to be performed before it gets mastered so I will try to incorporate some of the suggies. Sometimes it is the fun songs that are thrown together quickly that work out best. This song was put on the back burner for a while due to my busy Xmas and New Year schedule and bad snow and ice that prevented us getting to the studio. Better late than never as they say.

Very cool. The Blue Danube opener threw me for a loop.
Great production and vocals. Are the instruments MIDI?
I did think that the verses might be two lines too long.
Otherwise super job and a primo candidate for a YouTube video!

Thanks Colin...We use a mixture of MIDI and samples.....most instruments are VST samples but there is a bit of MIDI as well. The intro Blue Danube is a bit of fun thrown in. It was designed to give Stan a fright....I said I was going to do his "Jungle boogie" as a waltz. I would have loved to have seen his face when he heard the opening..... LOL
Never made a music video before....I like that idea.

Hey Big Jim & Stan! When I first started listening and the Blue Danube Waltz starts playing, I'm like what the freak? What kind of a soundclick glitch is this? And just when I'm half expecting to hear Hal the computer's voice half-say and ask: "Dave..." the fun starts and the natives get restless. Love it! Fun ride! And best of all 'different'! Two thumbs up guys! -Dave

Like the tweaked version better, Big Jim & Stan. Did you change the uh, 'word', 'forgetty' to 'forget it'? My eyes aren't the best so I first read forgetty as fogerty and I'm wondering how you were possibly going to introduce John from Credence into the lyric. Lovin' it! -Dave

A very different but very likeable shake up/really wake up kind of tune! Great writing Stan and Jim your vocals seem a good fit. Two things only that I was thinking as I listened to both versions. Was thinking in the last line of your Chorus not having the hook there. You have plenty of lines w/your hook (and it's a great one), but I thought to make it alittle more of a contrast there the hook was ready for a breather. You have: We’re all bare footing stomping in the sand & that conga line’s real tight Everybody's smiling here on the island Coz The Natives are restless tonight Something like: We’re all bare footing stomping in the sand & that conga line’s real tight Everybody's smiling here on the island Mr Moon shinin' his light (or) Lady Moon shinin' her light (or) Faces lit by tiki lights You would still be hearing the hook 8 times, just not 10. Also while the drums are great maybe go alittle softer so we can hear the words more clearly. It seems like the speed of the song in the Chorus picks up and that's good so that you have that change in pace between Chorus and verse. Best, Lynn

Hi Everyone, I'm happy to see our song is generating such positive feedback. When Stan approached me about co-writing the lyric, I thought it would be a fun piece to work on....and Big Jim, you sure did our lyrics proud. As an aside, I will confess to giving Stan a rap on the knuckles for forgetting about my involvement . But he was sufficiently remorseful and sincere in his apology (hee hee hee) for me to consider this oversight water under the bridge . Ultimately, with Jim's latest terrific musication, I'm simply glad to have been a part of the song's creation. Thanks again, and have a good evening. Beth

HiDee Big Jim Again, Bro Dave, Mz Lynn & (Ain't she Great?) Mz Beth!!!
I DO like the Latest Improved-Version...& The "Forget it" Version IS an Improvement, Jim-Migo!!! Works fine as frog hair..kinda makes it a bit More "Grown-Up", Bravo Amigo! &..heh..Hook's really Enthusiastic-Sounding now, too...I'm Thrilled! (Dunno if my Fading-Out-Drums Idea improved it any...you be da judge..heh!) (Maybe with some fading-out Sax..too?...I'm not too-sure anymore..so Shoot-Me, I'm just onea the Lyricists..heh!)
Big Thanks Back to The-Other-Lyricist for forgivin'-me. Beth's got Her Comedic Touch woven all-through this Grass-Skirted little Number..but I've penned about 50-60 MORE songs since penning this one..&..my Memory's SO bad lately I can't even remember the Title of the one Doug Murphy & I got in a MOVIE recently. (Guess I'll take some more of those sub-lingual Vitamin B Tablets again...tho they give me more Insomnia than I normally-Already-Have!)
Mz Lynn, I'll leave it up to Jim on those kind Sugs of Yours. (Beth also wanted a "Mr Moon" line in there..you two been in-conference???);-)> Every time I hear "Mr Moon" ol' Brook Benton comes back in-mind, singin' "Please Mr Sun"...& it's 1960-somethin' again. But I kinda agonize when hearing a "Moon" in there..near-anywhere..since that ol' Moon/June/Spoon rhymy-stuff is so-dated. Jim's quite an adequate Word-Weaver himself...always free to cut-&-paste a bit on any lyrics we send him. Thanks for the Sugs...& We'll see if Jim's doin' Version 3, tho I'm REAL thrilled with Version 2, all-in-all!
As for John Fogarty..I LOVE the Guy's seeming-simplicity. WISH I could pen one as Cool as "Born on A Bayou" & go musically "Chooglin' down to New Orleans"... Ah, to capture the Mood of "Willie & The Poor Boys"...
But..for now, heh, I'm VERY Contented with the way "The Natives" ARE turning out...tonight!
Many Thanks Y'All...me & my Tired Brain are off to watch some late-night TV & Feel Good About Yet Another Good Friday!
Best Wishes, Big Hugs to All, & a Wee-Forehead Smooch for Mz O! Stan

Just found that our Beth was a co-writee also, so my apologies to her, and a "great job" lyrically to you Beth for your input. Jim should include your name at the top of the post. All around a really fun lively refreshing number. The video with this would be fun for the eyes. Best, Lynn

Hi Again, Mz Lynn!
Yeah, Beth sure deserves a BackPat or 15, too!!! (&..heh..I'm hopin' she can get Jim's "Maybe" on yet-another-co-of ours, "Feminine Feedback"...that's sorty been-sittin'...)
As Big Jimmy Knows, we-2 are "Real Patient" on His Musicating...it's ALWAYS worth-the-wait!!!
Many Thanks-Again for Your Kind Words-Again! Best Wishes & a Big Rest-Of-The-Weekend Hug, M'LadyChum! Ol' Forgetful Stan

Good Evenin' Brother Randy, & Many Thanks from the 3-of-Us for Your Visit & Kind Words!
While there IS a lotta Male Vox to this one, Background-Wise, IF it's got enough Gal Vox among the Partiers-in-the-Background..(& eventual Video of Ballroom Blitz Situation cum-Island) it should be just as Fun for the Females Out There, mehinks! (Especially if we have a Few Cougars-in-Attendance..heh!)
& Heck, Gals look WAYyyy Better'n' Guys in Grass Skirts...("Shirtless"..as ya recall...) ;-)>
PLayboy Channel, Here-We-Come...heh!
Thanks Again, Amigo, & Best Wishes/Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Hey the BJ. What can I say. Very well produced.
How did you go about creating all of this. I am curious as to your process.
Please PM and fill me in if you are of a mind to do so.

Lyn, Randy, Dave, Doug et al. Thank for the visit. This was a lot of fun to produce........Thanks also for the suggies. I will consider these changes if I decide to revisit. The credit for the production must go to Dave and Ed at Heartbeat studios. They have a great track record of turning my rough half assed melodies into something listenable.

Hey Big Jim. what a fun song! love the lyrics. my only suggestion is I would like to hear more vocal movement in some of the lines. ex. " the natives are restless tonght" in the first 3 uses, I was expecting his pitch to go up, but it stayed down, I think if he went up in pitch it would keep the energy of the song better. the singer does start to variy towards the end. but I ( being a singer) would love to hear it sooner. definatly hear this in a disney movie. great job, good luck!

Thanks Sharla. I decided to keep "The Natives are restles" line more as a primitive native chant TYPE THING than a sung line. I thought the contrast of the monotone "choir" replying to my singing the main vocals would add a bit of humour to the song as well as make my vocals sound better. LOL I hear what you are saying though.

I love the intro, I was smiling before it ever changed, I knew something was up. The song is very fun, it's very well produced. I thought the vocal fit the song. I first thought, well, what did they say? What is the story? It's just a bunch of phrases. But I suppose it can work. I would try to write it into a story but that's just me.
What would Jimmy Buffet do?
It's pretty dang good!
