Some of you may remember this one from over a year ago. Wendy was nice enough to do a vocal track for me, and I think she hit it out of the park (thanks again, Wendy!). I incorporated a lot of your input from when I posted the rough version back then... and, since Wendy's voice is always a treat, I decided to share. Safe Journey (vocals by Wendy D)(c) 2008 Rob Lewczyk / 3:10 I know there's goodness in this world But today I'd never know And though my heart is breaking now It's time to let you go The bravery you've shown Has put us all to shame You've battled through the sadness Fear and pain CHORUS Go to sleep my angel Safe journey my little one You'll always be here with me Like the sun and the stars above It's time for you to be at peace And for this war to end Wake up from this living nightmare And go back home again Although you have to leave You won't be far away 'cause you'll be on my mind Every day CHORUS BRIDGE If I get to heaven And the Lord can spare the time I'll ask him why you had to go And I was left behind CHORUS

Taking too long for the link to come up, but promise I will try later. If you used Wendy for your vocals then I know you have good discernment. Maybe I'll try another computer, be back...

Hi Rob: Very nicely written song about what must be the hardest thing a parent would ever have to face. Yeah, glad you decided to share. Wendy did a great job on the vocal, as usual, and I liked the way you blended her voice with the male (I'm assuming yours) backing vocal. Love the ending - not sure if those are hand bells or what but they sound really pretty! Scott

Even though it's a sad song it's rather comforting musically lyrically and vocally, great job guys,
Tony.

Hi Rob and Wendy,
Oh my....what a heart-gripping, beautiful song.
Rob, the lyrics are so well written... and you made a wonderful choice with Wendy doing the vocals.
Wendy, as usual...I love your voice. It was the PERFECT choice for this song. The male harmony was a terrific touch, too...as well as the bells at the end.
Great job you two...with meticulous attention to detail.
My best to you both, Gail

Hi Lynn - thanks for trying! Scott... thanks for listening and commenting. Yep, that's me in the background hiding behind Wendy's vocals. Tony, thanks for having a listen and for the nice words. Redwing - I'm glad the song moved you. I tried to capture a sad subject in a way that wasn't too overpowering. Gail, thank you for the kind words about the lyrics and the song in general. Listening to it again, I'm still not very happy with it from an overall production perspective, but Wendy's voice sure does a lot to take it to the next level despite my clunky piano playing. Thanks again, everyone. Rob

Rob, You are absolutely right that Wendy hit it out of the park! I love Wendy's voice but I think this is the best I have heard her. The song is very deap with a light touch. And as far as the production goes, you know I am always all over that, but I was so rivited by the story that I did not notice it at all. It just sounded lovely to me. Tom

Heartwrenching lyric, but Wendy makes it tolerable with her beautiful voice. Everything she sings is like sliding into a plush velvet robe for the listener. Loved the male harmony too.

I can't be the only one crying....so soft and sad yet sweet, bittersweet. I hope this wasn't written from a true life experience but if it was then I'm sorry for the loss. The bells are beautiful at the end almost like she's ringing Heaven's doorbell but I think they are so pretty and they should be repeated a second time there. Thanks for sharing a beautiful lyric, melody and vocals that make it work. Best, Lynn

Yo Tom! Thanks for the listen and the nice words. Yeah, Wendy's vocals really, really kill here. Perfect for this song, IMHO. Hi Polly. Nice of you to comment. Wendy's voice is definitely velvet robe-like (nice visual BTW). Mine's more like a Snuggie. , and thanks for thinking my harmonies added versus detracting from Wendy. I appreciate the listen. Lynn, thank you. And thanks for trying to listen again. No, you're not the only one. It makes my wife cry as well. It was written about a grade school friend of hers who lost a long battle with cancer a few years back - at a young age. I'm glad you like the bells... I was going for a lullaby feel, but I like the concept of heaven's doorbell as well. Hi Gus, thank you for stopping by to listen and comment. I truly appreciate it.

Rob I think in real life if a velvet robe and a snuggie actually touch a spontaneous combustion occours.
