Another McLight-poll for the Folks! Please follow the link and listen to 3 short demos of verse + chorus of a new song and tell me which one you like most: Reasons V1, V2 or V3? Link to Reasons V1-3 Thanx for your feedback! PS: Please ignore my voice and the arrangement - just focus on the melody and the harmonies.

Hi McLight: Just a quick reaction based on listening to each just once. I liked the melody of V1 but thought it was a little at odds with the lyric. Worth keeping though for something else. Or maybe this if the vote goes that way. I liked the chord progression for V2 but thought the phrasing wasn't as good as in V1 - particularly in the verse. V3, to me, had the best combination of phrasing and being appropriate for the lyric. I vote for that one. Scott

Unfortunately I saw Scott's post so I am voting for v3 for that reason alone (ha, ha). OK, I think v3 seemed the smoothest.

I think it depends on how you want to go, I can hear the first version as a smooth jazz type. the 3rd is more mainstream sounding. and the 2nd felt more like it would be attached to a movie. they could all work, just need to get good recording and arrangement with strong vocals. and decide which venue you want to persue.

Thanx for your votes and your comments! It's always good having some feedback before spending more time on a song. No use decorating a house if its foundation is poor. ;-) @Sharla: Knowing your voice I think I understand what you mean by "strong vocals". Actually this will be sung by a woman and she knows her job. That's why I hinted "ignore my voice" - my voice is just good enough for giving the singer an idea what the melody should sound like.

I kindly ask for some more votes - you don't have to write that much - "Vx" will do. Thank you!

V3 is the one that I like best, though I think that it would sound even better with usual soul rhythm, ever tried that?

@jimmy: no, haven't tried that yet. But this demos only reflect chords, melody and tempo of a version. Once a version is selected I refine chords (like additions), search for the optimal groove, sounds etc. and start recording. This is several hours of work and prefer spending this time on versions many people like. ;-)

Just wanted to let you know it'll be V3 to be turned into a song. Got the most votes by far! :-)

Hi Okay here is what I feel, version 3 has the best verses definte, version 2 has the better chorus. version 3 chorus sounds way too much like the verses. BUT at the end of version three you have a melody on the last two lines move that melody to the end of the verse. So it's the verse in V3 than make it move into the ending chorus melody ov V3 than go into the Chorus of V2 Use "I am to full of reasons gave my life away, until the end I had led myself led myself astrayUse that as a pre-chorus because that is what it is, it's clear as bell. Lastly if you are considering this for a pop song or something to pitch I would re-draft the lyrics. The whole angle of observing yourself in this manner is just not happening. It won't click. I would assume upon hearing this you weren't thinking in a pitching way. "to distinguish myself in old age"That's not gonna fly but even overall the lyric really could use a make over if not only for marketing purposes but just to be more interesting, exciting, less cliche. Good melody but lines like - "led myself astray" are amateurish lyrics. Try to step it up a bit. You do have a variety of nice melodies but there spread about, use the BEST from each, try what i suggested I PROMISE everyone will like it the best. I wish i had some king of money to guarantee to that or bet on it, cause I would Best Of luck

Hi Mike - many thanx for this reply. You've really spent some time on this! I will think about your suggestions. (Just visited your soundclick-page: you have some great music there! I admire people who can play more than one instrument up to a level worth recording. The brooklyn video was really cool showing you playing guitar, bass, drums, keyboards - wow! I'm focused on keys, but play a bit of guitars and drums too ... for fun and for better understanding )
