Hey Folks,
Does anyone else here make ringtones available to fans? I'm looking for a good solution for that. I started using ThumbPlay Open, but there are some frustrating issues with them.
Thanks!
Ken

I used to make ringtones in the days of phones that only had basic monophonic MIDI functions. Nowadays phones can play just about any music or video file so ringtones per se are almost redundant. Most modern phones can play Mp3 or even wav files. Any decent music editing program can produce a shortened version of a song made suitable for a ringtone either as a midi or Mp3. That is the route I would suggest.

If you go the mp3 route then mp3 pro I believe knocks about 30% plus off of the file size.
If you have nero, you can use the nero tools / wave program to create them.
Just a thought

Thanks! Yeah, I made my own mp3 ringtone for my phone, but when I put them on my site, there were lots of folks who said mp3s wouldn't work on their phones.
ONe thing I really do like about that ThumbPlay Open store is that they will send the ringtone directly to the customer's phone. I think it even matches the ringtone format to the particular phone model.
Otherwise, yeah. I'd just make them all myself and make them available via digital download.
Maybe I need to figure out what all the different ringtone formats are out there. That, or find a better on-line store that also caters to independent musicians.
Cheers!
Ken
