Hi Kimber, I listened to both hey, and I enjoyed listening to both, but I have to be honest, Wow Jim nailed it, golly gosh, YIPEE, I just love it. I've nearly got an album of Jim now, congratulations to all. I'm a fan! Hugs Michele

Great job on this one. I liked the original fine, but Jim's gravelly, soulful voice is a perfect fit. Must be all the cold rain and haggis.

Wow, Big Jim, you should be singing with that lady (Susan Boyle) on Englands Got Talent or whatever it's called. I thoroughly enjoyed that performance. You need to plug in a couple of real female backup singers and hit the road. Or just keep entertaining us, the lucky chosen few. Bravo.

Thanks Donna.....thanks for the kind remarks.... Thanks Pete....I am full time constantly on the road...hard nowadays earning a living working solo, or with a duo or with the 4/5 piece band. Hiring a couple of female singers is sadly not viable even though they might bring a bit of glamour to us veterans. You might like to know that Susan Boyle is a local girl from a few miles along the road. By sheer coincidence she recorded 3 tracks several years ago for a charity album in my pal's studio "Heartbeat" here is a link. http://heartbeatstudio.co.uk/current%20projects.htm That was her only recording prior to Britain's Got Talent.

Thanks JM and Naomi.... your comments are much appreciated. To everyone else....I did not mean this to be a contest or to choose a favourite......it was just a chance for me to sing this great song and an exercise in comparison of two different styles of vocals covering the same piece. I think Taylor nails it but in a different vocal style..His is more contemporary and mine is simply an old fart singing a more classic soul/rock/blues style.

I gotta tell some people to come and hear this one!
Well done. Very creative. I read the lyric and, while I liked some lines and liked it overall, I wasn't enthused about reading it or again or hearing how it might be sung.
I am now! The man reached right in and found a heart in it, maybe not the one it came with, but a strong one, beating and sincere.
As the young people say, Big Jim Merilees; respect!

I listened to Kimberly and Taylor's version and the song just works. There are nuances of difference in melody and vocalization, but both treatments work for my tastes.

I just listened to this and Big Jim you're the man! The only problem is that it is a bit too long. All I can say is Mick Hucknall has a new rival in Big Jim!

Thanks Redwing....Compared to most pop or country songs I suppose it might be considered long....In the Rock/soul/R&B genre it is probably about average length...maybe some prog rock people who lived throught the seventies would even say short. That said if it was cut for a single it could be shortened.

To everyone who has commented on this song, and the really cool comments and reactions, it means alot to me. I was kinda sitting back more to let Big Jim react and comment more on this one as he was the one that re-did it. I was pleased that Big Jim loved it enough to want to do it. It means alot to me and Taylor. Thanks you guys. To hear such kind things makes me want to write and create music even more. Kimberly

Kim and Taylor...it was a pleasure and a privilege to record vocals for this song....I have been wanting to record an original song like this for years....It is a truly wonderful piece of classic soulful rock....much in the style of Maggie Bell, Janis J or even Joe Cocker. My only prob is the modern R&B handle....I think it should not really be called R&B given the style of typically modern urban R&B stuff. I would call it retro soul or even classic 70s R&B or rock. Sadly there are not really any categories on Soundclick that fit....My fear is pitching it to the wrong audience.

Hi Big Jim. You are right. It is hard to find a catagory to place this in for soundclick. It was a pleasure hearing your rendition of this. You hit it out of the park. Now...I have my fingers and toes crossed as I try to pitch it. Kim

Big Jim ROCKS!!! He is just so BADASS! I've been a fan since the very first time I heard his awesome voice. Everything he does is amazing. I loved the lyric, and I said earlier, and I noticed this part: Cause no matter what I do No matter what I say Every time my heart beats it fills my blood with you Every time I say your name I get high from the sound Spinning me into oblivion round and round and round Very, very cool!

I listenes to the original a week or so back and have already commented on it. Loved it!
Now, Big Jim's version...The best song to hit Soundclick and JPF in years! Perfect in every possible way. Nuff said!

Hey... huh, do you know how this sounds? It sounds like the whole "Flames" Album. How cool is that... I´ve heard a similar Sound - believe it or not - at the 1972 Beach Boys R&B Album "Carl & the Passions"... really cool
" little christmas spirit please, I´ll take mine of the rocks"

Thanks Martin.....It certainly brought back memories of that era...that is why I wanted to record it. As I said in an earlier post Maggie Bell, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker and others of that ilk would be proud to record this. That said this stands head and shoulders above contemorary songs and there is no reason why this cannot make it nowadays......especially when you hear the crap that charts.

Thanks for the visit. Kim and Taylor should pitch this....they may need help from people with knowledge and contacts....BUT...if this is pitched to the correct people it should go big time. I wish them luck and hope that anyone with contacts reading this will help them out.

Hi Guys,
This is a very cool tune. It's got so much going for it, the feel, the arrangement, the performances. It's just really well done. I like both the vocals but Jim's smokes!
There 2 pretty weak bits IMO, and they're both first impressions.
1) The opening sax notes just say's MIDI to me. It's OK but pales in comparison to the overall tune. My advice is just to reedit and chop 'em out, starting with the full band. It'd be an easy edit. The sax stuff later that's mixed in with the band are more musical. It's just those notes by themselves....
2) I was starving in a wilderness ***without***
I just don't get 'without' in this context. Eliminate this word and read V1. Isn't this what you're trying to say?
Also, this is just a weak word that you're placing a big musical emphasis on and it just doesn't work.... And this is your opening line. IMO you just can't have an opening line that's this weak.
Anyway... this has tons going for it. But IMO you gotta fix these opening bits. I don't think either is a very big redo, so I hope you consider it.
All the best with this super strong tune,
Peace,
Ian

Thanks for the visit Ian. Glad you liked the song. I was just the singer... Doing my own versioon to the backing track...LOL I take your point and the things you mention are easy fixes. Bearing in mind that this is just a demo...I am sure that there is enough there to sell the song....the saxes can be real for a full demo and any other probs sorted. Re lyrics.... well Kim is the one who has to make any adjustments there. I think she has done a pretty good job.....but there is always ways to improve things.. The lyrics made sense to me but I understand where you are coming from..LOL

Big Jim & Michele--
This is about the coolest tune I've heard in months! I love the matching Jim has done to this melody; perfect, and the emotion that comes through in Jim's vocals is quite moving. He could sell fire to the devil with vocals like that. Well done.
Kudos JD

Hi JD..glad you liked this. I wrote it and my friend Taylor did the music and original vocals on it. Big Jim wanted a stab at it and did an impressive job. Thanks for listening everyone and all of your kind comments.
