[4/4, fast]
Real wet ink (well, it would be if I were using ink). I decided that "country love song in the style of the Ramones from the point of view of the dog" needed to be written. As usual, it turned out a little different from what I expected.
Niteshift, no dead animals in this one. Sorry. It does have music (they *always* have music), and I'll get around to recording it after a while. Got a few things in the pipeline first. And I wanted to see what y'all thought of the lyrics first. Thanks.

THE DOG’S SONG --J. Wrabek
[THE RAP: A response to another of those challenges. Let's just say there are very few love songs, country or otherwise, written from the point of view of the dog. This happened to a dog I know. The kids are grown up and gone, but you’ve still got the dog. You’re older, busy, ain’t got time to play with the dog. So you get the dog a little kitten to play with. Did anyone ever ask the dog what the dog thought about that? I didn’t think so…]
INTRO: When the litter of kids is up and grown And you’ve given ‘em away to real good homes The old dog gets t’be home alone And maybe sleep all day; There must’ve been something wrong with that ‘Cause you had t’go off and get him a pet And you had t’make it a baby cat— Don’t know what you were thinkin’ when you thought of that…
1. She’s got funny-looking eyes and a pushed-in head, And a voice designed for wakin’ the dead; If I lay down, she’s in my face And if I wag my tail, it’s something t’chase… And that crash you heard in the living room Is the death of another old heirloom And we both know when the folks get home The dog’s gonna get the blame.
CHORUS: Can’t get no rest when she’s underfoot— A hundred miles an hour, up to no damn’ good; She’s broke more things than I ever could And I feel real sorry for the neighborhood… But she scratches my ears when I’m goin’ t’sleep, And purrs when she’s lyin’ next to me, And she’s kinda hard t’try to catch and eat— I think I’ll let her stay.
2. She still can’t bark, but she knows how to bite, And she’s sure learned how t’stay up all night; Ev’rything she touches gets turned to shreds, Like the pillows and the curtains and the doggie bed… But just yesterday, she brought me a mouse She’d caught and killed somewhere in the house, And she let me bite its little head off— I think we’re gonna be okay.
3. When she gets older, and less of a jerk, I just might teach her how frisbees work; She can jump almost as high as me, And she’s learned how t’land on all four feet… And the first time she goes out alone, I’m prob’ly gonna worry till she gets back home, And I’ll sniff her butt to find out what she’s done And I’ll hope that she’s okay.

Joe,
Can't wait to hear this and play it at home. I've got an old dog and a stray kitten we just took in a month or so ago. I laughed all the way through the lyric thinking yep.. that's it exactly. Good luck with the music.

Yes, this is heaps of fun, Joe. Had me laughing right out loud. Lots of good lines. Donna

Love it Joe! Was thinking the last line of the chorus was going to be "I think I'll make her earn her keep". Great novelty tune a comin', I'm sure. I'll keep my eyes perked. Best, John

This is hilarious. Sure was long but I enjoyed every bit of it. Very clever. Can't wait to hear the tune. Great job!

Thanks, guys. Gary, that's great--I'll use it. Definitely easier to sing. And Wes, it's probably not too long; it just has a lot of words in it. It's going to move pretty fast. I haven't decided whether it'll move fast enough for there to be a break. Maybe.

Long or not, I wouldn't change a thing Joe. It's great stuff! I like your style. This is the first one of yours that I've had the opportunity to check out. It was well worth it. I enjoyed every bit of it. Don't change a thing!

BroJoe, What a HOWL!
Brilliant Writing, Chum of Mine..& I'm with Wes...it's Word-Perfect!
Some FABULOUS Observation goin'-on here...(& yep, I've even witnessed that Butt-Sniff...as-penned/& cats do it too!) We've averaged one $2-300 Antique per-Kitty here..during that "Break-in Period."(& I don't think it was "Accidental" either...dern 'em!)
GREAT Dog Story...I enjoyed every line! "KUDOS" & Good Luck with it, as-always! Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

Thanks, Gus. For what it may be worth, it has been recorded (this morning), and the URL is up on the MP3 Board.
