Sorry I haven't been around much but life is moving way too fast these days. I got a lot of help from some of you guys on this song and thought you might like to hear the finished??? version.

Take care
Steve

Hot dog roasting on big long stick
Marshmallow burning better blow it out quick
Sound of the river is a sweet lullaby
The baby is closing his eyes

Ice cream dripping on the summertime farm
Sweet little baby sticking to my arm
Honeybees buzzing but they mean no harm
They're just happy to be living in the country

Tailgating out in a big old field
Well the hills and the sky don't look quite real
yukon gold waiting to be peeled
Living underground in the country

I wouldn't want to live life anywhere but here

Picking blackberries on the fowler river road
Sleepy little baby is a mighty big load
Kids running round trying to catch an old toad
Who just happens to be living in the country

Jumping in the water at the end of the day
With the sweet grass smell of the new mown hay
Crows in the trees got plenty to say
About people who are living in the country

I wouldn't live life anywhere but here

Times are tough but they're sure not bad
We thank the lord for the love we've had
But you never know what's coming down that road
Right now the only things we need
Are a summer breeze and a big shade tree
And a warm soft patch of grass to lay our load

Oak smoke making it's last go round
Sun setting red as the coals burn down
Maybe we could make a little fire of our own
When we get back to our home
When we get back to our home
When we get back to our home
In the country
I wouldn't want to live life anywhere but here
In the country...living in the country, living in the country

Steve,
The thing I find most impressive about your work is that you don't repeat yourself, every song I have heard from you is unique. And you have such an unique and individual sound.
And it is so clean.
You want to know what? I think I liked your previous version a little better. I think I liked the flow a bit more.
Still this is really nice. I loved the kids.

Hey Steve. Great job on this one! Reminded me of something the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band might do. In fact, the sentiment you express here made me think of the NGDB's "Fishin' In The Dark". That puts you in some mighty fine company as far as I'm concerned.

Enjoyed this a lot!

Greg

Hi Steve,

What's REALLY spooky is I had just listened to Hoyt Axton's "Road Songs" all the way through, and I thought I had discovered a secret track! laugh

This song seems to be a direct influence. You share with Hoyt a sense of humor, a dry throat style, and an ability to put words together that makes them memorable, off the bat.

Mike

Wow!
Thanks guys. Sorry I haven't had time to get on this board much but I appreciate all the encouragement and fine comments. Hoyt Axton? Nitty Gritty Dirt Band? That does my heart proud.

Thanks again
Steve

This song has a LOUSIANA MAN sound and then seems to drift into a more original sound. I see it as somewhat mixed in appeal.
