I do have some changes I may do to this, but here's what I have so far. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8168231 Step To The Side I've been tied down way too long In this loveless thing you call a marriage Lived My life the way You told me to Lost myself somewhere along the way It's time I toughened up and moved on I need to find myself again I miss that sassy, funny, carefree girl If I mess up, I'll have myself to blame But life's too short to live Your way I'm ready for My life to begin Step to the side Get out of my way Best not try to stop me I've a lifetime Of catching up to do Bringing this girl Back out that's trapped Inside of me And tonight I'm gonna ride Tonight I'm gonna ride Step To The Side You'd introduce me as Your wife Never mentioned my first name Treated my as Your property I'm through playing your selfish games Tonight I'm taking back My life I've prayed until my knees are bruised Should I leave or should I stay I tried to think of four good reasons And I couldn't even think of one Leaving you is what I choose Step To The Side Get out of my way Best not try to stop me I've got a lifetime Of catching up to do Bringing this girl Back out that's trapped Inside of me And tonight I'm gonna ride Tonight I'm gonna ride Step To The Side I need to find a reason to smile A reason to wake up I'm going to find how to Love Me again Step To The Side Get out of my way Best not try to stop me I've a lifetime Of catching up to do Bringing this girl Back out that's trapped Inside of Me And tonight I'm gonna ride Tonight I'm gonna ride Step To The Side Step To The Side Step To The Side written: by glyn

Glyn, those lyrics were right on, so relatable! And Heather FLOORED ME on vocals! Man, this song is so great! I can't believe Heather isn't a household name by now! I compare her to Allison Krauss as far as purity of voice. This was such a pleasure to listen to! Sometimes here I feel like I'm getting to preview talent that has only a matter of time before it hits big!

Hi Glyn,
Nice to see you back with a new one.. I love the title of this, and I think you've made good use of it!
My favourite part:
And tonight I'm gonna ride Tonight I'm gonna ride Step To The Side
Seems like you have a lot to say on this subject?

glynda, How's it going, we need to do another country rocker! Good female empowerment tune and good delivery by Heather. I thought that the verse after the chorus went "backwards" a little. You'd introduce me as Your wife Never mentioned my first name Treated my as Your property .... I realize that you are trying to show a reason why you're leaving, but I think the plan of leaving is already well established. It would become more positive if you laid out a few of the things you were going to accomplish in this new life. Just a thought. Kevin

Oh Glynda,
I simply adored this one. Familiar territory, but you conveyed it in a unique enough way to keep my interest. And gee, what a terrific hook!
Needless to say, havin' Heather singin' it didn't hurt ya none either. She really is wonderful, isn't she? She always makes the song believable and heartfelt. And with a story like this, that was extra important.
I'll admit, I kept looking for a more formal rhyme structure...but you seemed to be a bit loose there, with the first and last lines of the verses rhyming only? Quite brazen of you, and I dare say I'm going to have to give that a try. Natch, I loved the "Tonight I'm gonna ride/Step to the side" combination.
Back to the hook for a second: what I especially liked about it is that it calls to mind a John Wayne/Clint Eastwood character saying calmly "Step aside, mister"...or something like that. And so for me anyway, it lends your heroine another layer of strength and courage.
All around, a nice nice job. You should be very proud of this one.
Cheers, Beth

Beth,
Yes, I do agree, I really need to work on gettin my songs to rhyme more, for some of them..the story changes and doesn't sound real to me, so at times I rhyme what part I feel needs it most..but I do need to work on that more..just don't like stories that sound pushed together..anyway, thanks so much for listneing and taking your time to crit for me, I always love what you have to say...thanks again glyn

Hey lady...
I like the melody here..some of this sounds familiar..but, I think you've got the premise for a great song..maybe a touch of tweaking....maybe some tighter rhymes. Lemme know if you'd like some help..always happy to. (not for a co, just for a friend) How ya been, anyway, haven't heard boo from ya lately.

Well, I just burned my pizza because I couldn't stop listening to it! (Yeah, we all know how much I need to eat pizza!) This song has been in my head FOR DAYS! I sing it in the car to work, etc. I think the whole thing is perfect, the lyric, the melody, everything. The last time I was fixated on a JPF song was Kaufman's rendition of "Catwalk Candy". Where is he anyway? Did the song go to his head and turn him tranny or sumpin? j/k Kaufman! Anyway, to ME this has all the makings of a hit. The lyric is so descriptive and pained of a relationship TONS of women (who buy country songs among other things) know all too well. Heather's instrumentation, melody and delivery of it are so stellar and match the lyric exactly...she gives just the right emotion at just the right time. She sings in "shades" (like Big Jim told me to do but I've never quite mastered it). The fact that the song lives in my head (I'm going to start charging it rent!) should be testimony that it's GREAT! Not that my head is a great place to live, just that I'm pretty picky about what lives there. Good luck with this. Iffin you entered it into the JPF Awards for 2010, I'd vote for it. I hope it goes even further. When you're at the Country Music Awards in your Versace gown, making your acceptance speech, don't forget the little 'tards like me, okay?

There's not much to say that hasn't yet been said. It's a great lyric and Heather, as usual, does a wonderful job on delivering the goods. Sounds great to me!

Hi Glyn and Heather. Nice hook.....nice job all round. I would like to see more production than just guitar/vocal. This song would be taken to another level....perhaps also just a tad slow tempo wise. I played it at 5% faster and it seemed to work better.
