He died today of Pancreatic Cancer
He wasn't a musician but he was an Artist. RIP Patrick.
Not to take anything away from this news but My Brother Len has been fighting Non Hodgkins Lymphoma since last December. The Docs are trying to figure out what to do next. His Cancer has become refractory and the tunors are growing. The tumors are multiple throughout his abdomen and inoperable. I doesn't look good. It looks like they are going to put him in a trial next. See if they can find something that will stop the cancer. My Brother is 55 years young.

Wow, this is so sad. I loved his work. He was too young to die.
My friend from high school died in May from lymphoma. It is a huge reality check when someone your age passes way before their time.
Let's just all remember to savor every moment, and do everything with love in our hearts.

Thanks Glyn
It seems Patrick did have a musical side aside from dance. He wrote and performed a song "She's Like The Wind" on the soundtrack Of Dirty Dancing.

Sorry to hear about your brother, Bill. RIP Patrick.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Dak Thanks, Len was lucky. He was in that lottery they had back then and his number never came up before the war ended. So he never went to Namm. Then they abolished the draft in 73 so he never served.
It is interesting. None of us went to Namm. I was in and out before it really got going 1961 through 1964. My brother Larry enlisted in 1969 and was discharged on a medical, Missing a vertebrae in his spine, Len's lottery number never came up and my little brother Rick was to young. We were just lucky I guess.

Sorry Bill, to hear that your brother is not making any gains against that enemy, cancer. I lost a brother to cancer a few years ago, it hurts. I'll pray for him.

Bill,
every untimely death (like Patrick Swayze's, RIP) reminds us of the utmost importance to give as much love as we can around us, especially to our family and friends. "Live like you were dying" is not a bad song. I sincerely feel for you and your brother, Everett's brother and Polly's friend.
take care, yann

My favorite roles were Darrell the leader of the "Greasers" gang in The Outsiders, and as a commando who went to Vietnam to rescue POWs in Uncommon Valor.
The media keeps playing cheesy dance scenes from Dirty Dancing. That wasn't the only movie he ever made.

Best wishes for your brother, Bill. The best thing I learned from my brother when he had a terminal illness was to focus on his aliveness...he hated the idea of being thought of as dying. He'd rip people a new one for that...while he was on this earth, he wanted to be thought of as Alive Now. I guess I would too.
But I know how hard it probably is on you, so take care man.

Mark I'm sorry to hear you lost a brother to a terminal illness. I know what you mean about thinking of him as alive now. I try. But sometimes, especially at night right before sleep it creeps in. He's dying and there is nothing I can do about it.
Makes it tough to sleep, or want to go to bed.
Everytime there is a reference to Swayze on the news it hits home.

G'Mornin' Bro Bill, & Add me to your bunch of Prayerful Sympathizers...Cancer's a Bitch..lost my Mom & Stepdad to it over the years.
I admired Patrick Swayze both for his talent..and for his Courage..to "Stay Busy" even when the doc's didn't give him the best of news. I'm not a giant Whoopie Goldberg Fan..but she & Patrick really SHINED in "Ghost" & that movie remains a Forever CLASSIC outta Tindseltown he can be forever proud of making.
Hope things work out better for your brother..don't ever give up hope.
Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug, Stan

I became a fan of Patrick's in 1984 when I saw him on the mini-series North and South as Orrie Maine. He was stunning to look at but added heart to the performance. He reminded me some of my husband too, so that made him even more attractive to me.
I can't name how many times I have watched Dirty Dancing, to the point of knowing just about every word, and the sexiness and the dancing, was spot on. It is funny, in 1987, this was very riske' to see this on a movie, now they do alot dirtier dancing on TV shows. Times have changed. Not to say for the better.
I knew this was coming, but it still is sad to me, and I feel bad for Lisa and his mother, and two brothers.
He was in such pain and had such grace and courage through it all. He had the strength of two men.
I wish the best for your brother Bill. Cancer has taken someone in most everyone's family, and it is such a hard thing to see. I hope he fights it as bravely as Patrick yet has a better outcome.
Rest in Peace Patrick. He will live in our memories.
Kimberly

'K, I was wondering because NHL is one of the cancers that is pretty prevalent in Vietnam Veterans and more likely than not caused from dioxin exposure from the herbicides used there and handled and stored in other places in and around the general area. I lost my next youngest brother a year ago September 5th due to a extremely fast moving and lethal leukemia. He made it about a month after diagnosis at about the same age as Len. Much, much too young. I'll be praying that Len can get into a trial and that it works.

Everytime there is a reference to Swayze on the news it hits home. Yeah Bill, that's tough, but heed Mark's advice and dwell on the life and it will help you, and Len. I'll bet a dollar to a donut hole that he doesn't want you dragging over his illness.

Bill, I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. Fighting any illness is a chore, but one that rarely or never gives in and lets the person live a real life, is terrible. I'll pray for your brother and for you and your family, it can take a lot out of anyone involved, not just the person with the illness. I hope the trial is benificial for him.

Yeah Bill sorry to hear about your brother as well. Such a shame.... I liked Patrick Swayze. He wasn't in my top 20 favorite actors but he wasn't one of those that I was like "go away from movies or TV already" He was enjoyable in anything I've seen him in.. Ghost being the best probably. I liked him in Donnie Darko, Steel Dawn, The Outsiders and I still get a kick out of Roadhouse with also the late musician Jeff Healy His Dirty Dancin movie put a lot of smiles on a lot of peoples faces, and that's always a great thing. All through his career he seemed to be a genuine and nice person. May he rest in peace....

I'm deeply sorry to hear of Patrick Swayze's death as well. Loved him in "Ghost", which I've seen a couple of times.
My heart goes out to others here who have loved ones suffering.

Sorry to hear about all of these cancer scares. And tragedies. I can certainly relate. Hang in there, everyone, carpe diem.
"Ghost" is actually one of my very favorite movies. I am no movie buff but wow, that movie is awesome to me. And he was a fine actor, not to mention, dancer. RIP.

I was really saddened to hear about Patrick Swayze's passing. "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" is one of my favorite movie lines. His Chip 'n' Dale dancer bit with Chris Farley on SNL was hilarious, and he was perfect as Darry in The Outsiders. I had forgotten about his role in Donnie Darko until I read Sub's post. He was a really versatile actor who seemed like a down-to-earth guy. My friend said this morning, "Dalton's kickin' butt in that big Roadhouse in the sky now." That put a smile on my face.

The television mini series, the first one, was North and South, it was quite good with Kirstie Alley, Forrest Whitaker, many stars in it. Nice story of America in the late 1800's...
Patrick was very good in this movie.
