This is another lyric by the team of Bolton/Gray
"I'm Just A Hoot Scootin Girl"
Verse I was one of 8 children we didn't have alot , so I learned to be thankful for ev'rything I got I never owned red back boots to place upon my feet, or a hat to keep me covered from the pourin rain or heat
Chorus) I'm just a hoot scootin, country picking, pop rock type of girl followin my list of dreams just havin me some fun Time ain't gonna hold me back from enjoyin the world I'm makin up for wasted time to see and get things done
Verse I grew up lovin music hoped someday I'd learn to play tho the years came and went, the want never went away I'll write down some lines and verse try to get them to rhyme then I'll hum out the music from my heart and in my mind,
Chorus) I'm just a hoot scootin, country picking, pop rock type of girl followin my list of dreams just havin me some fun Time ain't gonna hold me back from enjoyin the world I'm makin up for wasted time to see and get things done
Verse Now I've finished all the verses, and the lines to my song, and I've learnt how to set ,the Hook in good and strong I'm breaking in the words to my hoot scootin song now all that's needed is an audience to sing along
Chorus) I'm just a hoot scootin, country picking, pop rock type of girl followin my list of dreams just havin me some fun Time ain't gonna hold me back from enjoyin the world I'm makin up for wasted time to see and get things done and I'm gonna sing and dance, til I rock the house down

Michelle, Gary;
Three things come to mind:
1.) The "hoot scootin' just seems too derivative of "boot scootin'" by Brooks and Dunn. I don't know what "hoot scootin" is, but it just takes me to that other song too much.
2.) The first verse doesn't seem to lead into the chorus to me. The transition is too quick and there's no real character development of the girl.
3.) After verse one you've totally abandoned anything about where the girl came from and just jumped into her wanting to write songs.
As always, wait for other opinions and then decide what to keep and what to throw out.
Kevin

I guess Gary had a comment after all. this is to let you know I don't care nor like you at all! and I have you on ignore so quit wasting your time with replying to any of my lyrics or replies cause I can't see them nor care what they say!! your a jerk in my opinion people like you shouldn't be allowed to be alive (now I gotta ask God to forgive me because you bring out the worst in me) Sorry you feel that way -- but I think you went a little too far this time. You need to really look at what you wrote and see it for what it is. Kevin

boot scootin boogie is a Great song and has a huge public awareness RIGHT NOW --- how young are you Gary?? --- to get a publisher to bite on this being so close - is kind of giving a poor impression -- like you don't have an original thought here.........
I don't believe it will do you any good service to get so close to big hits....... why waste you time and money on demos

this song lyrics has nothing to do with boot scootin boogie, the phrase "hoot scootin" is an ORIGINAL one that was made up by Michelle and she will have to explain how she came about it. I don't never disclose personal information to strangers

Hi All
Sorry I will be back later, I've have been very busy the last few days, I've never heard the song "Boot Scootin" so I'm going to check it out later when I got some time.
Sometimes I think songs are better off heard before judged, the melody I have in my head for this, I guarantee would be nothing like "Brooks & Dunn", and Hoot means having fun to this Aussie girl. Golly I opened up a can of worms hah, and I would never take anything from "Brooks & Dunn" they are top notch, and I'm looking forward to meeting with them one day.
I'll be back.
hugs Michele

I've never heard the song "Boot Scootin" so I'm going to check it out later when I got some time. Hi Michele I Believe you when you say this....... this sort of thing DOES happen all the time... So in the end it really is a matter of what You decide to do with it........ and in Truth your rhyme IS different........... I believe most publishers would turn it down -- I could be wrong -I have been - Just today Here's a story though - that I will share with you..... I wrote a lyric and music to a song --- felt like I had really hit the mark on it from comments that I received on the forum........ decided to take it to my song writer group for further critique..... many people had heard the song by this time --- including one person at a song circle who said --- something is Very familiar about that song.....when I finished playing the song for the song writers --- the mentor said --- it sounded LIKE a Very famous song.... told me what it was, and said --- even IF you find that what you have IS different and a Variation ---- it doesn't matter ------as soon as I go there (and it was the opening lines) ---- that's the FAMOUS song that's in My head ---- IT will NEVER be your song or a Great song ----- change it to make it your own........... I think his advise is REAL solid and I listened --- for what it is worth... Best wishes jm

Golly I opened up a can of worms hah Michele, Gary's explosion had nothing to do with my comments (since he says he didn't read them), he just exploded on the fact that I commented at all. I find it weird that I am not welcome to comment on your collaborations, but if that's the way you want it, I'll respect that. Kevin

Hi Joice & Kevin
I went and found the lyrics for "Brooks and Dunn's" song, and it is nothing like Gary and my song, this song is about me personally, and a completely different story to "Brooks and Dunn's lyrics", the only word in my song that's the same is "SCOOTIN" and the melody I have I can assure you is my own style, nothing like "Brooks and Dunn's", and NO I would never copy or steal anyone's songs EVER or idea's. "I'm a Hoot Scootin" is me, I love Country, Pop, Rock music, they are all my favorite Genres and I am quit willing to change one word "Scootin" if Gary and I need too, if anyone has any other suggestions, we would love to hear them.
Kevin, I am not having a go at you, or anyone else, I won't get into it, if you have a personal problem with Gary, Please work it out with Gary hah.
I came to this site to learn the craft of writing a song, and for every bit of hurt and pain in my life that I personally experienced, I won't get into arguing about lyrics, I want to have fun, enjoy what I got, laugh, learn, make good friends in which I have here, can we let it go now please.
Hugs Michele

Out in the country Past the city limits sign Well there’s a honky tonk Near the county line The joint starts jumpin’ every night When the sun goes down They got whiskey, women music and smoke It’s where all the cowboy folk Go to boot scootin’ boogie
I’ve got a good job I work hard for my money When it’s quittin’ time I hit the door runnin’ I fire up my pickup truck And let the horses run I go flyin’ down the highway To that hide-a-way Stuck out in the woods To do the boot scootin’ boogie
Yeah, heel, toe, docie do Come on baby, let’s go boot scootin’ Oh cadillac, blackjack, baby meet me out back We’re gonna boogie Oh, get down, turn around, go to town Boot scootin’ boogie
The bartender asks me Says, son what’ll it be? I want a shot at that redhead yonder Lookin’ at me The dance floor’s hoppin’ And it’s hotter than the fourth of july I see outloaws, inlaws, crooks and straights All out makin’ it shake Doin’ the boot scootin’ boogie
Yeah, heel, toe, docie do Come on baby, let’s go boot scootin’ Oh cadillac, blackjack, baby meet me out back We’re gonna boogie Oh, get down, turn around, go to town Boot scootin’ boogie

I'm Just A Hoot Scootin Girl" Verse I was one of 8 children we didn't have alot , so I learned to be thankful for ev'rything I got I never owned red back boots to place upon my feet, or a hat to keep me covered from the pourin rain or heat First verse, I am one of eight children, and no I didn't have much, my parents couldn't afford to buy me a hat or boots, the only shoes I ever owned was school shoes until I got a bit older. Today I have copies of newspaper articles of our parents losing our home when I was three years old, a lot of things we had, was all given to us by wonderful people who helped my family out at a very traumatic time in their life.Chorus) I'm just a hoot scootin, country picking, pop rock type of girl followin my list of dreams just havin me some fun Time ain't gonna hold me back from enjoyin the world I'm makin up for wasted time to see and get things done The chorus is my personality, I'm a "hoot" if you get to know me, fun, easy going, happy,"scootin" I loved to roller skate when I was in my teens, that's were the "scootin" came from, country picking, pop rock type of girl, is me, I absolutely love all these genres. I actually stopped listening to Country Music a long time ago, but when I hear some of the old Country songs, they are still their, Rock, Pop, I used to go to the disco's in my teens and dance and sing my little heart out, [color:#000099]I had the best fun in my life.[/color] After listening to "Brooks and Dunn" song, I have heard it before after listening, but our song is nothing like it, and NO I didn't get Scootin from their great song, it's a good song hey.
It would be good if "Brooks and Dunn" would comment hah? No harm in dreaming! Verse I grew up lovin music hoped someday I'd learn to play tho the years came and went, the want never went away I'll write down some lines and verse try to get them to rhyme then I'll hum out the music from my heart and in my mind, Growing up, I loved listening to music, always thought about learning to play an instrument, but I struggled through school, not understanding music at all, the notes, etc, "I'll write down some lines etc" is me writing this song, it just comes to me, and with Gary's help it all came together, the melody is stuck in my head.Verse Now I've finished all the verses, and the lines to my song, and I've learnt how to set ,the Hook in good and strong I'm breaking in the words to my hoot scootin song now all that's needed is an audience to sing along The song is finished, but we are open for suggestions. I hope this explains it better. Thanks Michele © "I'm Just A Hoot Scootin Girl" 06-2009 by Gary D. Gray/Michelle Bolton All Rights Reserved

Michele,
I think people comment on your tunes because they care about you and like what you have going on. I don't see it as "arguing" about the lyrics. I just point out things that are my opinion. As such, you are free to take them or leave them. But, I try to do it honestly and in a helpful fashion. But pointing out issues can always lead to some appearance of negativity. If you think "hoot scootin'" works for you, then go for it.

Hi Kevin
I appreciate all of your comments, because I know you all care about me, I love and care about all of you too, sometimes I say things the wrong way, "arguing" I didn't mean it like that, and I do respect your opinion, and I listen, but I can't get caught in between Gary and You okay, because I care about you both, so understand how difficult it is for me, can't you too both work it out?????
Please let me help you both try and work it out in a private PM, life is too short hah, it would mean a lot to me if you would both TRY.
I have been thinking Kevin, since you said about "Scootin", maybe I could say, "I'm just a Fairdinkum, country picking, rock pop type of girl" would that make it better? I will talk to Gary about it, and see what else we can come up with, thanks for your input, I appreciate it.
Hugs Michele

Hi Joice
Thanks hey, I just said to Kevin, I thought something like,
"I'm just a fairdinkum, country picking, pop rock type of girl" maybe.
I will talk it over with Gary, and see what he thinks, maybe if we go this way, it will make a big difference to the song.

Michelle, About the title. I think JM said it very well. We've all done it inadverntently. There are some craft issues that were also mentioned. Things to keep in mind down the road. One other thing I'll mention is very few songs about songs or songwriters get anywhere. Those few that do are written by the performers. If this one reflects your own story that's cool and you should enjoy it as is and move on to the next one.
Gary, you can put me on your ignore list also, though I doubt it will be necessary.
Have fun, John

HiDee Mz Michelle & Uncle Gary!
I'm sure, given enough time, Gary'll get over his Superiority Complex. Meanwhile, Here's Your Hook, K-O-S, but of Course!
"I'm just a ROMP-LOVIN', KISS-COUSIN', POP-ROCKIN' GIRL"
(Ya get your Intraline-Rhymin' IN...Same FEEL, It's Condensed a Bit..and..heh..ya get both Family AND Eyebrow-raisin' IN a wee-wild-bit.)
Wish ya Both Great Success on it, Big Hugs, Ol' K-O-S Hisself, Stan
It's Overall FUN, and..the further-away from B&D it sounds, the better it's gonna work, Market-Wise.

To Stan's hook line I would make one slight change:
"I'm a romp-lovin, cousin kissin', pop-rocking girl"

Hi Betty Thanks for your input, but Gary and I don't think we will go that way hey, I appreciate your inputs though. No offense Stan, but this Aussie girl feels that Romp lovin, hmm, my love life is personal, as to Cousin Kissin, hmm, nah, sounds like I'm kissin my cousins, ohh, so I looked up the meaning of cousin, and this is what I found, cous⋅in   /ˈkʌzən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [kuhz-uhn] Show IPA Use cousin in a Sentence –noun 1. Also called first cousin, full cousin, cousin-german. the son or daughter of an uncle or aunt. 2. one related by descent in a diverging line from a known common ancestor, as from one's grandparent or from one's father's or mother's sister or brother. 3. a kinsman or kinswoman; relative. 4. a person or thing related to another by similar natures, languages, geographical proximity, etc.: Our Canadian cousins are a friendly people. 5. Slang. a gullible, innocent person who is easily duped or taken advantage of. 6. a term of address used by a sovereign in speaking, writing, or referring to another sovereign or a high-ranking noble. As to Romp, hmm, maybe with out the lovin, hey, here is the meaning of Romp that I found. romp (rŏmp) intr.v. romped, romp·ing, romps 1. To play or frolic boisterously. 2. To run or advance in a rapid or easy manner. 3. Slang To win a race or game easily. n. 1. 1. Lively, merry play; frolic. 2. Lively or frolicsome play that encompasses lovemaking. 2. One, especially a girl, that sports and frolics. 3. A rapid or easy pace. 4. Slang An easy win. Gary and I have a few idea's up our sleeve, but we do appreciate everyone's suggestions, cause maybe they come up with something that we haven't thought of, maybe when I record this, it could even stay as is, who knows hah, lets just wait and see. Aussie friend Michele

HiDee Again, Mz M!
Do keep Your Hook Short, Simple, and CATCHY!
As for "Romps"..they're not ALL "In The Hay" for pity's sake! A GOOD Rock Concert's a ROMP...a Trip to the Beach is a ROMP...etc!
Cousin' Kissing's a GIVEN in MANY-a-Culture/'tain't Always "Sexual-in-Nature" as ALL my French IN-Law's'll tell ya! (But I kinda LIKED the fact it'd raise eyebrows a scosh!)
I'd shed "type of"...& yeah, what-ya-got'll work if ya say simply "Pop-rockING girl" in what ya just sug'd.
Continued "Good Luck" To Yas! Big Hugs, Stan

we have an alternative for the 2 words that everyone thought was connected to the B&D group which it never was nor was even thought of when she sent it to me nor did I think of it being connected in any shape form or manner. It's funny how some times we read in what the writer or writers never had, anyway that's over and done with and we have an alternative that works as good if not better that I came up with if needed but who knows first thoughts are usually better so it could stay as planned because she's gonna sing it.

Hi Gary and Michelle,
Sorry for the tension I see flowing in here about your song, but it just shows that you are passionate about your writing. I hope this doesn't upset the apple cart by me giving a couple ideas, and of course you always know you can use or throw away lol.
I'm just a hoot'n holler'n, country loving, rockin type of girl
or
Im just a hoedown throwdown, country lovin, rockin type of girl
I think you have a nice story going and look forward to hearing the finished song with whatever you and Gary decide on.

Hey Gary,
If you ever make a comment that you wish someone death again on our boards, you'll be banned for life. Frankly I am not sure why I am even giving you a second chance as that's so unacceptable that it sickens me to allow you to stay.
You've been warned. Grow up and act professionally or go elsewhere.

Hi Gary and Michelle, I like the lyrics, they flow well and get the story across. Do you have music yet? I think it would be a great rocking country song.
I have to admit when I first read the lyrics I associated hoot scootin with boot scootin. Not that the songs are similar, it's just the phrase. Of all the suggestions to change it however I like Michelles the best:
"I'm just a Fairdinkum, country picking, rock pop type of girl"
Since the song is in the first person the word 'Fairdinkum' helps to not only describe the singer but also sets the song geographically.
Of course the downside is that most Americans have no idea what fairdinkum means. :-)
