Yes, Congratulations!
I was looking at the list, but I listened to so many I can only remember a few names. If I heard them again, I would remember though. I meant to write some of them down because they really appealed to me but my short term memory is like a sieve.
Or maybe I only voted for those few, and there's no accounting for taste, lol. Anyway congratulations again, Nominees, and congratulations to you, Brian and Linda.

I'm delighted! thanks for everything. Ancient Shadows nominee as best new album and Away as best new age song, I can't describe how happy I am. Also a fear fellow friend Jeff Oster is nominee in my category and I was equally happy I can't imagine the work behind all this

Hi Guys,
Congrats to you all. I did actually get a little sleep which was nice and woke up to the big news of the day about MJ and FF passing away. I have a feeling those stories will dominate the web and everything in media for the next 10 days or more. But I hope it doesn't take the attention off all of your achievements. Anyone who checked out the massive judging process knows that it's not small thing to get nominations after all that.
We're looking forward to see as many of you as possible at the awards show in August. Are you two going to be there?

Bill's stuff is really nice. I thought I had never heard his music before, but I learned, during the process this year, that he's actually done something more amazing than his acting career. He's part of Barne's and Barne's and they are the folks behind the seminal song of my childhood from the Dr. Demento Show: Fish Heads.
Sing along:
Fish Heads Fish Heads Roly, Poly, Fish Heads Fish Heads Fish Heads Eat Them Up Yum!
For me, that's as important as any other massive hit from my youth! = )

Congratulations, Brian!
I know it was a monumental task. I still feel guilty about not being able to finish any of categories you assigned me.
I scrolled through the song nominees and noted that a few of my favorite artists were there. I've downloaded just about everything Antje Duvekot has recorded. I also love Mary Gauthier. And I had picked the the The Gougers as a top album pick, so I was happy to see them there.
Congratulations to all the nominees too.

I'm really hoping to make it, but until it gets closer I won't know for sure. There's lots of people I'd love to see, plus I might get to pass the Lyricist torch

Yeah, we're trying to decide how we want to do awards this year in terms of announcing. With more categories than ever before, we need to consider not reading all the 2nd-6th places for songs and 2nd-4th places for albums. You've been to several awards Shandy, what do you think about that? It slows down the show.. but it means a lot to those getting the recognition (at least I think it does). Your thoughts?

I don't know... it doesn't seem like it would save that much time, but given the number of categories, it does add up, doesn't it? I personally wouldn't miss hearing that I came in 6th. I say skip the runners-up and if there's a riot, there's a riot and you can change back next year. If the results are posted in full on the site, then it shouldn't be an issue for nominees to check online later to see if they made the top 6.

I'd just like to say thanks for moving the show to Nashville this year. There is now at least a chance I can go....I'm proud to have helped a little with the judging.

It's great that it got this far... finally! I couldn't help going down this short list and see at least 3 or 4 folks (so far) that I know & recognize from these boards who have won nominations, wow!! Cheers and congrats to you all, you know who you are!

Just wondering...
How did you determine which category to put a artist album/songs in?
The submission card only called for: Writer/Artist/Band Name: Name of each album being entered (Use DEMO for non albums) Full Mailing Address: Home & Cell Phone Number (Inside Only): Valid Email Address (Inside Only): Website (if available Inside Only): Same Contact info for any representative other than Writer/Artist/Band if needed (Inside Only):
I was not nominated and that is fine, I know there was amazing competition. Besides, I was elated to see my friends band "ALU" make the nominations. Great choice! She is amazing!
However, I am very curious as to what category I was put in. As my album really changes in genre from song to song. Thus the album name: Orbis Pictus. It was a collage of different styles. Will I be able to find this out?
Also, when do you announce the music video nominations?
Thank you so much for this community and for allowing me to be part of it and part of the competition. I am very proud to be in the company of such great artist.
Sincerely, Casey Fallen

Hi Casey,
We definied the categories we use on the awards section (there's links all over the website by the nominations etc.).
Music can be moved around during the process, sometimes many times. That's because a given album can have multiple nominations and a given song may fit in more than 1 genre based on a variety of factors. So even if I told you where it started (I think it was Rock where multi-genre albums often start) it could have been moved at any point after the start when a better fitting genre materialized. We do general categorization at the start and narrow in as we progress and we find which groupings of music make sense. But if your album had lots of genres, more likely than not, that is where it started out. If it wasn't "rock like" then Male S/S would have been possible. Without hearing you personally, I don't know for sure.
Don't sweat not making the nominations, it was such a large field that we had all levels of folks including some very well known entrants that didn't make it.
I like the Alu stuff as well. Very cool sound.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the reply! I know you have your hands full! : )
I am very thankful to be in such great company on this site. So no worries on the nominations. : ) This album has done very well and I am about to finally release my new album. So giving this album one last hoorah was fun.
Look forward to seeing the Music Video nominations.
Will those be announced here on the site?
Casey

Hi Brian
Don't know how you keep up with the questions. You're magnificent! I received a nomination as a complete surprise. When the first email came out I checked under the song section and then didn't bother with the albums! Thank you. The recognition means a lot!
Regarding the award show itself do you get sold out and acts booked very early? Reason being that there is a slight chance that myself and a colleague MAY be able to get over. It's a slight one and we won't know until at least the middle of July. I was wondering whether you have contingencies [late registration, held-back tickets etc.] in place for overseas acts.
Best

Casey,
We'll see if we have enough in each sub category to have awards (i.e. the mix of stuff we already have plus what is added on the web). We will have a live artist award no matter what, but we don't offer nominees for that specifically. And we're still figuring out what to do with the lyric category, but I imagine we'll figure it out and that will be a green light too. We'll announce anything that is nominated in the newsletter along with other awards updates.

John,
We posted at nearly the exact same time so I didn't see your question.
The venue is a fairly cavernous one and can hold more folks than we expect to have, so I don't think we'll have trouble getting you in no matter what because there are Standing Room only options upstairs. You'd still get a seat, just not a table. So if we have the problem (which frankly, I want to have) that the downstairs tables are all full, we can fit you in upstairs. We also always have late cancellations so we can often get folks in there as well on those since folks will have tickets they want to sell to others. We also work to help out those traveling from overseas.
If you need an answer to a question and don't get it here for some reason, you can always email me directly. jpfolkspro@aol.com

By the way John, we may be over in your neck of the woods the week after the awards show. We're not sure where we'll be when exactly yet, but our plan right now is to visit the UK and Ireland a week after the awards for 5 weeks. But with the cost of money (i.e. exchange US Dollars for Euros or the UK Pound) it may be too cost prohibitive. So we haven't finalized anything yet.
