Teresa (c)2009 Steven M. Biederman/Chad G. Smith http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7617590[verse 1] Morning broke softer Than newborn skin As an old sunflower Rattled in the wind I was sitting on a flat rock Wishing I was bolder Watching the leaves drop And thinking things over [pre-chorus 1] The sun was rising Like a bright idea And the wind was whispering… Teresa Teresa [chorus] So I ran – What felt like miles Through the cornfields, Past the silos I was on fire – When I tore my pants On the home-free side Of her barbed wire fence I never did tire – And I never will And the wind whispers still… Teresa (v2) Some time later In a hot dry spell I gazed up at the sky Like I was searching for help I was sitting on the tractor Kicking up clover Watching the dust blow And mowing things over [pre-chorus 2] The sun was setting On the ol’ cantina But, the wind was whispering… Teresa Teresa Repeat Chorus [Bridge] I made her promises I intend to keep – But, when a lack of water Brings a man to his knees Nothing feels better Than a good stiff breeze And so I run What feels like miles Through the cornfields, past the silos I'll be on fire As I hang my pants on the chair beside our wedding bed I never get tired And I never will And the wind whispers still... Teresa

Loved this one, Steve - your imagery is always great - makes me feel like I'm right there. Lots of great lines (like an old sunflower rattled in the wind) in this and I did NOT see the happy ending coming. Only thing I'm not sure about is the note you're hitting on the end of "Theresa" (when it goes high). Wonder if it would be effective to shift to a falsetto there? Really dig this! Scott

Hi Steve
I Love the whole thing conceptually --- BUT --- there's a Missing link --- the bridge explains that you gave into the wind...... But lyrically the Gap cannot be missed if One looks at it....? don't have an answer - but I would like it in there --- maybe when he tore his pants..
musically my favorite part is the Hook ; ) Nice job. jm

Thanks Scott. Yeah, I really struggled and strained to get that note in there. I'm battling Bronchitis and my voice is about gone at this point. I had trouble singing anything, especially the high notes there and in the BVs. I tried a falsetto in the BVs and it almost killed me. My voice will be shredded for a week I'm afraid, hehe. Thanks again my friend.

Hi Stevie, I like this a lot, from the Byrds-y rhythm guitar, to the nice background vocals. The lead singer is a little flat on his "Teresa" high note. Very fixable. Very nice tune. Mike

Steve,
Ah, you caught the feel of the late 60s, early 70s for me. loved the b/g voices! The only nit I have has already been mentioned...the somewhat flat note on "Teresa". Shoud be easily corrected when the voice gets better. Cool song!

Hey Little ej! Another nice one dusted off and shined up! I so wish you could track down Chad, he would be sooo happy about this musical revival. Love all the details...both the minutiae and the grandeur of nature, affecting our story-teller. I think my favorite parts are your pre-choruses, especially this one: The sun was setting On the ol’ cantina But, the wind was whispering… Teresa TeresaHope your throat feels better soon..... Hi Steve,
Very nice song, I like that the imagery is a little unusual and the way the story is told holds the listener's interest all the way through. Of course the music is great, as expected and the harmonies really fill out the sound. Take care of that voice, it's such a fine asset!

Great stuff, Little Stevie! Yeah, that's a great line Mark. Chad wrote some obscure lyrics that I and others on the board back then loved. I also like "The sun was rising like a bright idea, and the wind was whispering...Teresa". Thanks so much for the listen and kind words, Mark. I enjoy your stuff as well. Steve

Do I hear a little Beach Boys in there also, along with the Byrds? Nice combination of sounds. I think that the tone of your voice is good. I like the melody for "Teresa." The overall instrumentation and use of the backup singing is quite effective.

Hi, Steve. I agree about the notes. Ran was a little flat too. Bronchitis will get in the way every time. Very nice melody. Definitely has a 60's flavor to it, but fresh. You told just enough of the story to give us a very good picture of what was going on. Loved the imagery. Nicely done.

Thanks Al,
I guess I'm a musical fossil of sorts..stuck in that era of music. But I try to bring my own style to the table albeit with influences of the music I love.

Thanks for the listen and comments Beth. Personally my favorite line is "The sun was rising like a bright idea." As for Chad, I've tried everyway I know how to find him but have had no luck. Maybe someday he'll resurface. Thanks again,
Steve

I like the Pop sounds of the Byrds you have going on...the only area I thought it needed a melody pick me up was in the chorus...it sounded a little montone and not varied enough...you didn't ask for a critique so we'll say it is just my observation...
Really like the lyrics...wish I could do that...great job!!

Thanks Tom for the listen and comments. Yeah, you hear some Beach Boys influence there. The Bah, bah, bahs just came to me when I was filling it out.

What a cracking song. I just loved all the harmonies. The lyrics sure conjured up an image and drew me right in. Splendid job.
