Okay so you know I love classic Kung Fu Movies and Westerns, well we can't just go east & west we gotta go up too lol...
I'm an TOS (The Original Series) Star Trek fan, big time! I collected all 79 episodes on VHS years ago. one or two at a time. I had to travel to find them all. Watched them since I was as a child. My Dad used to watch it even though years later he said he didn't lol.. I was mesmerized by it in 1967 and a big fan by the mid 70's.

Well coming in May Star Trek Season One will be released on Blu Ray
Man it's gonna be awesome! First of all Technicolor is AWESOME to begin with. I LOVE
the look of shows like Star Trek & even Batman as everything is just COLOR
Big- Reds,Blue Yellow Green, Black, Orange.

What is very cool is the DVD set is gonna give you the option to watch the series
with new FX added as well as new soundtrack 7.1 Surround OR you can watch it with the exact way it was with the old mono soundtrack.

It will cool to see what subtle effects things they do... I saw a clip and it was very cool....

Either way the transfers re-mastered are gonna be awesome on blu ray. Plus great special features, behind the scenes bonus stuff.....

Along with The series season one they will release the Star Trek Movies!
I have an enjoy all the Star Trek movies but my favorite is still Wrath Of Kahn

Actually all the even numbered movies are my favorite and the best ones to me.
2- Wrath Of Khan
4- Voyage Home
6- Undiscovered Country

Anyway I can't afford to buy the set at $80 now, but if I could of course I would.. Well back then I bought the 79 tapes at $13 each plus tax that's over $1,000 dollars on the series. Then all the movies on tape and dvd. smile

So what's your FAVORITE original series episodes? Or maybe your Top 3

My favorite may be "Mirror Mirror"

Where the crew beams up on the wrong ship in an alternate universe. Remember?
Spock with the beard?

"Live Long And Prosper"

Yeah, okay, I'll fess up. I'm a geek for the original Star Trek.

I did what you did in about '86, videotaped every episode off the TV with bad reception and all. I've since lost most of them or recorded over them...but once in awhile I'll pop one in and marvel at the old commercials.

I loved the characters, I loved Shatner's over-the-top bravura performances, and his sex addiction grin , and Nimoy's perfect Spock characterization, and the goofy effects when they all sway in their chairs, and the Red Alert, and the trouble with Tribbles, and when Uhura said "Bloo-ey?" and the way Scotty always ended up fixing nuclear reactors with a socket wrench, and how McCoy tended to freak out all the time.

I loved Roddenberry's vision of the future.

I REALLY loved it when I was a kid, bummed when it was canceled, fantasized about some of the women, especially the green belly dancer, OMG, and once had a terrifying, bedwetting nightmare about this guy:

OK, my favorite TOS episode was "City on the Edge of Forever."

To be completely honest, TOS was not my favorite series in the franchise. I really liked "Deep Space Nine" as it was grittier with lots of political intrigue.

My favorite movie in the franchise would have to be "Generations", [Trekkies stop reading now] because that is the one where Kirk dies twice! whistle

It figures we would have yet another thing in common.

Yes! That is another favorite of mine... That is from the episode called "Arena"
And that creature is The Gorn.

Actually I love every episode smile But certain ones always come to mind first.
And that's one for sure....

Star Trek is awesome plain and simple from the desk top computers and flat screens, to the flip cell phone like communicators.

The effects were stunning for that period but the stories and characters is what took the cake. GREAT writing!

The green woman is from the pilot "The Cage" with Captain Pike before Kirk.
I thought Jeffery Hunter was excellent and would have done great in the show as well.

Thanks!

Hi Kev

City On The Edge was a fantastic episode. The original series was loaded with political issues, race issues, and a hundred other issues and plenty of action.
As I tried many times to give all the later shows a chance including "Next Generation" It never worked for me.

Spock's character perhaps the best TV as ever known is just irreplaceable.
I think it was actually voted in the top 3 all time.

Later on in TNG I felt Data along with others were just too lame a character for me and the fact that it took 4 characters on the show to match Kirk & Spock always threw me off. Who is the leader Picard or Ryker? And the Klingon being the Alien on the bridge and Data (computer) was both roles for Mr Spock. The Vulcan and it's whole planet history was much more "Fascinating" to me smile

Once I watched one TNG episode and they talked about the flavor of ice cream for the first 15 minutes of the show smile In the original series they were usually in a serious mess in 5 minutes. The show felt weak to me, weak characters with little to no passion.

I did really enjoy the second movie they did with The Borgs
Picard actually had a phaser rifle lol. Being an ACTION captain. The kind people want to see in the movies!!! Not a politician. lol

After that series I never gave the rest a chance...... They were still Star Trek so I'm happy it lived for newer and younger generations to enjoy & follow. But lke most things nothing tops the original Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek

I look forward to seeing the new movie on DVD,hopefully it won't be too lame and
lovey dovey.. I LOVE lame and lovey dovey stuff in other movies... Not in my Star Trek... Unless it is the loyalty and love of 3 friends smile

Thanks!
Peace Mike

When Star trek is a hit in the whole world I was a kid and we are under martial law. Movies are screened back then and the only way we can watch the episode in through pirated betamax. The talented bootleggers copy some of it inside the US bases here.

Im glad they revive it for us to absorb whats in the story that makes the trekies so gaga about it.

Someday Im gona be a trekies too. LOL

So beam me up mike....

Mike,

I've seen all of the Star Trek movies, and most of the series as well.

I learned about Star Trek when I started dating my wife, who was a big Star Trek fan like her brother. At first when she introduced the series to me, I found it to be like a soap opera.. sort of Dallas or Dollars like, just with other themes.

But as I watched more and more, it grew on me, and I especially like that the producers go through fire to get the science in the series right. This is something that caracterize good science fiction for me, that they make a thorough effort researching the stuff they write about.

Allthough I liked the original film a lot when I saw them the first time, I don't really revisit them today. I like the newer series a lot better, and actually I've never really thought Star Trek was too successful in films. For me the tv series are a lot more enjoyable, anyway.

My favorites now are the most recent, Voyager, Enterprise and Deep Space Nine. At the moment we're watching the Enterprise series with Capt. Archer, T'Pol and Trip. Loving those characters! Actually, the lyric I recently posted in Lyric Forum 3 "Diamonds Don't Burn"

http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthr...t&topic=0&Search=true#Post711561

was inspired by Trip, who used that line in one of the shows. It went elsewhere for me, when I was writing, but the hook I started out with, was directly inspired by one of his lines in the tv show. I do have several lyrics, who came about like that, inspired from lines in Star Trek!

But Im sorry I can't really rank the originals, I actually am too absent minded to even remember them in detail, so I guess I'll pass on that. Never been good at remembering, probably the main reason I never became an artist. Today Im happy, I don't have those working hours and have to travel big cities all the time.

I'd rather be at home travelling space, and just wanted to share some great Star Trek memories with you, just for fun, Mike..

Yeah, "City on the Edge of Forever" is hard to beat. First off it was written by Harlan Ellison, one of the best Science Fiction Writers who ever lived. (A Boy and His Dog anyone? )

Then it had the young Joan Collins in it.

And don't you sometimes wish colors really looked like this?

And finally, of course, McCoy freaks out:

I still like "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and "The Brain That Wouldn't Die". They're not Star Trek, but very cheesy movies.

I loved Star Trek when I was a teen and never missed an episode. I remember when they said that it was going off the air and enough fans responded to the announcement and so it was granted a reprieve. I was disappointed after the reprieve though and didn't think the subsequent episodes were as good as the earlier ones. When I see the show now, I just chuckle and wonder why I liked them so much.

I liked the next generation series and Captain Picard. I wonder if I will feel the same way about that series in a few years as I do the original Star Trek.

Still I have to admit it was very innovative for its time and I always thought Spock was pretty cool. I got to meet the actor who played Spock's father. (Can't remember his name.) He was a cast member of the short lived "Here Come the Brides" TV show. I got to meet him during an outside shooting session. I also met David Soul who was starring in the show.

I got married on the bridge of the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D) and had a Klingon witness. AND I have the pictures to back it up! I'll post one later if you want.

Fav eps from the original... hmm... I'll have to take some time to think on that one. But I will say one of them is probably The Man Trap... seriously, that Salt Vampire freaks me out, haha.

Great stuff guys!

Brian Dorn Post that photo. that is so crazy cool!

As a BIG surprise to me my wife got me Season One Star Trek Blu Ray.

It is AWESOME! There are some down sides but... I'll list them below.

1- UP -First off the picture is stunning, like you have never seen it before.

DOWN - Only it does run a bit dark, but if you make a slight adjustment to your Tv it is perfect.

2- DOWN - It's probably just my player but it sticks here and there, My player is clean and it seems to happen whenever the places where the new effects were put in. BUT it stutters even with the old effects

3- UP- The New Effects & Music- These people LOVED Star Trek and have great repect and love for the original people who made the show happen.
They did not go over board on the new effects. They are especially of the out side of the ship and space shots. Even though GREAT for there time those were the worst
of the effects.

The new score is a replica of the original by Alexander Courage. It sounds GREAT!
7.1 Surround.

4 - UP - You can choose to view it with the new effects or the original ones.
Also the new 7.1 surround sound or the original mono sound.

5 - Down- They are not in exact order. Looks like they used the airing order insetad of episode order. Dumb move... Why would I want to see McCoy in the first episode when he is NOT in the first few episodes

6 - UP -Great bonus features - You have to see the film about the re-mastering process and the re-score of the music.
Great bonus interviews and other cool stuff....

This is a great box set! I LOVE it!

Thanks!
Peace Mike

My wife and I got go see The Menagerie Part I & II a while back on the big screen. I was really impressed with new effects. Everything was done very tastefully; they didn't go overboard on the new stuff. I can't wait to get it!

I'm writing from my phone, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to post some pics. smile
