So, another one of your serious songs! Love it, Calvin. The imagery made me chuckle, and I love the bridge, especially that "Not yet" at the end of it. I'll bet your "mangy mutt" likes this too. Donna

Calvin, John and Donna
Lol, Calvin, I swear, you ought to bottle what you got and market it as laughing syrup. Anytime I want to smile, I can count on you for a Dog Gone good song to make me.
Thanks Calvin

Hee Hee, You Three! Animals, humor, double-entendres.....what more could a girl ask for (well, maybe that first part doesn't sound right...! )?! Once again, I do wonder about inspiration here -- I understand DM and John were involved, which is a helpful clue ....but what EXACTLY got you all on this subject (the DOG part of it, I mean )? Regardless, this is a fun romp. I thought it was clever the way you set-up the story with your pre-chorus, then rolled out the rest of the song. While there are gads of groovy parts, this is my favorite couplet: Some playful pooches Love to give some smoochesWhat a magnificent rhyme! (In a pinch...you could even bring in The Three STOOGES !!) Anyhoo, thanks for sharing this, Calvin -- though I was a bit thrown off by this real-life avatar!! Chou-chou ( ) for now, Beth P.S. That "barking up the (wrong) tree" might be another worthwhile hook to explore. Could go a lot of interesting ways....

Hi Calvin, With your imagination, somehow I can't picture you at a loss for a good song, dog gone or otherwise Very clever. About your avatar, is that a lampshade on your head or are you just happy to be here? Ricki

Hi Ricki, Thank you for giving this one a listen. I always appreciate your thoughts. Well, you KNOW I'm happy to be here. What you're referring to behing me is a... old apron that has been framed, although it does resemble a lamp shade I guess. But yeah, I've probably had a few lamp shades on my head at one time or another Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart

Hi Calvin. I just now saw this, couldn't help but notice since it's right next to a song that I put up called Doggone. lol. But anywany, just wanted you to know, it's the first time I saw your song and didn't want you to think I was trying to be a copycat. As I just said on my song, the lyrics to Doggone were written in 2006 by myself and Mike Frisbey, who recently passed away after a bout with cancer. They're doing a special tribute in his honor on his website and I asked James Ryce to put some music to the song to put in the tribute section. I guess it's merely a coincidence about the similiarity in titles, but didn't want you to think it was intentional.

Calvin, This made me smile all the way through Very sweet, clever, cute., sung with your typical understatement, but here it makes funny lines even funnier. The only thing I could think to add would be to get your dog in on the song, maybe splice him in at an appropriate moment... best wishes, Mike

Calvin,
Ah, just what i needed. it's been a really rough 2 or 3 weeks for me and Helen. Needed a pick me up. I just found it...thanks!
Slight shades of "ritt" here ... you remember "ritt" (Richard Blum), I think. he sometimes goes by "rittmo" and piosted under the moniker of "Sweetjoyce". Well, this had bits and pieces of his off-base hunor. Sweet!
Alan

HI Calvin,
No nits for a very cool song.
I think it would suit a cartoon really well, or the main theme of a series with this sort of dog as the hero. Is there any such cartoon on American TV, whose producer you could pitch the song to? I for one would enjoy to follow the adventures of a dog like that. Well done.
Take care, Yann.
