Just sharing this. I was sifting through some songs/ CDs / postings and just listened through the CD released by my 1st band.

Afterschool's first album was released by BMG in 1996. Unfortunately, we broke up a few months after the release as the members all had plans beyond music. I played keyboards, wrote all the songs and sang lead and backup vocals.

The album "Sleeping With The Lights On" had very good reviews. The first single was a top 10 radio hit and was used by ABS-CBN in Judy Ann Santos' drama series :

The title track

My favorite track

This song was a finalist in the Metro Manila Songwriting Festival

Coolest track
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=53923&songID=352980

All these were recorded on analog tapes! Then digitally mixed and mastered.

This was during the days of generous royalty schedules - I had enough advanced royalties to help purchase my first car!

Darius

You can also post it in mp3 thread.

Im wondering whats beyond music your band members are talking about. To me music is the highest form of expression. Im glad your post here is quite different. Now Im happy.

This is what Brian wanted us to do.

Even with high paying gigs back in the 90s, the band members had no illusions that this "hobby" can feed a family.

We had other things beyond music. The drummer is a math genius and a Mensa member (and the original drummer of Color it Red). The female vocalists migrated to Hawaii and Canada to be models and housewives. The other band members were just as smart.

There are a lot of things beyond music.

so why are you still in the music biz?

If you betting for immortality music is the key. If you betting for money music wont give you any.

Music writing is not a HOBBY to me. This is PASSION. Passion can not feed you either. Hobby yes I known a lot of folks here with a hobby that earns a lot of money.

Music professional who took a college degree like major in piano, voice, guitar, violin are they doing it for hobby?

Come on darius you have more reason why you are still here. Want me to tell the reasons? This is my observation and this can be wrong I praying im wrong.

1. Youve been too long in our local music industry but you still at the bottom of the foodchain. You try to come out and break in your so called shell but you came too short or sometimes you overshoot your target.

2. You love to bully others while in their infancy of their career and hide in your aliases so you can bully more. So what do you get. No pals but tons of nemesis.

3.Your band mates left you because you are arrogant you feel you are the GOD in their music world. Some left the country because they dont see any improvement from your part as their leader who control everything. They feel if they form a new one you will hound them like a rabid wolf. They thought back then that the moment they popularized YOUR song you gain more in the songwriter royalty part while they get only a loose change of artist royalties because the way how you treat them they are all session musicians. Like a soldier in battlefield they can be replaced anytime and any moment of you likings.
Then you can buy a new car while you kick you band member to go abroad because you brainwashed then that there is no money in music.

4.You hate to accept rejection. The moment we reject your song you immediately create a vendetta mode in our company. Not because you been in the industry for very long it doenst mean your betting average to song pitching is high. In fact you pitch only one song. If you pitch 10 then probably this converstions doenst exist. Probably you are on my side not on matanglawin side.

5.You spend most of the time pissing other people works. Not all songwriters here lurks in your forum where you dominates like philmusic or songwriterPH. I tell you if they can able to read all you generalized comment to some of the songs published to us and you are not offering anything like suggestion maybe then more and more of our kababayan will hate you.

Well I have more but I think this will be enough at the moment.

I have a hobby too. GArdening, reading and listening to music is my hobby.
Hobby is the things you write in slum book when you are in high school and it changes overtime.

Oh i forgot
Try to se the Eraserheads.
They earning a lot from royalties. Probably if you are more adamant in the past and continue your so called HOBBY probably you are one my idols placed in my pedestal

What a load of bull and wrong conclusions from someone who doesn't know the story of this mainstream band who achieved more success than you. Suffice it to say that the members of this band have minds that have the same frequency- and no illusions. And no intentions of selling out. Individually, they are smarter than you. As a group, we are way way way ahead of you.

I bet you'd kill to get a major label deal. Well you don't have one. That's a fact. How sad. Your one "passion" and you're doing so badly at it.

Too bad your "passion" for music doesn't translate to anything of value. How sad. I suggest you just concentrate on gardening. Maybe you can create better gardens than songs.

As I said Im praying Im wrong in certain points we dont need to debate on that. I already said the disclaimer thing. But Im right in certain things.

Well they are smarter than us no comment. Our company are the dumb asses here who struggle for cheap scraps that scattered on the floor.

We dont need a major record deal. We can stand in our own. In fact we released the album without the backup of major labels. Life of these songs are already starting now just like your song circa 1990. You just born early and produced that song early on the game where you said "Royalties are generous" I envied that period.

My hobby gardening gave me some vegetables to eat. Isnt that nice?

You are to judgemental in my songs. Ok just wait when one of this song hit the chart I will give you some of my harvest as a treat to your pessimism.

I don't want to dignify your "conclusions" by answering point by point. Let me just say this straight to your face - your conclusions are all WRONG. Zero out of five.

People have different talents. We have a talent in music. You have a talent in gardening. We're different, so don't impose your thought process on us.

And please, don't point fingers on arrogance. One click on my sig will reveal how you maligned Kedy Sanchez, a respected name in the Philippine music industry- someone who has worked in all the major labels and who continues to play great music.

But of course. Nobody needs a major label record deal.

Nobody needs a Ferrari too. But you'd kill to get one.

Get my analogy?

Some people make music because there is music to make. They are those who are not driven by the glits and glamor or the cha-ching, but the beats of the music. These people tried to leave music behind, but how can they when the music is WITHIN them.

I have no such illusions.

You, on the other hand, have this illusion (un-original, BTW) :

Kaya pag nag start ka ang tawg ko sa yo padawan. Ako kasi padawan pa rin dahil wala pa akong padawan.
