My Three year old was coloring today

This is great writing. Simple and beautiful, and very natural, the way the singer "comes to" the hook via the child's innocent question.

It touched me the first time through with its directness; I think you have a real winner here...

This is another one of those Great ideas and Hook - but I think you need to rewrite it several ways to find the best...

as it stands -- you have 3 clunky verses to set up your chorus - which , by design (just looking at it on the page) is going to be quite different musically....

one approach is to get right to the chorus --- mom doesn't have to think .... she tells him love can be yellow or blue......

write it from several directions... jm

oh.... and I had not even considered the sexual innuendo - but yeah that's a possibility too

I think what I am feeling is that you do not yet have a real 'musical' form for this, and because I think the hook and concept are very strong , it would be worth the effort of exploring it in some other arrangements. jmho jm

To me it reads like she is only talking to her son in the chorus. Elsewhere she is "thinking aloud"...

I have to agree with Joice here. Think you need to get to the chorus sooner - perhaps move one of the verses to after the first chorus. Had more thoughts too . . . but will have to come back on them. Nice idea here.

I like the simplicity of this lyric .. it's simple yet speaks real loud.
My first thought is that it takes too long to get to the chorus as is its 12 lines before you get there...guess that depends on the music/tempo.. just a thought.

Haven't been around much, trying to get back in the groove.

I was immediately drawn to your hook, and the premise of your story is quite clever. I wonder if you could even take it a step further though -- or this might be another song entirely. What if you considered love as a PRISM somehow; it's see-thru, as you've illustrated, but it also casts different colored lights depending on the circumstances...and this would literally add another dimension to your illustration. I also think it might lend some extra credence to your hook -- because by classifying love as strictly see-thru, you're negating the colors "seen" by some of the people you've described. And for the most part, those other colors are legitimate.

I'm not exactly sure how you'd incorporate this idea -- even if you wanted to -- but I think it might make it a bit stronger. And since you have so much storyline up front in the verses, this might allow you to pull your chorus forward....and play them back and forth a bit more.

ANYHOO, I hope this makes sense. It's a novel idea, and I think it's worth flushing out some...

I think it may be a new song in the works to make it about the colors love can be.... I didnt want to say the color of a rainbow or prism because I didnt want any colors to appear left out. But to write about how love seems different colors are different stages is something I may do, with some similiar lines, but more adult. thanks, Kim:-)
