Hello All,
I know everyone's super busy, but in the midst of changing my postings to green ink today in honor of St. Patrick's Day, I thought it might be a fun opportunity to post a quick challenge.
I haven't got an entry yet (maybe that'll give me some incentive!) but the parameter is simple:
Come up with a lyric/song with the word GREEN in your title.
Could be in the context of jealousy, money, eco-friendly, or boogers -- the possibilities are endless!
Have fun!!
Beth

Green Around The Gills C Wyman Griffith <G>
I was green around the gills In them Oklahoma hills Caused by that moonshine Brought from Arkansas Gave my pony just a snort And he began to cavort And we both got pulled in By the law
They gave me a D U I I said it didn't apply Cause there was no motor On that horse you see They said well that's rough You were drivin sure enough They put 'im in the cell Right next to me
Now my pony's pretty tough So when we sobered up I sez to my pony Kin you kick us outa here He said sure I can do And the bricks and mortar flew He hit for the hills Left me sittin there

Just tossing this into the ring. Admittedly, I did not spend a lot of time on it, but I'm pleased I was finally able to come up with something that could conceivably pass as a song!! !! I'll come back to comment on Wy's and Joice's entries in a bit! Kids due home rom school in a few minutes, blah blah blah. In the meantime, I hope everyone's having a great green day!! Beth "Never Seen Green" Ó 2008 lyrics Beth Williams, BMI
When we first met and love was new The world was painted a rose-colored hue Until the day came we were stalled at a light And when it turned green, you said FINALLY, it’s WHITE!
I laughed and said baby you’re really a clown But my man wasn’t smiling -- just driving to town And then I thought back to some things that were funny Like how he had trouble distinguishing money….
And then it all hit me Like a train full of steam Oh it couldn’t be true I wanted to scream Though now it made sense Why he didn’t like beans A color blind boyfriend Was it just a bad dream? So I took I deep breath And asked “What do you mean?” He saw my expression And thought best to come clean I’ll tell you the truth But don’t make a scene Back there, red turned white I’ve never seen green
He pulled the car over and opened the door Took off our shoes put them down on the floor He reached for my hand, said let's sit by that tree I want to explain what no green means to me
Some green is good and some green is not Just two of the latter -- envy and snot You know I recycle, love the smell of cut grass And oh yes some are both -- broccoli gives me gas
Tag: My man is a genius whose never seen green And his heart is pure gold, though it’s never been seen….

Hi Wy....
That has to be from an episode of "F-Troop" or "Andy Griffith" or something. Or at least it should've been. That's one funny little ditty. Could prob'ly tuck-in/delete a word here and there, but this is a strictly for fun one day and one day only event.
Thanks for playing!!
Beth
P.S. Heck, I'm still chuckling about the visuals you conveyed so merrily!!

Hey Beth. I did just that a couple of post ago with my song, "Little and Green" Here it is once again:
Little and Green (05/30/01)
(Intro.) When I was little and green.
(V) When I was little, when I was green and things that I saw weren’t always seen. Life was a mystery, from safe in my bed. Mom and I’d travel in the books that she read. When I was little and green.
(V) When I was little, when I was green. I stayed in the bath ‘til squeaky clean. Once in my PJ's off to bed I would go. Mommy and me and Pinocchio. When I was little and green.
(Chorus) There was Cat in the Hat, there was Winnie the Pooh. Dumbo could fly, Peter Pan too. A pig, rat and spider were very best friends. Sometimes I’d cry when the stories would end. When I was little and green.
(V) When I was little, when I was green. I lived in a kingdom where mommy was queen. Daddy and me were fearless white knights. Who’d search ‘till they found poor little Snow White. When I was little and green. (Chorus)
(V) I’m no longer little, no longer green. Way past eleven and long past sixteen. Life’s still a mystery but I keep up to speed. Along with my daughter in the books that we read. While she’s still little and green.

Hey Joice and Kaley,
You know, I don't think I ever heard this third and so-lovingly-produced version....
I do remember the haunting-in-a-good-way melody, but JM, I don't think I've ever heard your voice sound SO good!!! Really beautiful, soaring up and down and all around.
Thanks so much for bringing this back to our attention. (I'm only sorry Kaley is in such discomfort while we're enjoying this again. )
Hope you're having a keen green day!!
Beth

Oh Doug....
I hadn't seen this. Oh my. Such a wonderful song. Love these passing on family tradition-type songs...and your use of the hook is spot on. From the beginning to end, you held my hand and led me thru this time of innocence...right up until you do the same for your daughter....
And it's such a tender reminiscence (sp?)...really got me teary-eyed. Of course, my era too, so I loved all the details....
Gosh...."when I was little, when I was green"....just terrific.
Did I mention that I liked this?
Happy St. Paddy's to you too and thanks for sharing!!!
McBeth

Hi Calvin,
Thanks for joining in the last-minute festivities here. I'm also enjoying your choice, simply because it sets up a fun juxtaposition to your song with Donna and Joice.
And it's classic YOU. You put it all out there -- in a quirky format -- with a mix of sarcasm, wisdom and naughtiness. And how cool you were able to incorporate Stacy, Cindy AND Ramona. You should actually pull a song together with all your quirky characters , a la "to all the girls I loved before"....
Anyway, I thought your chorus was excellent:
You can take your reds and yellows You can keep your blacks and blues We only need one color And here's the one we choose We like green, we like green
It pretty much says it all, huh?
Again, thanks for sharing!!
Beth

ok, here's a really quick one...sorry but hey, it's just out of my lil' ole head:
Prettiest Boy I'd Ever Seen
Just ask bout Ronnie Green Prettiest lil' boy I'd ever seen fell in love with him in first grade carved our names on that ole' oak tree kissed me under the shade I remember the promises that we made...
We would marry in the month of May have 2 kids, boy for him, girl for me but, then in junior high he moved away... broke my heart this young boy Ronnie Green still was the prettiest boy i'd ever seen
In the summer of my high school year was working at the Dairy Queen wiping tables one day heard a fimilar voice say I've been looking for you my dear
Looked up, starring me in the eyes was the prettiest boy i'd ever seen Yes, standing in front of me was my long lost love, Ronnie Green told me he still was in love with me
And he'd be honored if I'd marry him He looked at me with his eyes of green still the prettiest boy i'd ever seen fell in love with him again and today of all days St. Patricks Day
well, ok, it was really quick, but it's still kinda cute....glyn

Hi Beth, wanted to get this "green lyric" in before midnight. Each Chorus is just a little different lyrically “A Little Green”©2009 Lynn OrloffNever been in love before This is all so very new But if what I’m feeling now is love Baby it’s because of you So forgive me if I stumble with the words I wanna say This is something unfamiliar but you won’t hear me once complain… I’ve never been in love, I’m still a little green The only thing I know of love’s what I watched on movie screens No I’ve never been in love, didn’t know how it would be But aren’t I the lucky one cos it’s my turn…finallyCan’t say I saw it coming Guess I must've missed the signs Seems it snuck up kind of quietly Yeah it took me by surprise If I seem alittle nervous, babe I hope you understand Something happens that I can't explain everytime I hold your hand I’ve never been in love, I’m still a little green The only thing I know of love’s what I read in magazines No I’ve never been in love, didn’t know how it would be But aren’t I the lucky one cos it’s my turn…finally BridgeNow I know why I’ve heard people say that love’s the greatest thing It’s like my heart was standing still until you came and gave it wings.. No I’ve never been in love, oh yeah I'm still a little green All I know is what I’m feeling now makes it real darn hard to breathe And even though I didn’t know how lucky someday I might be It’s all for real the way I feel and it’s my turn It’s my turn, it’s my turn….finally

Hey Glynda, Actually, I'm a big fan of quickie's ( ), so I thought this was actually sweet. Sure a little cutesie, but that's what St. Patrick's Day is all about. Good luck and finding that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. What I thought was especially endearing was that those little first grade feelings might grow into a more mature love.... As an aside, I'm always asking my kids if they think they've met the person they will marry yet (they're 8 and 10) !! They don't have to LIKE them at the moment, but have their paths crossed in some way? Occasionally I get a yes from both of them, but no specifics. But let's worry about making it respectively to 3rd and 5th grades first!! Thanks for playing Glynda. I hope your eye is feeling better, and that those horrible headaches have dissipated. Have a good evening. Beth

Hi Lynn, This is just sweet as all get-go. So romantic, and tender, and innocent. I do like the evolving choruses, and it's subtle, just like the beginning of a new and welcome relationship. Ultimately, this is the heart of the song: It’s all for real the way I feel and it’s my turn It’s my turn, it’s my turn….finally Pretty wild how many interpretations there are for this particular color? Good, bad, and everything in between.... Thanks for playing in this last-minute challenge.... See ya! Beth

Hey Stanerooski! A belated thank you for playing along in my last-minute challenge. Seems I should maybe spend some time working on some music one of of my own these days, huh???? Anyhoo, this song is certainly right up your alley. LOVE the hook...and you're timely as always. And while it truly is an Important Issue, I appreciate that you put a humorous spin on your "Protest Songs". Great use of the various incarnations of "making" money. So hold on now, let me just take a look here....18,875 posts so far, huh? Hmmmmm, no wonder you do it so well and so quickly. I'm still working on a new bridge for my PET ROCK song for pete's sake!!!! Gentle Hugs Back, Jackie P.S. Off to the docs tomorrow to get a look at the new metal in my foot! Big Day Out Of The House....I am SOOO lucky. Will report back with anything vaguely interesting....

Thanks Beth it's always fun to participate. May I bother you with a question since you are the scholar writer here...if you would be so kind...Where I have the apostrophe in the Chorus 2nd line "love's", I am trying to say/sing "love is" but meterwise want it sung as one syllable there so I printed it as "love's" but should the apostrophe be "love's" or "loves'"??? Thank you Beth How did the foot metal thing go??

Lynn, quickie answer (I didn't want to steal Beth's thunder, though). "Love is" becomes "love's" (apostrophe-s, in other words). Remember, though, it is often better to have more syllables than less. There was a song about that...

Hi Lynn... So, you reckon I'm a "scholar writer", huh? It would certainly be easy to pooh-pooh your assessment and clarify I simply like to be careful with my grammar...but I'm trying to accept compliments with a bit more grace and a little less sarcasm these days, so THANK YOU! Still, I would be remiss, not mentioning that BOBBELINA is the go-to-grammar gal here! As for your question, Joe is absolutely correct. You want to use the "apostrophe s" because it represents the contraction of LOVE and IS (you'd also use it to signify ownership -- for example, if you were talking about Love's Warm Fuzzy Feelings....). Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier... a busy couple of days....but glad Joe was able to answer your questions. So thanks Joe -- I also appreciate your interest in not wanting to step on these poor orthopedically-challenged toes!! Have a good weekend but ciao for now, Beth
