It was a rare and beautiful Nh Spring day.The Chick-A-Dees where mating, The dogs were barking for no reason and a low flying Piper Cub kept buzzing my house.I moved my equipment out onto the deck and recorded this song. http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=7428838&q=lo http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=7428838&q=hi"Safety Glasses And Steel Toed Shoes"Safety glasses and steel-toed shoes Dress code for the working blues Third shift sleep all day Bloodshot eye on the American way Safety glasses and steel-toed shoes The union wants to raise the union dues Sweat drops your clothes a mess Banging out life in 50 ton press In 50 ton press. Tell me what's all the money for The house and the kids and the grocery store Salesman knocking around my front door Telling me boy you need something more Something more You need something more. Dan;
Many people complain about thier jobs until one day bang! Globalization strikes and the job is gone. I see everyday.
I am definetly getting a "real" lead guitar player to listen to this, I know I'm a hack!
Thanks for the listen Steve

Robert Pickens;
It has been a long time, hope all is well. Like I said, I set up on the deck and whatever happened, happened. I kind of like the dogs myself and that "hurricane" sound is actually a student pilot in a piper cub that kept buzzing my house. (probably having some fun with that old guy recording on his deck LOL) That is me on both the guitars but I'm having my friend (a real guitar player) re-do the lead.
Last I heard from Prizm he was in South America making a new start. I wish him all the best he's a good person with an old and sometimes tortured soul.
I'll check out some of your tunes when I get a few minutes.
Great to hear from ya' Steve

Hi,
Love this, fantastic blues I agree with Robert that there is a Santana quality to the lead -no bad thing.
You have a great voice for this type of song.
The lyrics are very emotive and relevent to the times.
One thing I would love to hear you come in harder and more angrily at the line.
'Tell me what's all the money for'
All in all superb stuff, just like the blues should sound.
Andy
Edit - That dog sure has a good sense of timing

It is memorable. Your vocals really pull this off. Smooth easy vocals would sound out of place. Your voice is quite good and enjoyable to listen to. It reminds me of Roy Orbison.

Nice one, Unc. Very convincing. Got to be nothing worse than getting laid off from a job you hate but need.
Love the guitar and vocal - they sound great together.

Hi Uncle Steve,
That solo was wonderful, and those vocals have a grittiness that compliments the atmosphere perfectly. Nothing to nit.
Best wishes,
Mike

Hey Andy; "One thing I would love to hear you come in harder and more angrily at the line. Tell me what's all the money for"
I like that idea! That vocal track was a one time, first take, no rehearsal kind of thing and I believe that I will try your idea next time through. Thanks Steve p.s. - That dog does that ALL THE TIME!
Tom; "Your voice is quite good and enjoyable to listen to. It reminds me of Roy Orbison."
Wow, thanks! I forget about Roy until I hear something of his and say "Man why haven't I paid more attention to this guy" A nice compliment, thanks for the listen.
Steve
Scott; Thanks for listening. It's getting pretty bad where I work. I'm grateful to still have a job but afraid that The good jobs that are leaving the country that will never be back.
Steve
Michael; When I first played that guitar solo back I thought Damn! I've got to get a REAL lead guitar player to do this, but everyone here seems to like it. Just maybe I'll leave it alone?
Thanks Steve
Hey Calvin; Great liftoff picture by the way! That must be a real thrill to see.
I'm glad I helped you start your day! I've been on a bit of a songwriting roll lately. I put away all aspirations, goals and expectations and just started writing the damn things. You guys will get sick of me pretty soon. LOL
Take care Steve

No need to get anyone to re-do the lead, it's fine as is. Not Roy Orbison, it's more like something JJ Cale would do. Any way, it's great from start to finish. You've got real talent.

p.s. - That dog does that ALL THE TIME!
lol that could get old, you need to train it to only work for steak.
That dog needs some union representation.
Andy
Edit - I agree leave the lead as it is. Must have listened to this at least half a dozen times since you posted it.

Uncle Steve,
Very, very nice! The vocal is what sells this one for me. It's a super good lyric and a nice musical composition. But your delivery is about as close to perfect as I would ever anticpate.
I did think the intro was a wee bit long. Other than that, two thumbs up all the way!

Uncle Steve, I love this. I think this has real commercial potential. Alot of "night shifters" can relate to this. The dog barking is really cool. Good to hear you posting new stuff. Happy Spring!!
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Is that dog barking in key? and in time? Kinda works Steve. Dude this is so well recorded. Really do you have a pro studio?
Wish I had a piper cub I could fly over NH.
Excellent lyric Steve. Worked third shift in a couple of plants. Beats you up. I'm still taking Tagamet from it.
This is so real it breaks my heart Steve.
Good work, Tom

Hi Unc,
This is very cool. The vocal is excellent, and guitar is stellar, the background, well that's life creeping in on you! Were those birds chirping at the very end? You have a great sound overall and the topic is so timely, sad but true. Fine offering. Thanks for sharing.

Kevin; I still wince every time I hear myself play lead guitar but I'll go with the opinion of the board. JJ Cale? man now we're talking, I love the guy. Thank you very much. Steve
Joyce; Thanks! Those dogs can be pretty irritating at times but I do like them in this song. They get a cut alright, they eat more than I do! Unc
Andy;
Don't worry about those dogs, they take care of themselves pretty good, (except when the black bears come around) Thanks for listening. Steve
Alan;
WOW! Thanks man. I agree with the intro but I was waiting for the little plane to go over.LOL Steve
Tricia;
Great to hear from you. I did this kind of "off the cuff" with no expectations but now I'm starting to really like it. So far everybody's been positive about it "pimples and all." It must be really, really pretty down in your neck of the woods right about now. Spring in the Deep South, I can just picture it. Thanks again Unc
Tom;
"This is so real it breaks my heart."
Damn! Tom that's so well put, can I use that in some future liner note? I've been reading up on circadian rhythms and how destructive it can be to mess with them. Hope your doing alright. Good to hear from Ya' Steve
Ricki;
Thanks for the compliments brother I appreciate it. Those birds were Chick-a-dees, mating, feeding and fighting at the feeding station. (Hey that sounds like a song in itself!) It's the end of a long Winter and everybody was out having fun! Thanks Steve
